I used to be a receptionist at Gala Bingo. One old man would slip me toffees over the counter. I'd stay late at night to accommodate a couple who had been banned from other branches. There was a pair of sisters who would turn up every Saturday without fail. It was quite obvious that they lived together, but they still seemed unusually close. I don't remember them leaving each other's side. Once I was in A&E and they were both there too, they recognised me and said hello. They then both went to see the nurse as a pair. It was a great job to have as a student. The hours were long, so I'd take home over £100 in a weekend, my main responsibility was signing people up to the Gala Bingo empire, smiling lots and just looking generally alert when the customers came down for their cig break halfway through a game. When the game was in play, I was left on my own, so got through lots of reading. They looked after me- the company would always pay for a taxi home at night time, and I got a great discount on food.

That's all I can contribute to this thread.

I used to work for a chemical company in Hull that was next door to a Mecca bingo. I used to leave site for my lunch as they were all descending on the place. All I remember of it is one guy with a really bad comb over and a nagging feeling that most of my taxes were getting pissed up the wall not a hundred yards from where I was earning them.

 Most bingo clubs do offer free games midweek, so I'd assume those who were really hard up would go then. But it is very much a pastime of the working classes, with the odd tweed-wearing posher sorts. One couple were going on a holiday to London, and asked me to locate a branch which they could frequent while in one of the world's most culturally interesting cities. "Near Westminster?" they hoped. "The nearest I can do for you is Enfield, love".

I've never actually played bingo, but it seems like a very good value way to spend a few hours. Cheep food and booze, having a nice comfy sit down with your mates, and the occasional cash win which you won't have to declare at the Job Centre.

bingo brings back memories of my beloved Grandma! when we'd visit and it was bingo night she'd let me come along. she'd get all gussied up. hair done, makeup on, wearing her "best" dress and tons of glitzy sparkly jewelry ( think it's where i got the love of it. ) i don't think i ever got a bingo but Grandma did a lot! miss her so much...

as for me and gambling noooo thank you. in a town filled with casinos, slot machines in gas stations as well as grocery stores i do NOT gamble. i'm not lucky enough. tooe it's akin to just handing them my money and not bothering to play! although i have a theory if i ever put a bunch of money of a team i hate ( like The Patriots ) they'd lose :P might be worth it ;)

Wish i could win a few quid now, got my heart proper set on getting a Rolex Submariner.  I had a run in 2011/12 betting on the football where i couldn't stop making money.  I must've reached a couple three grand about 10 times...most i ever made was 15,000 til i spunked the lot on City vs West Brom n lost, bright boy that i am.  I want that fuckin' Submariner though.  I could just save up for a few months but fuck that, i want it NOW!

Got my Macbook and my Breitling off of gambling :D

Len with a Rolly?! Will it help you sell more houses?

Nah, i just have a thing about class watches.  Appreciation of craftsmanship and heritage and all that y'know?  I've already got a Breitling, thats on a par with Rolex.  I'm the same with posh clothes.  A more cynical observer might call it the curse of the working class, aspirational mentality, thinking clothes and watches make you someone.

The Pistols had this thing called talent though   Also, dunno where this idea came from that they were anti-making-some-dough but its certainly not something anyone in the band ever espoused, quite the opposite actually.

Chucking it on single bets was what got me up to 15,000   I tell ya when it was, it was when we sold Van Persie to United and he was scoring for fun, that whole season i was sticking large amounts on different Real, Barca, United and City games and i fuckin' couldn't lose...until i lost   Got a lot of shopping done that season, fuckin' macbook and phone and all sorts of fuckin' different pairs of trainers and a crackin' watch and some nice clothes.

I did the same thing on a much smaller scale. I noticed I had about 3 quid in my ladbrokes account. I just put it on a few teams who were already 2-0 up and won about 25p. But then i thought if I just keep doing that constantly and chipping away betting on things like Celtic to win and keep the mindset that it doesn't really matter how much it returns just very slowly going up.

Because it's possible to bet on anything now online at any time of the day I was just putting loads and loads of bets on anything and everything volleyball, Mexican women's football, ice hockey just look at the odds and stick it on the dead cert favorite 1-25 shot  chuck some accumulators in aswell.

Within just over a week I'd turned the 3 quid into about £90 odd and it just goes up quicker £90 on to win a fiver and shit like that.

Then i lost the fucking lot on a basketball game so I'm starting again now.
