VIDEOGAME Thread...

Anyone play the new Amazing Spider-Man game yet? I want to get it, but I don't know if I want to spend $50 on it.

Also, what about Twisted Metal? Would someone recommend it for $20? I really enjoyed the old ones for PS1 and PS2.

For $20 the Twisted Metal PS3 game is very much worth it. It wasn't worth the $60 it cost when it came out. Single player is a total cop-out, but if you like TM, it's still fun.

Yep. I also realized that I'm old enough to play that game with the passion I used to when I was in high school. :(

Day Z will become a standalone game

I've been looking for a reason to upgrade my hardware. Everything I've seen about the mod looks brilliant. Fascinating style of game play (even if the average life span is 45 minutes), and is probably the most impressive zombie/post-apocalyptic games out there.

Other than the massive hacker problems the game is very fun.

I hope they make it into an MMO-ish environment with a few safezones but otherwise do what you wish.

Add in a good economy system and we've got ourselves the best game ever.

I like how they are doing the Minecraft model of you being able to pay for it while its in Alpha and get all the updates for the rest of the game's lifespan.

Yeah that too, I might have out grown the game a little, but it was still a cop-out for single player. They were pretty open about that, it was designed with no single player and Sony was like "WTF?" so they threw one in.

will be getting max payne 3 for my birthday in 2 weeks time really looking forward to it

If you enjoyed the first two you'll love it. I haven't had much time to game this week but I made it to the second disc last night. The story makes it very addicting.

Second disc?? How big is this game?

There's somewhere around 3 and a half hours of cutscenes in the game, all impressively animated. It's like a movie within the game. Then each chapter takes around an hour to an hour and a half to complete. The first couple chapters don't take as long but I make sure to explore everywhere to collect all the pick-ups. There's fourteen total in the game. I'm sure it's the cutscenes that take up most of the space but I was shocked to open the game and see two discs. LA Noire was the same way for probably the same reason, although I never played it other than at a friends.

I loved it. Parts of it were absolutely mental. Also kudos for an escort mission without a suicidal escortee. Fantastic soundtrack too.

So, anyone else buy Counter Strike: Global Offensive? Thoughts?

I have, I've been a diehard CS player for 13 years now. I haven't had a lot of playtime on it yet, been so busy with work and other things. But I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. Its still running on the outdated source engine and only looks marginally better than CS:S. Granted the maps are far more detailed, but still doesnt look like a brand new FPS. The weapon models actually look far worse. They changed all the gun and voice command sounds which, to me, is utter blasphemy. The weapon models look like they were cut out from a comic book and pasted in game. They removed some weapons including the MP5. I believe also the USP is gone and replaced by the five-seven as the default CT handgun. Also, two of my biggest gripes. No silencer on M4 and the AK-47 gun sound is changed. Severely angered by that =/.

A few good things, map changes are nice and feel more fluid than before. Some interesting new choke points and paths that make for interesting rounds. New weapons including a saw'ed off shotgun for Ts, a Lethal taser for CTS(might be fore Ts also,), incendiary grenades, "decoy" grenade which simulates weapon fire wherever you throw it and some other SMGs including one with a 64 round clip which is nice.

All in all its a decent game but a few changes were unnecessary and took away from that classic CS feel which to me is sacrosanct. I think with future updates and maybe some 3rd party mods I can enjoy it fully, or maybe I just need more time to adjust to it ;), either way for $13 bucks you cant beat it. I'd still take this game over COD ANY day of the week.

Good man ;) Only just bought it myself - but it feels like an incomplete game thus far. Not sure if the movement of players is right currently...

But, the more I play, the more I enjoy aspects - will be interesting to get used to it in time. We'll wait and see I guess! :)

I bought The Last Story a few days ago and beat it. Awesome game.

The combat system was incredibly fun. It's a real-time action RPG and the combat system is pretty simple to master. The game as a whole was actually pretty damn easy, but I thought the battles were fun enough regardless that I didn't mind much. Music was awesome. Looks fantastic, especially for a Wii game. I thought all of the protagonists were very enjoyable characters. Leveling system was very simple, and the most convenient I've ever seen. Characters are constantly jumping in and out of your party depending on where you are in the story, so it's nice that a very under-leveled character can be up to par without an absurd amount of grinding. Grinding is pretty much non-existent in the game. The weapons system was also pretty simple yet effective. Same with the equipment, though equipment isn't as important as your weapon in this game.

Really, the only problem I had with the game was some of the story elements. I think the story should've focused on the political intrigue and the romance between the two main characters. May have been the only romance in a video game I've seen that hasn't been downright bad. It's hardly a classic, but it was enjoyable enough and wasn't gag worthy like most video game romances. But yeah, the story did those two elements very well. It was the more fantastical "save the world!" side of the story that fell flat and the antagonists left a lot to be desired. Outside of that, though, it was a great game and a definite recommendation.

almost completed sleeping dogs

10/10 what an excellent and refreshing game

If I recall correctly it started off as True Crime: Hong Kong, I have heard very good things about it and am seriously considering picking it up.

I've heard good things myself also!

Won't pick it up though - too many games to play!

Correct. Activision owned the True Crime franchise but after the lukewarm reception to True Crime: New York City they weren't that eager to focus on the next game (Hong Kong) and along with the constant delays with getting a third game on the go, they canceled it and sold it to Square Enix who dropped the True Crime name (I don't think they purchased the name itself).

Just started a new save file on Resident Evil 4. Boss game.

One of the best ever. Which version are you playing?

At the moment I'm playing the PS2 version, I found it dirt cheap the other day. I've played the GameCube version in the past, so far it seems pretty much the same. I love the Resident Evil series and I thought number 4 was a good action twist.

If you haven't played it before and have a Wii, you should try playing it there. That's the best version, imo, the Wii remote really improves the gameplay.

Use your Delusion: Bioshock Infinite is out February 26th, according to Wikipedia. It looks phenomenal.
