  1. Maybe someone remembers the details better than I, but I do recall that Rod and Slash had a major falling out. I think Rod was strung on on drugs and did some shit or something? Haha... Slash said he ended up hating that band though in his book I'm pretty sure (for personal not musical reasons).

For what it's worth I think Slash is much more interesting channeling his soulful side (BB King, Rod, James Brown collabs) than a lot of his metal projects.

  2. I think VR did as much as any new GNR record would have done. They won a grammy, had two hit singles (one crossover), did the promo circuit, had a really successful tour.

Plus bands like the Strokes and the White Stripes were big around that time.

Rock's problems are and were beyond any late era GNR record.

  3. Why does everyone keep saying that people will pay for tickets and so nothing else matters?

If Slash and Axl come to town I'm gonna go for sure.... doesn't negate any of the concerns / critiques of the current situation. Coachella was gonna sell out with or without GNR. It's not about ticket sales, it's about reminding the world why they were briefly the biggest band in the world and frankly what rock n' roll as a genre should look like nowadays.

Optimism is cool but so is some frank discussion! It's all ultimately coming from a place of love for the band. We want them to fucking succeed on every level. They're our musical heroes! I think on some level the hope is demand for Izz and Steven among the fanbase, for example, falls on the right ears. Might be complete fantasy but who knows. Optimism of a different stripe :D.

  4. You can rehearse all you want in the house but it doesn't build up the same energy and stamina that you'd get being in live room and moving around whilst singing.

I think he needs to stop moving around. Stand still like Myles Kennedy or Adele. Would help his singing if he did that even if it hurts his stage presence.

I agree. Command the stage like Liam Gallagher does. Let the band do the moving. Without the rasp the songs have no venom. Without venom they're just a bunch of old garter snakes, man. Flaccid and sad in the Coachella sun.

  5. People are insulting him in the context of his place in GNR! I'm sure Pitman is a nice guy with great stories.

He's also superfluous to the band and potentially detrimental to the songs... why would that be cause of celebration? I'm nice and I have a family but if Axl put me on that stage I wouldn't blame fans for telling me to fuck off :).

This is the reunion. THIS IS IT! 25 or whatever years in the making. There won't be a second one. Can't blame people for being passionate and opinionated. I don't want my musical heroes (and I love em all!) to be the laughing stock of fucking Coachella!

  6. Honestly it was kind of fun in 2002-2006. The "Freak Show" nugnr was at least mysterious and weird as fuck... and 2006 had Axl in really top form physically and fan service wise via the Eddie trunk interview.... but the Ashba/Vegas/Golden Gods/Bridge School/yellow rain coat era was a total nightmare come to life. Where do we go... where do we go now?? Coachella could honestly go 1000 different ways.

  7. Am I the only one who thinks it's a good thing Axl is not doing Kimmel? Get in shape.... get in the fucking zone... maybe pen some new tunes... and then emerge in April and unleash the beast.

Nobody wants to hear a bunch of "it's gonna be this and that"... just put it on the table in April and let the performance do the talking.

A performance on Kimmel's stage would have been even worse... a tiny sea of non-fans with their cells phones and no energy to feed off of. Thank god....

Fans are 'assuming' that he isnt doing Kimmel coz of some weight jokes. Really? If he was really that sensitive he wouldnt have been at this weight.

From the track record of 20 years of GNR... I think there will be no reunion or interviews or updates or album.

If he emerges/unleashes then we'll see.

For the mainstream it was a big thing. But like I said... with GNR expect the unexpected and by unexpected I mean worse. If anything better than worse happens... then its great.

I'm not trying to frame it like he's slinking away from Kimmel 'cause he's embarrassed about being overweight. That said, it is a lot easier to be "soft" and below your full potential physically and performance-wise when you're holed up in Malibu and nobody but your surrogate mom is seeing you.

When you're signed up contractually to perform for 100,000 people, your legacy in on the line and your bandmates are sober, way more proficient than your last go-around with them and they're hungry as fuck... I figure it does light a fire under your ass.

I think him and whoever is helping them now management wise probably recognized Axl and reunited a GNR were not ready for primetime.... or maybe it was something totally different haha. Just speculating.
