  1. I actually think Fortus is a cool choice . I say that as someone who has had zero interest in Chidem and Nugnr since pretty much the beginning.

I think Fortus would actually have more creative clout due to his relationship with Axl and might present some cool opportunities for Slash to up his game and put new spins on things. Fortus has lead chops -- we could get like a Richards/Wood thing. We don't actually want UYI2.0, do we? It'll just be shittier. Gilby will just be low in the mix and the same old thing.

But for some reason having Frank really doesn't jive with me... 3 original members taking a bow at the end... I dunno... I feel like four is the magic number. I want Duff and Steven powering this engine, but Matt is a great runner up.

Listening to Slash's drummer in the Conspirators.... he's a great drummer, absolutely no question... but the songs didn't FEEL like GNR to me.... its an intangible thing.... like they didn't feel like GNR the way even VR covers with Matt felt like GNR. It was hollow and I feel like Frank will be the same. VR Brownstone / It's So Easy were still fucking monsters.

  2. The Vancouver show! I was coming home from thanksgiving dinner (Canadian) and passed by the Queen E theatre where they were playing tonight. I decided months ago I was gonna skip this one but had a change of heart and decided to try my luck at 9:15 - Slash had been playing for 15mins already! Turned out the box office was closed! Shitty.

Then out of nowhere a scalper gives me a ticket for free! What a sweet show! The sound was phenomenal. His tone during the second half of Anastasia was amazing.... Civil War was rockin.... It's funny how SCOM and Paradise City are my least favorite songs in the set these days.

  3. Adler says some people told him that the band (Axl, Slash and Duff) are already rehearsing with Matt??????

    Minute. 1.35

I have no proof, but I get the sense Steven is surrounded by hangers on and people praying on his insecurities.

If there is a reunion, I would like to think the rest of the band will just filter through the chaff and recognize Adler as a worthy component.

  4. Even as a metaphor I don't get what he's ultimately saying, haha.

Like a political body makes a political statement, a band makes a statement with an album....sure... but what was Maiden "about" in 88? What did their album(s) represent? Just being an old dinosaur band? An established act? Just a difference of genre (rock vs metal)? Motivated by something other than music?

Maybe it was just off the cuff and he wanted to sound rebellious... i dunno.... who cares haha....

  5. I kind of hate the production on the song... I feel like it could have had a lot more balls on the studio version.

But I love the song! So menacing and cool... literally a type of rock music that has not been written in a very long time since. Also very fun to play on the geetar.... gotta work on that solo...

It's intensely Axl dependant, as well. When Slash covers it with Myles it just has no where near the same impact. If you don't inject the venom it just drones on.

  6. I don't see why you'd fire Fortus for Gilby, if Fortus still wants to be involved. I like Gilby for sure but if it's not an Appetite reunion then Richard has probably just as much right to be there as Gilby. I say this as a guy with pretty much no love for "nu-gnr" haha. Gilby never recorded anything of note and Axl couldn't write with him so....

Axl needs someone he's close with to bring into the band dynamic so he's not isolated. If not Izzy then maybe someone he's worked beside for a while (Fortus). If the reunion ends up being Velvet Revolver + Axl then it won't last. Gotta be a good mesh, a good melding... mix :).... GNR, baby.

  7. Hey guys,

Did you guys happen to catch the vids of this show, basically Illusions GNR sans-Axl (Gilby, Matt, Slash, Duff, Myles), on Youtube??

Slash is wicked in these vids with the precision! The way he caps off that brownstone solo at 1:50... or the outro solo in ISE... sick! Him and Myles seemed out of Steam at some of the recent festival shows I watched, but this night looked amazing!

  8. I definitely think it's just accumulated fatigue. That said, Myle's idea of being a frontman does involve a lot of audience participation (even though I feel like it always falls flat, haha).

Myles is probably one of the only guys around with the range required that also knows how to maintain his voice for such a crazy pace of touring. I feel like it results in a lot of timid and safe vocal performances -- a feeling of going through the motions. I get it though, because that's how bands make money now. If Myles did an Axl circa 1991 he'd probably end his career by the spring of next year.

If you listen to early Alter Bridge stuff you can hear a lot of cool vocal shit going on...

Not the best song but I wish he'd bring some of that growl/rasp to the Slash stuff nowadays.
