Popular Post ludurigan
‘Hey man, this is Slash. We listened to you next door, always loved your guitar. Izzy’s gone, would you play with us?’” Didnt know about this one. Marc Ford (Black Crowes, etc) tells LA TIMES about the morning Slash asked him to join GNR in 1991 after Izzy left From the LA TIMES: The Monday after Marc Ford was asked to join The Black Crowes in late 1991, he was surprised to hear from Slash. The two guitarists had never spoken, but Ford’s pre-Crowes band, Burning Tree, had recently practiced at a Mates Rehearsal Studios space next to Guns N’ Roses, who had the big room at Mates’ original location on Cleon Avenue in North Hollywood. “Like 10:30 in the morning I get this call: ‘Hey man, this is Slash,’” Ford recalls now. “'We listened to you next door, always loved your guitar. Izzy’s gone, would you play with us?’” FULL STORY (includes a bit more GNR related tales and also a bit about the Ford/Izzy and the Ju Ju Hounds connection) here = http://www.laweekly.com/music/the-black-crowes-marc-ford-and-rich-robinson-are-together-again-in-the-magpie-salute-8628286 === edit: just googled and found this from la times november 16, 1991! http://articles.latimes.com/1991-11-16/entertainment/ca-1563_1_black-crowe Edited September 12, 2017 by ludurigan 4 1
Nikki_Sixx
Great find, thanks for sharing ! I didn't know Ford played on 'Somebody Knockin', funny how I'd rather read about Izzy without GNR, than GNR without Izzy ...
MYWIFEMYLIFE
GNR and members are very talented in finding the best hired guns, yes I like Ashba too
appetite4illusions
At the time, he probably would have been an appropriate foil for Izzy. He does have a very similar loose style of rhythm playing that brings to mind the stones. But the Crowes were HUGE when Slash asked him to jump ship. He would have just been a paycheck player in Guns. In retrospect, i'm sure he made the right choice.
soon
Its strange to me that Slash asked a lead player in Marc Ford to join Guns (Gliby calls himself one too, but he's more a rhythm guy to me). And Slash also invited Fortus who can shred to play with his solo stuff, apparently. Its strange because thats what Axl was envisioning too. Such similar hopes for the guitar future of GNR. So close! Side note: that new magpie salute track is pretty banging' Edited September 12, 2017 by soon
moreblack
Ford is an awesome lead player. I wouldn't want him to just play rhythm.

Sunset Gardner
could've worked, they could've had their "mick Taylor" period with either him or gilby. but maybe not, maybe the song quality would've been shit without the master izzy stradlin writing and filtering. I think around the time Lion came out - as much as I enjoyed the album - I was let down with some of the attitude from the Chris and tapped out on the whole scene. Ill check that out, thanks!
