  1. Exactly. Otherwise Slash wouldn't have asked Gilby to be in Slash's Snakepit. Gilby didn't want to sue the band but he was owed money and no one was returning his calls. Like he said it was just business.
  2. I've got the magazine somewhere in my basement. It was either Kerrang or Metal Hammer I think. Either from late 94 or 95. I've got a lot of old magazines with GN'R interviews. If I can find it I'll post the magazine, the issue and the quotes. But I've got a fucking lot and it may take time to find. But if you listen to Gilby's solo albums, his Col Parker album or most stuff he does you'll know that he's into the bluesy hard rock thing. Gilby was forced to sue the band in late 94. His paychecks stopped, started and then stopped. Then after he'd been let go they were issuing merchandise that contained his image but he wasn't getting paid. That's why on the Live Era 87-93 album Axl was pretty and didn't include any photos of Gilby's face. Also listed Gilby (and Matt) as additional musicians instead of band members. Stupid really considering Gilby n Matt play on most tracks.
  3. You clearly didn't read or understand what I wrote. I never said Gilby was part of the GN'R sound. We all know that Izzy was the original rhythm guitarist and Gilby just replaced him. I said that (and this is just my opinion) out of all the solo albums by GN'R members Gilby's are the most GN'R sounding. Which yes is ironic to me considering he wasn't an original Gunner. It's not laughable to compare Izzy and Gilby. They're both singers, songwriters and guitarists. And they both played in GN'R. We're allowed to have opinions that are different to each other. Indeed that's why we have forums and discussion groups. It's patronizing and condescending telling someone they have no idea what they're talking about purely cos they offer up a different opinion. I've followed GN'R, Izzy, Gilby etc since the start. By the way. Just cos you open with the words "with all due respect" it doesn't mean it's ok to follow that with disrespect. That's what you call a paradox 😉.
  4. Axl hadn't decided to fire Gilby in 93. Otherwise Gilby wouldn't have rerecorded Izzy's parts for The Spaghetti Incident, Axl wouldn't have guested on Gilby's 94 album Pawnshop Guitars and Gilby wouldn't have still been there for Guns aborted 94 sessions. The real reason Axl fired Gilby with the lame excuse he couldn't write with him is this. Gilby said taking the band in a industrial sounding direction and having three guitarists amongst other things was a mistake. Shortly after his paychecks stopped, then started then stopped again.
  5. It's Five O Clock Somewhere? I didn't say he should get all the credit. Just pointed out that he deserves some of the credit for his contributions. It's funny tho. Gilby wasn't an original GN'R member like Izzy was. But none of Izzy's albums sound like GN'R at all. Whereas Gilby's albums do have a bit of the GN'R sound.
  6. Just reread the comment I replied to. It's not "since" as Pawnshop Guitars was released one year prior to the first Snakepit album. What I meant was that of all the albums by ex Gunner's that Pawnshop Guitars has the most GN'R feel and sound. Cure Me Or Kill Me is up there with Jungle and YCBM for me. And hey even if the first Snakepit album is someone's favourite pick for most GN'R sounding solo album Gilby's all over that album with songwriting, guitars and background vocals.
  7. Preaching to the converted my friend. I love everything Gilby. Solo albums, side projects.
  8. Yep. It's the only solo album by a Gunner to feature everyone in the band on it. And the only solo album by a Gunner to feature Axl. It's funny out of all the solo albums Gilby's Pawnshop Guitars has the most GN'R feel and sound. Cure Me Or Kill Me is up there with Jungle and You Could Be Mine. Monkey Chow which Gilby wrote for the first Snakepit album is another that would've made a great GN'R track.
  9. Pretty much exactly what I was gonna write. Hey I love Richard and his playing. He seems cool and plays a mean lead guitar too. And he's played with other big names outside of GN'R'. Gilby's played with some big names (Nancy Sinatra, MC5, Heart). Produced bands like The Bronx and LA Guns. But yeah the difference is that Gilby's cranked out a ton of solo, band and side project albums where he's the lead singer and songwriter as well as the guitarist. And whilst perhaps no Slash, Gilby is definitely a great lead player too.
  10. Gilby's solo stuff and side projects are great. He's like an awesome mix of Beatles/Stones/Bowie/GN'R all rolled into one. Gilby's got a great whiskey soaked voice. His voice has got a real warmth and genuine quality about it. His 2007 self titled best of is a good starting point. It's got a good selection from his first four solo albums plus his excellent Col Parker album. That and his most recent album The Gospel Truth are a good place to start. Gilby's debut solo album Pawnshop Guitars is the only solo album by a Gunner to feature every (at the time) band member. Slash, Duff, Dizzy and Matt all appear. And so does Axl. It's the only solo album by a Gunner Axl's on. But yeah definitely give Gilby and his albums a chance.
  11. There's a live version with Eric singing lead. Doesn't sound anything like the lead vocal on the studio version.
  12. Listen to Gilby sing it on 99 Live or any Gilby solo YouTube performance of it and it sounds like the lead vocal on the Snakepit album. To me it sounds like Eric on the chorus vocals but Gilby on lead. But why process his vocals for just one track? It sounds like Eric on the chorus but Gilby singing lead.
  13. I really like both Snakepit albums. I also prefer them to both Velvet Revolver albums and all Slash feat Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators albums. I'll pick It's Five O Clock Somewhere as my favourite of the two Snakepit albums. It's just got a great classic rock sound. It's got Slash, Gilby, Matt and Dizzy. It's almost the GN'R record we never got. Slash n Gilby's guitar interplay is perfect. Just like it was on Tijuana Jail and Cure Me Or Kill Me on Gilby's Pawnshop Guitars album. I love Monkey Chow which Gilby wrote and takes the lead vocal on.
  14. https://rockcelebrities.net/gilby-clarke-recalls-how-he-chose-to-be-with-his-daughter-instead-of-joining-guns-n-roses-show/ Makes you love and respect Gilby all the more. He loves his daughter and chose to put her first. Gilby's got his priorities in the right order.
  15. If and it's a big if there's an album coming it'll be CD leftovers with Slash, Duff and Melissa adding their touch. After Axl's gotten the leftover CD era songs out of his system then hopefully the album after will be new material. But knowing how slow Axl works that'll probably be a while.
  16. Well it's Axl's band and he thinks she is. Slash, Dizzy, Duff, Richard and Frank seem to like her too. So yeah I guess in the only two ways that matter she is. Besides anything's better than towel boy.
  17. I went right off Judd about the time it came out he'd been posing as a 17 year on Facebook, stalking two girls who were like primary school age amongst other stuff. He's not a particularly nice guy. Polar opposite of the Finn's. There's a mid 70s Manzanera album called K Scope. It's got Tim on lead vocals, Neil on backing vocals and Eddie Rayner on keys. And an early 90s Manzanera album called Southern Cross with Tim on lead vocals. Tim co wrote a lot of it too. They're both worth checking out too.
  18. Absolutely. It'd be boring if we all had the same favourites.
  19. Yeah I'm really looking forward to it. He took about ten years off making albums to work in the theatre and write musicals. But the last few years he's released four new studio albums. Two with guitarist Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music. Phil produced Split Enz album Second Thoughts in 76. One album under the band name ForENZics with Eddie Rayner the keys player from Split Enz. They came up with the idea of taking bits n pieces of early Enz riffs and building new songs around them. Most recently was a collaborative album with Andy White. Yeah I'll try and take some videos n photos at the gig. But don't want to spend too much time on my phone and not take in the show itself.
