  1. Reunion or no reunion, slash or no slash, album or no album, the guy's charisma is unquestionable. It's the reasons why all of us, including the haters, are here and drawn to him. It just makes you wonder sometimes, why he isn't out there doing all that he can? He could be bigger than Mick Jagger, Ozzie or Bono. What's stopping him?

There's very few genuine and nice media people out there - too many arseholes who have nothing better to do thatn write shit. I don't blame Axl for avoiding the media and public. As long as he's happy is the main thing.

Thanks for posting the video OP - always great to see him smile and be happy...

  2. When he's in pain, he is more down to earth, more quiet, and not trying so hard to be crazy and stuff. he has a sense of humbleness about him that I think is far more enlightening then any amount of swearing he can do in a home video.

settle down and play. Use George Harrison as your example.

    You're a Wanker.

  3. I hope they add nothing too fancy in the setlist as long as Axl's voice isn't as good as it will be later on.

If they do OMG and Axl's voice fails in it we will never see it again.

He needs the anger in his voice to do this one.

Double Talkin Jive would be brilliant thank you very much! Love the outro to that classic UYI gem.

Spot on there. OMG would be ridiculously challenging. Thats why I think Civil War would be the way to go.

Civil War isn't an option, won't happen.

Fingers crossed for another CD song/TAY to make their way back.

Does anyone else wish Double Talkin' Jive to be the song they'd bring back most?

I can't help think they need a few more hard rock tunes and take out 1 or 2 of the ballads/epics.

  4. Fair Enough... How many times do you get to see GnR play live in your city? Not very often I'm guessing. If you can't say "Fuck It - I'm in for a late night" once every couple of years then like they have written - Stay home and watch 'Friends'. ( I much more prefer Seinfeld though :) )

  5. I hope Axl never does the Superbowl gig. Either with the new GnR or the old GnR. There are way too many negative pricks in the media that regardless of his and the band's performance and punctuality would just write absolute crap about it. Not worth the bullshit...

Really? You don't want a band you love to perform to a TV audience of tens of millions worldwide because of what critics would say? Sad...

For me, if I love it, I could give a fuck. Loved the Stones, loved the Who, loved Prince, especially loved my all-time favorite band (Bruce and the E Street Band). The critics tore them all to shreds. I could give a shit. I loved em.

Yep , Really ! It shits me big time to hear or read complete negative nonsense about a band I love. Not worth the pissy little set that they would get to play in front of an audience of millions who wouldn't know good music if it crawled up their arse and out their eyeballs. I agree with you when you say that's sad...

That's fair. If it got the original 5 on stage together again, if only for a 3 song set, I would kill for it. Can you imagine the magnitude? GNR are inducted into the HOF in January, perform with the original band at the ceremony, then the Superbowl, and then demolish the world with a whirlwind tour? Fuck the critics, it would be the return of real rock n' roll! Totally get you, though, the critics are a bunch of double talkin' jive motherfuckers

What you suggest would be amazing. But I guarantee that if the AFD line-up played a 3 song set at superbowl and absolutely nailed it, the media would write shit like "Axl Rose is 5 kilograms heavier !" - Screw that crap... If a reunion ever occured, which i highly doubt, I would be more than happy that they would avoid all media, interviews etc..., as well as avoid anything like the Superbowl gig and just go out and play music for their millions of fans and hopefully enjoy the experience immensely while healing old wounds and finding peace in themselves! Screw the world, the media, the lawyers, the general public, the billboard charts and companies...

P.S Sorry about my rant! :)

  8. Fuck Coldplay's stream is perfect, hope this for Guns

I agree - just watched a few minutes then. Sound and Vision were great.

I could only watch a few minutes as Coldplay nearly put me to sleep. Coldplay should have warnings on their cd's - "Do Not listen to this music when driving a car or operating heavy machinery!"

GnR, being the excitement machine they are, are the perfect band to close this festival. :)

  9. Wasn't that the point of The Spaghetti Incident? GNR influences, plus all the bands stated above :-)

Sorry, maybe I haven't been clear enough. Basically I am just saying that while waiting for GnR to release any new music in the future that it is an interesting exercise to personally get into their old reported influences. And I was just giving my own personal account of doing exactly this by starting with The Rolling Stones.

In the past I have read about who their influences were but I was just wondering if anyone actually has listened in depth to these bands/ artists and can personally describe how they think it they can, or can't, hear the influence, and how they may have influenced Guns etc...

Also, as there are a lot of young people here (I'm an old bastard at 38yrs) , they may not have really given the time to appreciate some of these older bands that are mentioned in people's responses above. I must admit I was a bit ignorant of how good The Stones actually were.

    Thats all. :)

  10. (What is that instrument in the beginning of Gimmie Shelter? - it sounds very similar to the beginning of 'Anything Goes' !).

    Voicebox/talkbox/squeezebox

    whatever you call it.

I'm pretty sure it's the same, just sped up in Anything Goes.

    How bout New York Dolls?

GNR really hit Human Being out of the park.

also check out Lonley Planet Boy, Bad Girl, Frankenstien, Making Rain. I could see Axl singing those songs.

    Oh cool, thanks mate!

  11. Hi all, I know it is hard work being a GnR fan - i've been one for over twenty years. Lots of ups and downs and times of waiting. Yes we are eager fuckers but who could blame us when waiting for the best band in the world to give us more! :) Anyway, Recently I have thought to buy Cd's from artists that were considered some of Axl's / GnR's influences. So I have started with The Rolling Stones. When I recall the Stones I thought of their big mainstream hits that were about in the eighties. I didn't think that much of them - apart from having a general idea of their popularity I guess I didn't give them a try.

Well, fuck me. They are amazing. I can definitely hear the influence they had on the original GnR. Three albums in particular are outstanding - Sticky Fingers - standout tracks would be Sister Morphine, Wild Horses, Sway, and Brown Sugar. Beggars Banquet - standout tracks include Sympathy for the Devil, Street Fighting Man, Jigsaw Puzzle, No expectations, and Salt of The Earth. And finally - Let it Bleed with its standout songs being Midnight Rambler, You can't always get what you want, and Gimmie Shelter (What is that instrument in the beginning of Gimmie Shelter? - it sounds very similar to the beginning of 'Anything Goes' !).

So I would definitely recommend buying some Stones for those of you that haven't given them a go. They are brilliant and I sure could hear and feel the influence that they had on Izzy and Slash, as well as possibly Axl. So I was wondering if anyone else has some recommendations for artists or albums that were also considered part of GnR's inspirations/influences ? Maybe Queen, Led Zep, ELO, Aerosmith ???

I really don't mean to be a nit picking douchebag but the song you listed are from around 1967 to 1981. But this is a brilliant idea.

Rose Tattoo and Hanoi Rocks are huge influences on GN'R. Axl was a huge fan of Elton John.

Yeah, I can totally see Elton John when Axl sits at that piano. Thats a pretty damn good Songwriter to aspire to. Any ideas of one single Hanoi Rocks album to try and buy that represents their best work?

    Cheers, Scott

  13. No way. I think the current band is the best GnR line-up since the AFD boys. I am one of those that could not get past BH's absurdities. They guy is amazingly talented - don't get me wrong - he has more talent in his nosehair than I do my whole body but I gotta draw the line somewhere. If a guy was THE best guitarist in the world but came on stage with a Whopper with Cheese wrapper on his face and did a ballet dance on stage in between Rocket Queen and Paradise City I would feel the same. Nothing personal Buckethead - I love chickens too man, but go join the circus with the other side-show-bobs ! :)

  14. Young_Gun, if you haven't already check out Buckethead's solo work.

Nottingham Lace is an amazing song.

For albums, I'd recommend Colma firstly, but that's not exactly in the style of Buckethead you probably know and love, it's way more laid back. Smoke a dooby on a nice day and sit on your deck type shit. Monsters and Robots is a really good metal album by him and Population Override is just an amazing album all around, more keyboards than most of his stuff but it's probably his best.

If you already know about Bucket's solo shit don't mind me! Hopefully someone else can read this and maybe download a couple albums. If nothing else the dude is original and interesting.

Nottingham Lace is a great song. I don't know much of BH songs but this is probably my favourite of his. Others are Soothsayer and Jordan. The guy is obviously unbelievably talented and gives differrent shit a try. Much like Axl. I enjoy and admire musicians that have the guts to create something new.

There Was a Time is brilliant - great music and wonderful lyrics - ya' don't hear stuff like that in the fungating wound that is popular music today :)
