Perhaps isn't going to sell tickets.  Most of the casual audience isn't interested in new music from GnR. There was a dude at the concert the other night who didn't realize they played SCOM.

Guns have a huge audience and people are going to go to the shows and have a good time whether they release these tracks or not

The song itself doesn’t sell tickets. The majority of people don’t want to hear it at a concert

What sells tickets is the coverage of the song/mentioning the band and the news cycle it generates. That will happen once it’s available

I assume the gesture towards radio in the US is because they’re hoping they can help them promote the numerous upcoming dates that have very sluggish sales.

The owner of iheartradio also has a controlling stake in LiveNation

If these songs are being released to fulfill promo obligations for their Live Nation tour, they could have also been asked to debut the song with their partner as part of it

Essentially they get one day to drive traffic from the fanbase. It’s all connected

Yeah it appears their idea of great promotion (and probably why it was delayed a week) was to give Audacy rock stations in the USA the song exclusively to play one day before it officially came out. It also seems based on Audacy’s description of the song that they may be trying to mislead people that this is a new song that Axl/Slash/Duff wrote together…

I think it’s most likely that these songs are here to fulfill the band’s promotion requirements with these Live Nation tours. It would mean Axl doesn’t have to do press to promote shows/tours to get news cycle flowing

I think it’s obvious by now that he doesn’t want do those types of things. Also that the band (and label if they are even involved outside of distribution) do not want to spend $ and the internal time to promote it any further

There will be a few social media posts and then perhaps some physical media to push to the fans at some point

  4. It’s a good song. I wish they’d release whatever else they have

As far as it being radio friendly or any thoughts of GnR capturing some part of the cultural zeitgeist? None of that matters and it’s a pretty high bar for those types of expectations or hope. Who listens to radio?

It’s “success” or however you want to measure it shouldn’t matter to us. It’s impossible to compare to the past. Do you enjoy the song or not?

Getting torn to pieces on FB article comment sections ... The casuals have spoken ... They hate it!

Comment sections tend to be negative in general

It's a Firebird, he's been using it for Catcher since 2016 I think. He's got a signature one with Epiphone, but I assume he's playing a Gibson live. Pretty sure he used it on another song in 2016-17 but I can't remember which one...

Gibson did a custom shop Firebird for him when they released the Epiphone version. There’s actually two different finishes for the custom shop release

  6. 1. There are numerous big time artists who have managers that are close family members or friends. There’s a level of trust that needs to be there for success. Every artist has different needs and that determines what they need from management

    2. Axl/GNR has had professional management before. They had the top manager in the business. It didn’t end well. It didn’t solve much of the issues that seem to surround the group, tours, albums, and the relationship with the fanbase as well.

    3. Good management takes directive from the artist and knows when to interject as well. Ultimately they are there to carry out a vision. None of us know exactly what that is

    4. Nothing is perfect, but we’ve gotten numerous tours with the band showing up on time, a reunited lineup, new music, live dvd, and fan club releases during their tenure. They haven’t been a roadblock for things to happen. Those things didn’t happen consistently under previous management

    5. Sometimes the criticism of Fernando/Beta crosses the line of role/relationship and goes elsewhere in underlying ways. Not saying it’s anyone in here, but it has at times.

    6. There are issues between management and this part of the fanbase. Something that they don’t seem the need to try and address anymore. It’s a shame they can’t/won’t engage and nurture this part of the base. It is what it is. Perhaps at this time, they don’t need to

Weather keeps changing. Giving a slight chance literally during gig times on my phone. Hopefully it changes

It’s going to keep changing all day. Hopefully it’s nothing too bad. I’ll be there tonight. MetLife is isolated so shows can go long.

Show poster looks cool. Fortus posted it. Don’t think I can get there in time to grab one though. Might have to be eBay unless someone here wants to help out

A few hours ago, a member here accidentally discovered that Perhaps came up in the search results on a phone app called TouchTunes Jukeboxes, which is a streaming service that plays music in bar juke boxes (I guess UMG either forgot about this service or just didn't mind it, because a release is imminent). So people drove to bars near them, had the song played and recorded it on their phones, and it has now leaked, even if it's a low quality phone recording with background noise.

Hilarious stuff, on par with the history of this band and its fanbase

The way this really plays out historically is that it gets pulled from Touchtunes and then never gets released. Leaving fans with phone recordings of the song with bar chatter in the background as the only source for years

It's really kind of astonishing that companies that work with GN'R have made so many gaffes in a row in the past few days. And these are professionals, they're not Team Brazil. First the accidental posting on Linkedin by GN'R's social media partners. Then Universal with the countdown test page and the jukebox app (because the label handles the distribution of the music and deals with the streaming services, not TB).

So either it's a plan or these companies have assigned GN'R to their least competent employees. Or maybe they're simply unlucky, because only this fanbase would find out about that stuff

Obviously this was an oversight or a mistake

However these things can happen when you operate in this fashion. Pulling singles last minute, having a part of the fanbase who’s constantly looking for nuggets of info since the band is mostly silent, etc…

It creates extra work and combing through an entire release plan last minute. It leaves a lot more room for error when things move in this fashion.

Other artists don’t typically work this way and don’t have to worry about fanbases combing for info

It is in the band's destiny to mess up any promo opportunity so that they can release the song like a wet fart with nobody caring.

They could do promo for months for a new song or album and nobody will care.

No one outside of this community and small group of people, who would find it anyways,  cares about new GNR music in 2023.  GNR is a legacy touring act and people go to shows to see Axl and Slash play the hits and relive their youth

Illusions were not supposed to be cohesive. The were supposed to be exactly what they were. The only statement behind those albums was something like: "Let's throw everything in there, from childish stuff written long before AFD to complex piano driven songs and whatever else was written by each member after AFD. And we can afford to do that White Album type* thing because we're GN'R".

    * I mean just the concept, not implying by any means that UYI was at the same level of quality as the White Album.

UYI was more of we should empty the vault and get everything out before the band implodes and/or someone dies. There wasn’t much thought of holding songs back and developing anything for a follow up
