smoking guns Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 The Lane Staley, Eddie Vedder, Scott Stapp "yarling" or whatever they call it? The Errrrr type vocals? I love the vocals on that song, but it does have some errrr to it... I think KOHD also had an effect on those guys..
dalsh327 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Axl studied the vocal stylings of David Clayton-Thomas of Blood Sweat and Tears for months on end. 1
Tyler Drama Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Definitely not.. Those guys all sound like they sing with a mouth full of peanut butter and marbles. 1
smoking guns Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Brownstone has a lil bit of that errrrr to it.
RussTCB Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Brownstone has a lil bit of that errrrr to it.Especially live. The more Axl sings it live, the more he adds a drawl to it. I've heard bootlegs where he almost makes whole phrases into one word lol. "Thatolmanhesarealmothafuckagonnakickemondowntheline-e-ine-e-ine"
Amish Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 First, "yarling" sucks. I've never heard it called that, but it sucks. Second, Brownstone has nothing even resembling "yarling" in it.Third, most of Axl's rasp on Illusions has something vaguely similar to "yarling" but it's just the side effect of singing that way and it's completely acceptable and awesome.Eddie and the like outright sing in a stupid peanut butter and marbles voice on purpose and it's disgusting.
smoking guns Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 When Axl does it, it is badass. But what they do is a much more exaggerated version of it.
Black Sabbath Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Has Axl or anyone else in the band ever been asked about the pause between "A waste of my ... time". The song swears anyway, and we all know how he performs it live, so I've always wondered why they decided to do the studio version that way.

Ant Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) I bet Layne was vocally inspired by Axl.It was originaly Alice n' Chains. Also, I think Eddie sounds legit doing it. It's really suited to his voice.... it's all the post-grunge people who came after and aped it / exaggerated it that sucked... in my opinion . I love on Portlandia anytime they cut to a scene in Seattle they signal it by some faint "yarling" in the background. Edited October 18, 2014 by Ant
RandallFlagg Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) AH GET URP ARAHN SEVAHN, GET OUTTA BED AROUN' NAHN, WE GOAN STEHG ABOU'ELEVAHNJEREMY SPAWKKUUHHHHNNNNN CLURZZZ TERDEEEEEHHHIt's a conspiracy. Maybe... maybe they're just both weird ass vocalists. Edited October 18, 2014 by RandallFlagg
smoking guns Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Sometimes he does it during Night Train and some phrases in Patience even. "But I can't speed up the time"....
smoking guns Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 5:19 mark of this clip... Axl Yarling.
