At the time I think we didn't know that history was being written, but now I can appreciate it.

Speak for yourself. I knew. ;) That's why, after already having seen them twice, I jumped on a plane to London in a last minute decsision the morning of the gig to go see them a third time and then flew back home the next morning. Didn't even take a jacket with me.

It certainly is cut throat and I remember seeing a music doco on Netflix about hired guns and how the job can be gone all of a sudden, like Pitman for instance.

Well. When you're a douche, the job can be gone regardless of being a musician or not. He's only got himself to blame. And even non musicians could/would have lost their jobs for that.

Susan said on the last podcast that this cover will be included on the next record.

 Let's hope Elton doesn't die before they go on tour again.

Edit: I mean, he also shouldn't die whilst they are on tour. Under no circumstances do I want that cover.

I disagree with this. You even say it yourself: Axl calls the shot. Make up your mind, who is to blame, the one calling the shots or the one tasked to do whatever the former says?

To be a bit more specific:

    - Poor ticket sales is only a problem if the band loses money from the touring. If they do indeed lose money, then whoever detailed the tour and decided on venues and pricing is to blame. If the manager is charged to oversee this, then yes, the manager must take responsibility for that. But we don't know that, do we? We don't know if they lose money on touring and who has been charged to plan the tours nor approve of said plans. Most likely Axl ultimately approves the plans of the team that plans the tours. We don't know to what extent TB is involved in this, most likely they use some outside counsel. Impossible to say.

    - Poor advertisement. I have no idea whether advertisements are poor. I kind of like the effort they make with the lithos. Anyway, if the band spend too little resources on ads or the ad campaigns are poor, that could be management's fault for approving the campaigns detailed by ad agencies, or Axl's for approving them - whoever does it. What I very much doubt, is that TB is free to approve ad campaigns without Axl's approval and acknowledgement. And if Axl didn't like it and said, "nah, do better", or "nah, spend more money on this" then the ads would get better. Again, rock managers are supposed to do as ordered by the client, and while this is often not the case when the band is immature and the manager is experienced, I think it is very safe to say this is not the case with Guns N' Roses.

    - Horrible selects. Are they? We would certainly have chosen better selects but I doubt us hardcore fans are the target audience here. We need to know what the purpose for the selects are and their effects to say whether they work as intended or not. I suppose it is just meant as low-budget videos intended to cause general excitement on social media, and as far as I know, they work as intended. But I could be wrong. Still, I am confident Axl wouldn't allow them to be released if he wasn't okay with them.

    - Abysmal merch. I highly doubt managers of any rock band is allowed to come up with and release merch without their clients acknowledgment and approval :D

    - Still no album. Really, that is TB's fault and not Axl's?

This all goes back to what I said before: We cannot asses the performance of a rock band manager without knowing to what extent they do as directed by their clients. And this is a big unknown to us. Are they empowered to make decisions alone or is everything approved by Axl? To what extent does Axl micromanage the work they do? Unknown, unknown, unknown. Personally, I don't see any reason to not blame Axl for everything. Seems to me people don't want to put the blame where it should be put and instead find it easier to blame it all on Team Brazil. After all, Fernando can be an asshole on social media and Beta used to be a nanny. Whether this is out of some weird loyalty to Axl, a misunderstanding of the roles and responsibilities involved, or something else, is beyond me.

Well, said. They say the fish rots from the head. And the head is Axl. Always been. Also the first 2 points really don't have anything to do with management. Booking a tour, selling tickets and advertizing the concerts is Live Nation's and the local concert promoter's job. Not management of the band. And most likely GNR get their fee either way and won't lose any money if ticket sales suck.

Sadly, yes. But they handled it analogically on the UYI tour, so they'll handle it again. There will always be something missing. Think about the poor people who got to hear the entire CD minus Riad at a single gig in 2009 - those heaps of old songs they could have heard instead but didn't! :D

But on the UYI they could play all the AFD songs anyone expected and still could do new songs with no one missing out, as people where expecting those new songs anyway, as it still was a productive band and that's what band do, when they start out, build the setlist with adding songs from the current album. But yeah, it can't get rougher than being subjected to all of CD, when you come for AFD and UYI.

Have there been any credible rumors about the US shows?  I suppose it’s all still an unknown.

If 3-4m people are getting vaccinated per day, I suppose a summer outside show is feasible. Hard to believe even a couple of months ago

As per the postponement E-Mail from GNR, it looks like they are still planning with North American dates:

Light is at the end of the tunnel and we are looking forward to getting back on stage later this year in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and next year in Europe and more!

Other than that. No, you won't find anything credible.

Well, they have – through releasing more material and gradually incorporating it in the playlist. You got about 5 songs that should be played (in fact, I’d say just 3 or 4), then they should play 3–5 new songs, plus more later, and the rest should be the known songs but not just those that were played to death in the recent years, and they should alternate these as much as possible. Add some wanking around and you got the whole setlist.

But that is the difference, they have gradually released new material. They've never allowed themselves to become a nostalgia act. Unlike, GNR. So the expectancy is something different. And nevermind that new music isn't all. It also has to hold up next to the old stuff. And yes, when I went to Iron Maiden shows (the 2 times I saw them), I definitely walked away missing some songs. And that kinda sucked.

The setlist is constantly changing with "new" songs being added on more or less every leg of a tour. Of course, to big fans like you and me, this is not sufficient, we would like much bigger changes like getting rid of all the slow songs, or playing some really deep cuts; but of course the band needs to cater to the majority of the audience goers who are happy with the sets, and not people like you and me. In short, the setlists might be preventing people like you from attending shows, but is not stopping casuals who come for the big hits.

I would looove if they played some new material! They tend to do this when they have an album to promote. Like on the warm-up shows in 1991 when they played almost 50% new material. They can't do this now, then. The demographics of their audience has changed. They could still play a few new songs, though, without this being a problem to casual fans, but as I said, the band will not likely do that until they have something to promote (which made the rehearsal of Hard School so intriguing).  As for whether the lack of debuting new songs are keeping the audiences away - nope. It might keep you away, but the vast majority of people attending GN'R shows don't come to hear something new, they come to hear something old and familiar.

They lack energy? We are talking about a band in their 50s here. What do you want from them? Stagediving, hanging from the rails? They run around quite a bit (Axl even broke his foot in 2016 from jumping). Richard may do some windmills. Melissa headbangs like there's no tomorrow. I think we get what we could expect. I wish we could take a time machine back to the 80s when they were in the 20s, playing on a small stage and not a huge stadium, but let's be realistic. We can't complain about the passage of time. Or, I suppose we can but what's the point?

    Out of likes.

Haha, whatever. They can keep doing the same setlist forever then.

You're clearly the biggest fan on here as you go to the most shows. Glad to know we've got that sorted and that people who dare only go to see the band once per tour aren't allowed to say they don't fancy seeing the same show year after year.

We're lucky to have you really.

Seriously, that is so not the point. It's more like you guys should manage your expectations/demands and see different angles. But whatever. Keep complaining. I will stop reading.

I "can't be bothered to go to shows"? That's news to me! Where you picking that one up from? Seen plenty thanks. Didn't realise it was a pissing contest though where the more money you spent on shows the more valid your opinion was. Perhaps you could organise some sort of graph to let us all know how many shows people have been to and how it impacts on the importance of their opinion? I'm sure you'd be right at the top.

Tell you what though... if the band could be 'bothered' to change the setlist, play some new material, or find some energy then they'd find the ticket sales picked up pretty fast.

I always enjoy the 'all you do is complain' thing which ignores all the many positive things fans say in favour of concentrating on them not being too happy that the band has hit a rut.

There's a highly amusing irony in your constant complaining about complaining too.

To paraphrase your own quote "it's so foreign to me, to go a band forum every fucking day, to bitch and complain about people complaining all fucking day long".

That’s what you (and people like you) keep saying all the time, don’t you?

Why should they change up setlists for people, who mostly go to the one show in their country and spend the rest of the year, checking every setlist on the internet to see if there is a change? Makes no sense, really. Majority of people see 1 or 2 shows.

Except. That is not happening. Show me my „constant“ or „daily“ complaining. I rarely say anything to that matter (both on the band or forum members). Especially since it’s beating a dead horse anyway.

I swore not to travel for GN'R anymore... BUT... I might just have to combine some of those later dates with a Europe roadtrip!

Sweden Rock Festival is a must for me as well. Cheap and disgusting beer at 9 in the morning in a tent on a rainy field with not much more than 3 hours of sleep in me, thought I'd never miss that... But alas that's what this pandemic has done to me

Yeah. Me too. But then again, I've been looking forward to travel again. Might as well do it with a gig. I still have a ticket for Aerosmith in Portugal (which kinda was to be combined with Faith no More, which fell flat), now I could combine that with GNR. Same for Queen + Adam Lambert. On the way down to Bologna I could pick up GNR in Milan. Just not too keen to pick up tickets now. Who knows what will happen between now and then?

Would love to go back to Sweden Rock (also to beat the damn ticket prices). Unfortunately, wrong date. Loved it there.

It's so confusing watching the two of you debate because you have practically the same avatar.

Yeah. I'm confused myself, thinking, I have not said that. :P But you're right, that Dubai show icon has ran it's course, so on to the Honolulu show icon.

Complaining about people having valid opinions @PatrickS77

Yeah. You're right. Way better to come on here every fucking day and complain over something you can't change and no matter how much you complain no one in the band ever will give a shit about what yout think. Seriously, if that band pisses you off that much, that all that's left is to complain every fucking day in a circle jerk of other complainers and moaners, then why not stop talking about them at all?? What's the point? Why be a moderator of a forum dedicated to a band that clearly pisses you off all the time and where you expect people to join in on your complaining or you will call them out for not complaining too?

Have a look through the threads though- @Towelie isn't the only person saying he wouldn't buy a ticket anymore. I don't really understand. Why single out a guy/woman (sorry- not sure which!) who says he/she was very excited about 2016 but now isn't interested?

Aren't most GNR fans now wanting something different/more? Of course there's going to be an 'obsession' on what the band do....it's a forum to discuss the band!

Everyone has paid to see the band at some point. Why is there a need for someone to have bought a ticket for a forthcoming show before they can say they don't want to see the band again?

When someone spends years complaining about a band here (and elsewhere), even before the reunion began and proudly proclaims he didn't even go to see that first show, which presumably was fresh and delivered what most of us hoped for and didn't think possible for close to 20 years and then sees (what?) a grand total of 1 (?)show and then gets bored and demands something new and fresh, then that deserves a comment. But you're right. I could have also singled you out, as one of the lead complainers, which is all you ever seem to do. Can't quote you all, really. But it's so foreign to me, to go a band forum every fucking day, to bitch and complain about them all fucking day long. And even more so, when you can't even be bothered to go to shows anyway.

Lol wut. In the history of GnR, and specifically them breaking outside of the US, the UK was very important. Just look at how Live Like a Suicide did in the UK. And how Alan Niven cleverly used his knowledge of the UK media to make the band a household name very quickly. And remind us where Slash was born again please, lol

Proof is in the pudding or lack of shows. In terms of touring, the UK is not important to them (or they to the UK) or there would have been more UK shows.

  14. 11 minutes ago, allwaystired said:

Glad you had fun, but that's not going to stop people calling out the tour for turning lazy and sloppy.

Why should someone not buying a ticket mean they shouldn't say they don't want to buy a ticket because the shows are no good? Are only those who buy tickets allowed to say they don't want to buy tickets to see a show?  Odd logic.

Someone who has not seen a show or only watched crappy Youtube videos is not in a position to judge. And only people who actually have paid for a show are in a position to "demand" something better. We had that before. And if what they do really bothers you that much, then why not just get the fuck out and move the fuck on? This constant whining and bitching and obsession on what they should do, is just ridiculous.

......and the fact that the UK is a massive destination for music. Hence why those things happened. That's beyond dispute surely?

Why it should be the case.....who knows!

GNR did play in London, did they? London is important. As for the rest... apparently not.

  16. 3 minutes ago, Towelie said:

That's why Prince played 21 dates in London at the o2 is it? Or why Michael Jackson announced 50 dates at the London o2 in 2009 for one of the most anticipated live comebacks of all time? Yeah, cuz nobody gives a shit about the UK.

Ooh, have I hurt your feelings? Prince did that because he was given an offer. Not because the UK is that important in terms of touring. And also I'm betting that the majority of those tickets, especially in Michael Jackson's case, really went to foreigners.

Goody for you. If you wanna chuck money at a corporate sellout cashgrab reunion by a band who don't give a shit about how they sound then that's up to you. I'm sure you delude yourself on a regular basis that the thousands you've spent is all worthwhile. I'd rather spend my money on bands/artists who actually give enough of a shit to practise and sound half decent.

Oh. That's all you have to offer? A sell out cash grab would be 90 minute shows. Far from what they are doing. Would I prefer if they wouldn't charge 160 € for FOS? For sure. Do I feel I have gotten worth my money? For sure. Had a great time at each and every one of my shows. You're free to spend money on all the bands you want, but quit your constant whining, especially since you haven't spent a cent on them, but still feel entitled to demand stuff.

3 out of the 8 remaining shows on the tour are in the UK so if anything, it's getting way more than it should!

They must have sold ok if they didn't get the axe with all the others. Not that they can legally happen anyway though now!

Well, I guess the fact that so far they only played London and a festival pays off for them now.
