Georgy Zhukov
Apparently Americans traveling to Thailand for cheap cars wasn't that uncommon in the 1970's. Pepper was fine in Live and Let Die but the audience was on the same page with Bond when he said "Not you again". Thanks a lot Cubby. The Beach Boys was an attempt to make the audience laugh. Like Lawrence of Arabia in The Spy Who Loved Me. Except at the time it was hilarious. By the 1980's, they didn't know what they were doing. Audience at the time made it clear that newer is better. The 90's they were feeling nostalgic so Goldeneye was made that made Bond relevant again, and 11 years later Casino Royale made him relevant again. It seems they were plagued with making Bond relevant. Moonraker to cash in on the sci fi crazeDie Another Day surf scene for the kids to love.Quantum of Solace because the Bourne films were kicking ass at the box office.Skyfall they just went to the original forumla, updated it and now it is one of the biggest hits in the series. Even fillmmakers aren't confident in their own product they have to make some poor decisions to make better films.
Georgy Zhukov
Now that I think of it, I don't think Goldfinger is that good of a movie. The one scene I love watching is the golf scene, but other than that it isn't the best Bond film. It is one of my favorites, I think it has some great scenes but it doesn't hold a candle to From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale. I think Pussy Galore is a boring Bond girl. Great body, but Tatiana and Domino were far more interesting. Shit even Tiffany Case was more interesting. DieselDaisy
Octopussy was simply silly except for the Faberge egg bit (from Fleming's Property of a Lady). The best Moore is probably FYEO.
Georgy Zhukov
FYEO is my favorite Moore movie. It was funny in the right moments, had great action and his Bond was believable. One of the few times where he wasn't a parody of himself.
Chris1989
Since I watched Skyfall it has been on my to buy list, apparently it's a March release. Seems like such a long way away...

DieselDaisy
For Your Eyes Only (film) is the most Flemingesque of the Moore films. It is essentially a hybrid of two shorts, For Your Eyes Only (the whole female assasin thing) and Risico (the two rival chieftens, Kristatos versus Columbo). The keelhauling sequence is also from Live and Let Die. The whole Greek mountain base is all new of course.
Georgy Zhukov
I loved the rock climbing scene.Roger Moore gets a bad rap for being a "weak Bond" because he is uncomfortable with firing guns, his distaste for the increasing violence in the films and some of his fight scenes were poorly choreographed filmed. But his Bond probably has more cold blooded kills than any other. The fight scene involving the bellydancer in The Man with the Golden Gun was pretty brutal. Slamming a guys head into a wall isn't what I call a clean fight. It is nice to hear some Roger Moore praise. Back in high school my friends would talk about their favorite James Bond and they were jerking over Sean Connery and I am like "What about Roger Moore?" and they gave me shit for it. This was before Casino Royale came out. Edited December 2, 2012 by Georgy Zhukov
Georgy Zhukov
I'd like to see Tom Hooper direct the next Bond film. Unless they can get Sam Mendes or Martin Campbell again.Anyone noticed how awful some of Campbell's films are? James Bond
I think Pussy Galore is a boring Bond girl. Great body, but Tatiana and Domino were far more interesting. Shit even Tiffany Case was more interesting. While the plot of the book is improved on screen, Pussy is not. She's more interesting in the book. It's sort of implied that she's a lesbian in the movie, but it was rather played down, probably figuring the name was risqué enough for the time period. Outside of her iconic introduction (mostly thanks to Connery's "I must be dreaming" line), you really don't find out all that much about her, other than that she does what she does for money. Unless the audience realizes she's a lesbian, the seduction in the barn by Bond is almost meaningless. Sure, you could argue his charm wins her over, but in the book it's made clear that she was a lesbian because she had yet to find a "real man" or whatever. Bond satisfies that, seduces her, and thus she agrees to turn against Goldfinger. Much of that is lost on film. She acts more like Bond's older sister.Honestly, I've never got the love for For Your Eyes Only. It's okay, but I find it kind of dull and not very exciting. It's Roger's most down to earth, but that doesn't necessarily make it his best. I think Octopussy is much more fun as a movie. I really don't find it that silly other than the obvious clown thing and a couple lame moments here or there (the tennis jokes mainly).I agree Georgy, most of Campbell's directorial work outside of Bond has been pretty lackluster. Jackie Moon
The Tarzan yell never bothered me. It's not as bad as them ruining one of the greatest car stunts of all time (the spiral in The Man With The Golden Gun) with a slide whistle and Sheriff Pepper who shouldn't have even been in the film, or as Georgy said, the Beach Boys scene in A View To A Kill.that was simultaneously the best and the worst.that is my favorite 70/s bond Edited December 2, 2012 by Jackie Moon

Georgy Zhukov
Octopussy was a lot of fun but much of that is owed to For Your Eyes Only. If Octopussy followed Moonraker it would be a different story. For Your Eyes Only showed Moore as a respectable Bond.
DieselDaisy
I cannot agree. Octopussy is just silly, Moore as a clown, the Tarzan sequence. True, For Your Eyes Only is no masterpiece - no, From Russia with Love - but it had good intentions, i.e. a more Flemingian Bond for Moore. The storyline twists (the Risico storyline) a la Fleming and the action is done very well. I like it. Octopussy is, well a bit pants really. As I said, I like the Faberge egg sequence but then it goes to India and you get all those jokes involving Indian culture (Moore duking around in a snakefight). I do laugh at one , rather xenaphobic line, which they would not get away with today: Moore gives his Indian counterpart some of his winnings from a Poker game and says, ''it will keep you in curry for awhile.'' It is almost, cuddly, xenaphobia. Racism which reminds one of your granddad.
st0n3r
It's just a joke, not racism.
DieselDaisy
You are correct but you wouldn't get away with it now. The PC lobby would have your bollocks.
Georgy Zhukov
As much as I hate to use the phrase, Octopussy was a sign of the times. You could get away with a lot of shit in the 80's. India was a lot poorer and backwards in 1983 than they are today.
ADPT
I went back and watched the Dalton Bonds recently. They really deserve more credit, I forgot how cold Dalton was at times in Licence to Kill."Compliments of Sharkey". Georgy Zhukov
His Bond was bad ass in Licence to Kill. He kept coming like the Terminator.
James Bond
I don't think the curry line is as bad as "Fetch my shoes" which Bond says to Quarrel in Dr. No. Bond wasn't joking there. Probably was never intended to sound racist, but the word choice and how Bond says it would give the PC people a heart attack today.Updated Skyfall totals:Domestic: $246,029,000Foreign: $623,000,000Worldwide: $869,029,
Georgy Zhukov
Went through a 52% drop and ended its run in 63 theaters. Still pretty good for a spy film.Behind Live and Let Die for inflation. Yeah, I was put off by that. Also the black dude always dies first.Bond will always have a problem with feminists. Especially in Skyfall. But no one cares about them
James Bond
Not bad, as long as the existing markets push it to $900 million (which isn't unrealistic) there's still a good chance it'll hit $1 billion. I'm happy as long as it passes Live and Let Die (which it will), since it still makes it the most successful Bond since Connery's prime. It's funny how Twilight smoked it but Twilight's drop has been much more and this past weekend it was only ahead by a hair.I think of how many women Connery slapped around. That would never get by today.
Crazyman
I think of how many women Connery slapped around. That would never get by today. There's no way that would get by today. I remember an interview in Playboy that came out around the time of Thunderball and he mentions that it's ok to hit a woman as long as she provokes it...I'm pretty sure there's a clip on youtube where Barbra Walters calls him out on it like 20 years later. Also I'm absolutely shocked LALD did that well...must've been the fact that there was a new Bond. I'm sure having the best song in the series also helped....
