It's not something you notice when you just listen to it, but if you really listen closely you can tell that there's a change of guitar tone at exactly 4:03 in Monsters. Up until that point its 100% all Slash, but during that change part I'm not so sure it's him and not Fortus taking over. Would be strange of him to just switch his tone mid solo like that for no reason.

I've posted about this a bit earlier, I really believe Soul Monster is supposed to be a hidden track, maybe they were registered together as "The General and Monsters" because Soul Monster was never supposed to be released by itself as an official standalone song that exists, or ever receive a digital release, but be a hidden vinyl thing.

I think I changed my perspective a bit on whether they're one song. It could be the case, but it could also be that what the leaker uploaded as Monsters really is (or what used to be) Soul Monster and it was supposed to be a hidden extra track as a surprise on the vinyl. Maybe they were registered together as "The General and Monsters" because Soul Monster was never supposed to be released by itself and split apart from The General as an "official" song, or ever receive a digital release, so Monsters might never was supposed to exist as a "singular" song by itself. Just a theory but I'm not so sure it really is supposed to be one song afterall. I suppose we can kind of tell when the vinyl released by whether there is a longer break between the 2 songs, or if they transition seamlessly into another.

That's probably because Fortus plays many leads on Absurd and you didn't even realize it was not Slash. Anyone who plays guitar for any length of time knows what Slash sounds like, I can pick him out blindly from any recording because I've studied his playing since I started guitar and that's 100% him on both leaks.

Opinions on the leaked songs

Some thoughts: The General must be the darkest piece of music Slash has been a part of since The Unholy (that song too was about child abuse, but by catholic priests) and also really dark musically. Interesting to hear Axl on such a piece of music, this is the darkest shit Axl has written possibly ever, even My Michelle doesn't compare. Then we get something Slash did on "Battleground" from WOF: the Monsters part is very reminiscent of what Slash did with Battleground, in terms of someone said it sounded britpopy and that was my first thought aswell, it's this big, anthemic vamp out at the end. It sounds "redemptive" musically after the dark first half of the song, and Axls "it's over now" lyrics complete it. As BG is one of my favourite Slash songs I was quite surprised and pleased to hear it. You can trace this formula actually all the way back to Rocket Queen. Overall I can't see how you're gonna be disappointed in this, we've finally got our epic, after 3 short-ish songs. The General is the 9+ minute epic musical journey people hoped for, it just depends on if it's your style musically, and it's the darkest shit they've put out since Coma so not everyones cup of tea. -
I don't think that would fit the definition of "scam". It's just a smart way to make business and maximize your profits from your product, when if you went the different route and released it digitally on the same day, you'd make less money because less people would be inclined to buy the vinyl. You can have the exact same product but if you're not smart in business moves you'll make way less, that's why people have literal full departments working on that shit.
