  1. It wasn't a lecture, it was my personal opinion.

I respect Axl as an artist and don't think he should be looked at like a piece of meat.

Still boggled that people are offended by that.

You must not have been around for the topic in Anything Goes that had some posters describing men as potential rapists if they just said "hello" to a girl walking the streets in New York. Or a simple "hello" was a verbal sexual assault.

So "hello" or 'Smile!" is derogatory and a potential rapist.

But "I wanna bang him so bad" is all good and fun?

    Weird double standard. :shrugs:

I think Axl deserves our respect as a human being and to not be sexually objectified. Some of you disagree with that line of reasoning. It's all good - everybody can think what they want. Everybody has a different values system than everybody else.

Do I have to go on the subject twice?

And why do you get stuck with threads from 1921? :shrugs:

Ok, here I go again: I said our expressions about Axl in this forum are harmless. He's attractive, we want to do him (if given the chance) and that's it. We are being "vocal" about it in a fan forum. He probably will never read this or learn about it.

This is nowhere near or similar to the catcalling and harassment women go through in the streets of any country in the world. Women are faced with guys who objectify them in "real life" and are vocal about their sexual desires out in the open, making girls feel extremely scared of what may happen to them in seconds.

I repeat, once again, I would never put Axl in that situation in real life. I would never dare to come close to him and jump on him (like that crazy girl from Porto Alegre), force a kiss to make him disgusted and terrified of me. Hell, I don't know if I had the balls to even say hello and look at him in the eye.

How many more explanations do you need to get my point?

  2. Thank you, that was a nice post.

Your new friend said she was obsessed with Axl like three times in one post. That's getting a little weird, imo.

I just love and respect Axl as an artist and hate to see him reduced to a piece of meat for sexual favors.

I understand that some people might not agree with me about that.

You are right, I should give more people a break. Your buddy is the one who got mad first through and started insulting people. I just asked her a couple simple questions - instead of answering, she went on the attack. So a hair-trigger temper and admitting she is totally obsessed with a celebrity.....doesn't sound like the greatest combination. :shrugs:

And I'm sure you'd be JUST FINE if you ever meet Axl in person. He isn't a God or super-hero. He is just a normal human being like you and me. He puts his pants on the same way you do - one leg at a time. He happens to have an extraordinary talent - singing - but other than that, he is just as real and normal and human as the whomever the last person you talked to in real life is.

My "new friend", lol. Finally, I have a friend here, aren't you happy for me? I have no friends in this place. Everybody hates me. I'm fluffy and furry yet I'm hated. Imagine if I was covered in thorns. :shrugs:

Well you dont mess with looney, so if she says she's obsessed you shouldn't have questioned her. Let her be psycho and that's all we can do about it. Our Axl's life is in Beta's hands, I hope she's got good ammo to repell the lolly's out of his backyard. :headbang:

No no no, you don't know me. If I bump into Axl I'll make a mess and since his blood is always boiling, I will get kicked in the butt for sure. Look, I don't want to be like this girl in the video. She's a horrible person and Axl doesn't like her since the very beginning, you can see how disgusted he feels about her looney ways and see, she forces into himself by kissing him on the lips. Now that's creepy and disgusting because he CLEARLY doesn't like that crazy girl (and calls her "crazy girl")

  3. I can only speak for myself, but you guys wanting to have sex with somebody you don't know, brings out 0% jealousy in me. Why would it?

There are plenty of female celebs whose careers I enjoy. I think Lzzy Hale is the best female rock singer out there right now. I think Olivia Wilde is a great actress. Lindsay Vonn is a great Olympic athlete. Three women I admire, who are all attractive. BUT I have NO interest in "banging" or having a one night stand with them. I respect them all as artists and masters of their fields - to look at them as a sex object is just disrespectful.

I have three children and I'm teaching them to respect and admire people for their hearts, actions, accomplishments and to NOT look at people as a piece of meat. I want them to respect their fellow man. No fat-shaming and don't look at people like they are just pieces of flesh for our own sexual desires. Besides, Axl has probably had 10,000 one night stands with women he cared nothing about except for a couple hours of meaningless sex. Why would you want to be used in that fashion?

I value and respect you as a person, Tiny. You are more than just a piece of meat to me.

Good you make it clear you're only speaking for yourself, because in that case, you should also give others the chance of doing things that are only affecting themselves. I mean, we girls on the forum wanting to shag the Axl only involves him and us, not you. So why would you care?

It is fine if you "respect" your female idols and only care for them in a non-sexual matter. That's your take and its respectable. Now speaking of respect, how about respecting the wishes of others?

Congratulations on teaching your kids the right way to be regarding other human beings, but see, there's a whole world out there called imaginary and scenaries. And that's part of being human too.

Axl plays a big role in our imaginaries and inner scenarios. He's part of something called "fantasies", which every decent human being has or have or have had in one way or another at some point in time. Us expressing our "fantasies" in this harmless space really doesn't look like disrespect to me.

It'd be way different if we go near him and mob him and try to force ourselves into him, or drive him crazy catcalling him from down the stage. Which is what most guys do with women daily in every corner of this planet. Do you see the difference?

Be 100% sure I wouldn't dare to "disrespect" Axl in that sick way if I ever was close to him. Chances are I either shit on my pants when I see him or my tongue seizes up and I get facial paralysis. That's how much respect I feel for him.

I know Axl has probably had tons of casual sex with people he didn't care about but it takes two to tango. Stephanie Seymour didn't care about him either. Sasha didn't care about him either. Did Lana care? I feel the only one who cared was Erin..... My point is, women sometimes don't care either. If sex is consensual, then no one is using the other. Or maybe they are using each other and they both know.

Relationships, either casual or steady, are not in terms of black and white, my friend-

  4. Yeah. That'd be a nice choice. And I have thought of Duff and Izzy working with Axl. It would be like a Velvet Revolver backwards.

I wish there was room for both Duff and Tommy, cause I feel like Axl is ready to go for that and even wants to. But there isn't room.

As for Izzy, he's a good pal, but I just don't see them working together in the near future. Perhaps some day.

We have Down In The Ocean as the nearest possible potential release of an Axl/Izzy collaboration. If that's ever released and it's a great song, will people still not consider it Gn'R, or it will just be labeled as "almost Gn'R"? I think a lot about these things.

I dont like Tommy, he's a drunk man. LOL.

Duff inclusion would strengthen the image of the current GNR. But I swear I have no clue what's gonna happen. At this point I'm so tired of thinking and I guess nothing will happen for a loooong time, really :/

  5. CD and new stuff, but I know it's impossible to not include material from the old catalog. So pointless.

This would only be for concerts. So if you choose only Old songs, they would still be able to release new music, just not play it live.

Yeah pointless of course, just for fun.

    What? O.o

now you changed the shit... game wasn't like that... at least, i didnt understand it that way. you're changing rules on the go!

You just made me lol :D

Read the title man: Concert material ultimatum

I read it! but title talks about live shows and now you're messing out with releases.

Don't mess with releases, dude. <_<

  7. I definitely don't disrespect his work I adore and admire every espect of his work without it they'd be nothing!. He is a bit nice though that's all, no harm in saying .

sorry if it looked disrespectful though wasnt intentional

Don't mind them, Laura... they are just jealous. Like... if Axl was a woman and they would be all over her, we couldn't say shit about it.

I don't disrespect Axl for finding him attractive and wanting a piece of that meat. He was selling his meat all over the place in the 90's anyway :P and I'm sure he didnt care if girls would approach him (which for sure happened 24/7).

I'd be disrespecting this dude if he was, let's say, Pope Frances, who has a comminment with Jesus and it is wrong to go Slash and try to tempt him, you know?

    :rofl-lol:

  8. Which I'm not knocking Spanish or any other foreign language music, but I don't speak those languages. So I can't get into that music, I have to know what the Hell they are saying in order to enjoy the music. Which I'm sure their are some pretty good Spanish rock bands out there, But they are not for me. I don't think I'm being close minded about it, it's just very hard to get into something when you don't understand the wwords, at least for me. The same goes for films, if they didn't have subtitles I would never watch a foreign film, I just wouldn't, I would be bored out of my mind, no matter how good the film is. But luckily they do have subtitles, so I can still enjoy those films.

I thought a lot about this post last night, and to be honest, the only songs not in English I can even stand are; LA Bamba, Du haust, Feliz Navidad, and some of Mars Volta's stuff. But that's about it.

I totally get what you mean and yes, knowing what they are saying its important, but unlike the films (which cannot be watched at all if you don't know the language or don't have subtitles) I think music is easier to feel and like even when you don't understand the language.

When I became curious about GNR I was a kid and my exposure to English language was very limited. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying the music and it's one of the main reasons why I started learning English. My like for the band was so intense and passionate that I did this effort only for the sake of getting a full experience with the music AND lyrics.

Maybe if you heard or liked a Latinamerican artist to that extent, you would be willing to learn Spanish. Or you'd be like me in the beginning with Guns, I bought this book that had all UYI lyrics in English in one page and the Spanish translation on the other. That made things really easy for me to grasp the theme of the songs, until later in time when I studied the language, I was able to understand the full meaning of them.

You should check the videos I posted in the previous page when someone asked me to recommend them music and see if you like any of it. Those songs you say you can barely stand are not even close to a good representation of Latin rock or music in Spanish in general.

  9. What are mod logs and why is it offered as part of the benefit of payed membership?

Mod logs are essentially a list of recent actions taking by mods - it lists what the action was (moving a thread, merging a thread, deleting a post, etc.), who did it, a timestamp, and what thread(s) it involved. It started as a way to improve transparency least year, more or less to show we had nothing to hide when it came to how we moderate the forum. Here is a screenshot to give you an idea what they look like:

I can't remember why the decision was to make this a benefit for Supporters originally unfortunately. I'm sure Downzy just chose to carry that over as a perk for the new member system since it was a perk for Supporters when it was originally introduced.

Thank you very much for the explanation.

  11. It sucks that Axl wasted the years in which he was most interesting - his 30s.

A 53 year old Axl Rose is nowhere near as interesting as Axl at 33 would've been. Everything that was a selling point for Axl - the unpredictability, the rants, the street fighting nature, the introspective rocker - none of it would work today even if Axl tried. Axl's unpredictability is predictable at this point, he has nothing to passionately rant about, he's not a spokesman for a generation of kids anymore, seeing Axl try to beat someone up at 53 would be kind of lame, as would him doing something controversial, and no one's gonna really care about the introspective musings of a rich, middle aged rock star. Axl's time was that brief era from 1989-1994 or so...It could've been the whole of the '90s had he not disappeared. Shame. He wasted his prime years...Rockstars stop being interesting once they hit their mid 40s or so in my opinion.

Instead of bringing his rock n' roll to us, Axl spent his 30s doing this

    E3C.jpg?5109

In his 30's Axl was not the most interesting guy, he was the most miserable one.

Maybe for you and for me and all people who don't know him it looks like he "wasted" these years. Well, believe me, no one really wants to waste time. It just happens to you. And the 30's are oftenly that decade when you discover yourself, you plant your feet more solidly or you simply go to hell and die.

The crisis of the 30's arrives sooner or later when you are confronted with the imposed rules of being financially successful, getting married and having children. By his 30's Axl had already won in the economic aspect but he was a complete loser regarding family, spouse, children and friends.

Those things beat you up and knock you down. From 1994 til 2001, Axl went through hell. He had to use those years to pick up the pieces and rebuild himself. And it wasn't easy given the fact he's a stubborn difficult person.

  12. Unlike many of you, I can't listen to music in a foreign language. Honestly I can probably count on one hand the amount of non English songs I can listen to. Luckily for me, rock has always been in English. I'm not knocking other languages, just stating my preference...

Do you know other languages to start with? Because if it's about the limitation of not understanding lyrics, well, that's your own limitation but it doesn't mean music from other regions, cultures and languages is of a lower quality Actually, Latinamerica has very good rock bands and you are probably missing a lot.

  13. Which I agree with both of you in regards to the lyrical and purpose to pop music. It is supposed to make you dance, and it isn't supposed to be some serious social commentary. But there are exceptions to the social commentary and dancability throughout the history of pop, but that's a whole different discussion...

But my main point is that when we hear Shakiras music, especially the album in question, what image comes to mind? Her shaking her ass. Which I don't think anyone can disagree with that. So my point is, if say someone like Gloria Estafan came out of retirement and recorded that exact same album with those exact same songs, would it of been such a hit? I would bet no. Why? Because it's the image of Shakira that really makes those songs go. Like I said before, Underneath Your Clothes is a great song, anyone could of had a hit with that one. But the rest of the album? No. How would old Gloria make Objection Tango, Whenever wherever, or Poem to a Horse appeal to the masses? I don't think she could. Why? Because the material isn't really that strong IMO, that's why. The only reason why Objection Tango and Whenever Wherever were hit songs, as with all of Shakiras hits since, are honestly because of her assets, not the songs themselves. Now could another "hot to trot" little pop diva come along and shake her ass and made them a hit? Perhaps. But again that begs the question to the quality of the actual music.

Which pop music hasn't always been like this, now has it? Elton John, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Prince, and many more older pop artists had more substance to their music IMO. Yes their has always been fluff in the pop world, and not all newer pop is fluff either. Like I said some songs are just plain great, and no matter who sang them, they would have been a hit. While others, it was all image based. But it does seem harder to find Alicia Keys type pop artists currently, while Katy Perry's are a dime a dozen. While 20 to 30 years ago it seemed the other way around, more quality, less fluff...

Laundry Service was the crossover album for Shakira. The album that launched her into the English-speaking audience. Before that she was a well-known young artist making it big in Latinamerica.

I don't think her best work is Laundry Service, though. Her best album lyrically and musically speaking is called "¿Donde están los ladrones?" with amazing rock tunes and thoughtful deep lyrics. Laundry Service is pop candy for the English-speaking audiences but it doesn't capture Shakira's real essence like her previous album did.

However, it was a commercial success and I dont think her looks and her body are the main reason for it. Unlike the process with CD, Laundry Service was not delayed 13 years, was not labeled as the most expensive album ever and it was promoted from Mars to Venus by Shakira, who worked really hard on her new image (she lost weight, switched to blond hair and became a way better performer onstage). She was accessible, she gave thoushands of interviews, made videos to promote the singles, and worked very hard to enter a new market that was competitive as hell.

So to make the story short: Shakira worked her hot ass off to make that album a commercial success and did all things she was expected to do. On the other hand, Axl didn't move a finger for CD, didn't promote it like he should have, didn't release a video, didn't tour it properly and his overall image was not that good.

  14. Im not disputing if they were right or wrong. In my opinion they were right on those points, but our opinion doesnt matter here. Its trying to see it the way Axl wraps his head around it. We may not think what Slash has said is all that bad or false, or not called for but Axl was offended, hurt, insulted, felt betrayed (whatever name you want to put to it), and until he can move past it or man up and deal with it then there wont be a reunion or a mending of relationships between Slash and him. He holds the keys and until he decides, if ever, then thats the way it is. Im not saying its right, or hes in the right. Hell, i personally think he fucked up quite a bit, like you said look at the last 20 years haha. I just wish he would put all that petty shit behind him and call him up and deal with it. Then maybe we could have a reunion or at the least Axl could put some fucking music out of his own more than once every 15 years!

    Does Slash want a reunion?

Feels like we are always leaving it to Axl's call.... but what about the rest? It makes no sense. If everybody left because they couldn't stand Axl anymore, why would they want to go back? Reunion implies working with the guy again, seeing his face, putting up with him and his shit they complained so much about.... Do they really want to work with Axl again?

Please let me know or show me where Slash, Duff, Izzy, Matt, etc. say they are willing to give Axl another chance. I know Steven Adler wants it but I'm not sure if he's totally aware of what he's asking for.
