"I'm versatile, my style switches like a hooray for tolerance!.

But not bisexual, I'm an intellectual,

At rap I'm a proffesional, but that's no question yo."

- Nasty Nas

This is why I don't like Nas. He's clever and then he's...nothing. Illmatic is one of the most overrated records there is.

the only solid complaint i've ever heard about that record was that it's too short, but that's weak anyway; i'd rather have a shorter album full of great songs and no filler than a longer album with two or three tracks i couldn't care for. every song on illmatic is great. that album defines hip-hop.

Some of my favorites:

"I broke your fucking mold and threw away the cast" -Pantera

"My soul is wasting beneath my blissful haze" -Down

"How many times must I say I'm not sorry?

And how many ways can I show I don't care?" -Type O Negative

"Why would they tell me to please those that laugh in my face?" -GnR

I'm feeling rough, I'm feeling raw, I'm in the prime of my life.

Let's make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.

I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin, and fuck with the stars.

You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.

We've got the vision, now let's have some fun.

wayne has much better lines than that.

"bitch i'm paid, that's all i gotta say"

"i have more jewels than your jeweler"

"my hoes talk like 'fgsfds' and i just say 'right'"

"i got a dizzy hoe and a clumsy bitch; i swear they always trip and fall right on my dick"

"they cannot see me--they are like stevie"

"flow so sick, make you wanna throw your food up"

other than cassidy, he's the most quotable rapper in the game right now. from his most recent verse:

"fuck what you heard like my dick against your eardrum/swagger so sharp like weezy where you get that spear from?"

fire.

It's too short, with nothing to ultimately proclaim besides a giant ego. He has the facade of intelligence, of something deeper, but his lines don't hold up in the way 2Pac and others' do. He's a clever rapper but even at that Big L and others were better. It's well produced, but that's about the only thing I get from it when I do happen to play it, which is rare because its always such a disappointment.

Another gem from Wayne, if you just consider the gravity of the words for a minute:

"I require what I desire."

haha good shit

and I don't even wanna bring kanye into the mix  I think he had the line of the year.

"fuck a beat up so bad won't nobody get up on it" B)

and a classic:

" if you're having girl problems I feel bad for you son, 'cause I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one"

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade and he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him

til he cried out in his anger and his shame.........

I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains -- The Boxer, Simon and Garfunkel.

" 'Fool!' said I 'you do not know

Silence like a cancer grows' " -- The Sound of Silence, Simon and Garfunkel

"I know no luxury

Of knowing what your eyes read

I know one million ways

To always pick the wrong thing to say" --Bad luck blue eyes goodbye, The Black Crowes

"Saw you early this morning

With your brand new boy and your cadillac

You're gone for something and I know you won't be back

I know you're dying baby

And I know you know it too

Every time I see you

I just don't know what to do" --Slim slow slider, Van Morrison

I can't possibly pick one line from 'Madame Geaprge' by Van Morrison, the whole thing is a masterpiece.

"And Im caught one more time

Up on cyprus avenue

And Im conquered in a car seat

Not a thing that I can do

I may go crazy

Before that mansion on the hill" -- Cyprus Avenue, Van Morrison.

^Cyprus Avenue is about a 15 minute drive from my house ^_^

i love how this guy talks about shit being overrated and then mentions 2pac.

Without bringing Wayne into the equation at all, 2Pac is not overrated. His last three albums were all masterpieces and he was the most important musical figure of his time. No one captured the contradictions of the gangsta lifestyle so perfectly, or connected with his audience so emotionally. As an icon alone he is without compare in Rap, like Elvis or The Beatles.

I love Wayne and I think his approach is really original and important today, but he's not 2Pac.
