Place your bets. Come tomorrow, will the band/Team Brazil/the label:
A) acknowledge any of this
B) tuck their heads in the sand and ignore it
C) rush release the single to online retailers.
D) Punish the fans some more and cancel the release completely.
B looks like the most likely.

Of course not. They didn’t have the remix version available 😂
The correct answer should be "These are made to dance only in the hallways"

Played perhaps twice, then JChan. Absurd wasn’t there, probably because naughty words. Shackler’s Revenge next! Almost did Scraped but I’m out of time.

I think it doesn't depend on ASCAP. It's a different database (ISRC codes), which represents unique recordings while ASCAP is for songwriting credits. Iirc, Hard Skool appeared in the ISRC database soon after its release.
That's great to know, I stand corrected then!

After Perhaps comes out, can’t we then know it’s “number” (I forget the correct term, it’s a type of registration) and see if it fits along with the number range reserved that also includes Hard Skool and Absurd?
No, we will have to wait until it gets listed on the ASCAP website for that, which might take a few months. I think Hard Skool showed up in the ascap database many months after its release.

Maybe they’re counting its possible live performance in Hershey tonight?
I think they are going to play it live before the release only if they are actually releasing it very soon after, like they did with Absurd. Think about it: they are currently wiping all the Perhaps leaks from YouTube. It means that once the song gets released and a little buzz about it starts, they want people to find the official version online, not the leak. And if they don't want them to hear the leak, they most likely don't want people listen to subpar live versions either (which would be the only things available if they play it before the release).

I have the US version of the vinyl, and it is awful quality! I've considered selling it, and using the money towards the superior EU pressing.
I think that would be a wise choice. I confirm my copy sounds absolutely good.

I believe CD has been out of print for a while, at least in the US. I usually pick up used copies when I find them locally (some are still sealed, Best Buy sticker included) to give away to friends/family.
Here in Italy the cd is still in print and easily purchasable as a mid-price. Vinyl, on the other hand, has been out of print for a few years now and I'm happy I could grab a copy (of the European edition, which sounds very good. I read that the US version has horrible groove distortion) before the prices skyrocketed.

What was the first country/region to report Hard Skool being uploaded on Spotify? I think it was NZ, cause I remember waking up that Thursday morning here in the US (NYC specifically) and seeing all the posts about HS with the locker art and an audio rip of the song from Spotify.
Yes, it was NZ indeed

Maybe the music video is not 100% done
They are clearly waiting for Lars Ulrich to sign off the papers to include him in the video.
Just now, Live Like a Suicide said:In the article, they say:
The track is taken from the band’s ‘Chinese Democracy’ era and is set to be officially released on all streaming platforms this Friday (August 11).
Yep, I already edited my post accordingly, but you were too fast to quote

Actually, yesterday I read this article on NME which also says "next week" in the article title, but then if you read the article itself it says "later this week": https://www.nme.com/news/music/new-guns-n-roses-single-perhaps-reportedly-coming-next-week-3479330

I think it was Axl himself, who said "you might have already heard it elsewhere", which led people to believe (myself included) that it's part of the General, when he was asked about that particular song.
After that, if I remember correctly, it was someone on twitter (Fernando?) who then confirmed that the orchestral concert intro was part of The General.

Great question. I hope it’s a full song. (Not the one that leaked, it’s more repetitive than a Police song)
The one that leaked is mostly made up of hip hop loops and instrumental parts from Prostitute, so I guess it was just supposed to be counted as a remix. I wonder if the words "blood in the water" are present exactly in that form in an unreleased track we don't know about or they have been culled from different songs (or different verses of a same song) and sewed together.

Someone should just ask Brain if those are his drums on Hard Skool.
This reminds me that if I had the chance to ask just one question to Brain, I would ask where the vocals from Blood In The Water are coming from.

I'd guess since Slash and Duff had to work with the old drum track, the intro was shortened a long time ago. The 2008~ version of Hardschool is probably very similar to the released version.
But, to be fair, it doesn't take much to shorten a drum track, if the intro was still longer and they wanted a shorter one
-
And now something a bit unpopular
I think the vocal melody in the Eye On You chorus is really good and catchy. That could be stripped of all the 90s synths that didn't exactly age well and turned into a decent rock song. Of course, it would need some verses and the "ah ah" vocals recycled for Hard Skool might mean that the song was completely abandoned, but then again, if these guys dusted off a revamped Silkworms/Absurd as their first post-reunion new music it means that you never know.

Would be interesting to hear a Hard Skool from 2006-14, see how it compares to both the Village leak and the official release. When did they drop the extended intro? When did Axl decide to cannabilise vocals from Eye On You? When did they drop Josh's drum arrangement? 🤔
If I had to bet a coin, I'd say the intro was shortened when Duff & Slash reworked it, as the ISE style bass intro sounds like something Duff would come up with. Of course, it's pure speculation on my part and nothing else. I'd really want to know about the Eye On You vocals though.

"The General" is officially delayed... but "The General" AND "Monsters" is (unofficially) out of the bag

7" preordered this morning.
I also have a question out of curiosity, not sure if it's worth opening its own thread, so I'm posting here first since it's kinda related. Does anyone (maybe @SoulMonster and @Blackstar have this info in the a4d archive?) remember where/when we heard the title 'The General' for the first time? I remember Sebastian Bach talking about it before CD was released, I'd say 2007 or early 2008, but I don't remember if we had ever heard the title before that.
EDIT: I checked the song archive on a4d and apparently it was first mentioned by Beltrami in 2002 https://www.a-4-d.com/t7987-the-general Thank you for the great work!
