Rap is a subgenre of rock.

Poor Donna Summer. How many times has she made the ballot? I know she was on last year.

rap is its own genre

Since when has the R 'N' R Hall of Fame's yearly list of nominees consisted entirely of rock bands/artists? I swear, it's the same fucking deal every year with you retards - some rapper or soul singer gets nominated and the bitching and crying that they aren't "rock" enough ensues. Here's a history lesson: in the first year that they held the fucking thing, 1986, three out of ten artists were not what you would consider "rock musicians". That's 26 years of you people not understanding that the Hall of Fame doesn't solely induct/nominate rock musicians.

As is metal, but that doesn't mean they're not both rock, too.

metal isnt its own genre its a sub genre of rock.

rap and rock have a common ancestery but they branched out in the 1970's.

as for lithium if they are going to induct non rock bands and musicians and ignore dozens of actual rock legends then they should change the name of the institution

I would assume that's the key for the RNRHOF. It doesn't matter that they branched out; they're all still in the same family.

Ignoring the fact that the idea of a 'Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame' is just plain silly - the HOF has never really been about exclusively Rock acts and encompasses anyone with some sort of link to the genre. Early inductions are dominated by R&B and soul legends like James Brown, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye who basically paved the way for Rock n' Roll and Hip Hop. You could argue that Public Enemy and N.W.A have much more in common with these artists than the likes of Rush or Kraftwerk. Not to mention the G-Funk style of N.W.A was built on Parliament Funkadelic samples - another HOF inductee.

Having said that it's primarily about which names will sell the most tickets at the dinner and I'm inclined to agree with the Sex Pistols assessment that it is a "piss stain."
