I figured it would be a good idea to create a single thread where anyone can post stupid news stories. Whether they be accidents, coincidences, or criminals who may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, post stupid news articles here!

Man put's 9/11 dispatcher on hold to make drug deal.

CLEVELAND — Police in Cleveland say a man called 911 because he felt he was in danger _ then asked the dispatcher to hold on while he made a drug deal. Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said Tuesday that Alejandro Melendez was arrested after the call and was charged with possessing cocaine.
Police said Melendez called 911 late Saturday and reported that two men with guns were watching him.
Police records show he hung up, so the dispatcher called back.
Melendez answered and asked the dispatcher to hold on, but the dispatcher could still hear what was being said.
A voice can be heard on the recording of the call saying: "What you need? A 10-pack? You need a 10-pack? All right." Police say "10-pack" is slang for a bundle of heroin.
The dispatcher called police, who found Melendez at the location he gave, had the dispatcher call his cell phone again, and said they found cocaine in his trousers.
There was no immediate indication Tuesday if Melendez, 20, had an attorney to speak for him

DUBLIN (AP) — Dublin's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has become a social media phenomenon after being caught on video fighting a man who allegedly tried to steal his money.

The nearly three-minute confrontation spread quickly from a witness' Facebook page to Irish newspapers and soon topped the country's YouTube page.

The man who shot the video, Robert Bolster, says the altercation started beside Dublin's main pedestrian shopping district after the man tried to steal Spider-Man's cash proceeds from a day's work posing for photos.

Tuesday's footage shows the man punch Spider-Man, one of Dublin's most visible street performers, at least twice in the side of the head before Spider-Man trips him, pushes him to the pavement and repeatedly blocks him from fleeing.

Police arrested both men, who were released pending further inquiries.

Wikimedia, the non-profit organisation behind Wikipedia, has refused a photographer’s repeated requests to stop distributing his most famous shot for free – because a monkey pressed the shutter button and should own the copyright

A little different than the things you guys have been posting, but I fucking hate articles like this:

http://articles.latimes.com/2014/jan/29/science/la-sci-sn-childhood-obesity-20140129

"Children who are overweight in kindergarten have four times the risk of becoming obese by eighth grade, researchers reported Wednesday..."

No fucking shit! If someone is already overweight, they are more likely to be overweight later in time than someone who is not already overweight! Spend the research money finding out something not obvious!

Policeman caught taking selfie as man attempted suicide on Istanbul bridge

n_71154_1.jpg

A man committed suicide in the morning hours of Sept. 1 in Istanbul, jumping into the waters of the Bosphorus Strait from the Bosphorus Bridge. However, the tragedy has been overshadowed by controversy after a police officer was photographed taking a selfie while police teams were trying to talk the man down in the background.

After three hours atop the bridge, the man jumped at 9.35 a.m., and his body was found soon after by naval police, Radyo Trafik reported, citing official sources.

Sadrettin Şaşkın, 35, the victim, was alive when he was pulled out of the strait at the Ortaköy pier under the bridge, but could not be saved despite efforts, according to officials.

This was his third suicide attempt, sources said, adding he was suffering some family problems and a financial bottleneck.

Meanwhile, an administrative investigation has immediately been launched by the Police Department into the officer who took the selfie at the scene of the suicide, daily Hürriyet has reported. The photo also drew a large reaction on social media, as the officer was accused of behaving in an insensitive manner.
