Axl is number 11 on this list. Does he deserve it and who else should and shouldn't be here?

Huge fan

To me it will always be:

1. Steven Tyler

2. Axl Rose

3. Freddy Mercury

4. Robert Plant

5. David Lee Roth

And the rest is history! In terms of singing.

In terms of showmanship then i would have to put David Lee Roth in the first place as he's the real deal and Tyler at 2nd place.

Umm, the Rage Against the Machine vocalist is a monster, not to mention the real deal in terms of what he was doing with his band. Did you know he took part in violent protests? He wasn't just some asshole musician talking about changing the world. He was living his songs.

But yeah, metal? Freddie Mercury? Axl could have existed as a metal singer, but he's sooooooooo much more than that. He literally has the best range out of anyone I've heard. And Robert Plant? Robert has a range, I can't say he ever really explored it though. He's just a monster in the highs and can pull of Elvis decently

Robert wasn't even a singer in that sense...he was just up there doing what he did and had a band that did what they did and it fit together magically somehow. Robert would have been shit in most other bands, trying to sing the way he was singing, I mean.

When your natural singing voice is a baritone and you're successfully pulling off Jungle and Sweet Child, not to mention Prostitute and Twat, then you can claim range.

With a couple more albums he could have made the top 3!

Quality defines greatness, not quantity. ;)

Does it though?

So if Axl only released one song in his career, whatever song you think his is best overall work..........would you put in on the list as the best singer of all time?

I get what you are saying, I really do. But at the end of a career, if one band has 10 great albums of work and one band has 4 great albums....don't you give the nod to the guy with more quality work?

You know I'm a huge Axl fan. There is no doubt in my mind that if Axl had wanted/chosen to put in the work/effort, GnR would have went down as the greatest rock band of all time. In every poll. He would have always been voted the number one singer of all time, and GnR would dominate the greatest band of all time polls.

Currently Led Zep usually finishes on top of the polls/charts that people make. I have no doubt that if GnR had put out albums in 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010 and this year, people would not just mention GnR with the greats, but they would put them way ahead of Zep, Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, etc.

But instead, Axl chose to go a different route - not releasing music for his fans - and you have a band that has put out one album of original material in the past 20 years.

David Lee Roth is a performer not a singer. He's a horrible singer.

Zach is a rapper. Or a street poet, not a metal singer or a rock singer.

Doesn't mean he sucks. Hes great for what RAtM does.

The link said "100 best metal vocalists".

Which means Axl shouldn't even be on it. Guns n' Roses was never metal.

The same can be said for a few other artists on there. I mean Freddie Mercury? Steven Tyler? Mick Jagger? How in the world are any of them "mnetal vocalists"?

Dio and Rob Halford are the best "heavy metal" singers, that's a no brainer.

I don't think its fair to judge Korn and NIN against Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin...its just dumb.

Ozzy would have to be one of the greatest hard rock frontmen, but not a technically great singer (though he did have his moments back in the day)
