swlabr Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I copied and pasted this from some other thread (it's me):I remember when Spoon87 and I would defend Hip-Hop from the haters on the forum, lol.Anyway, I love hip-hop. Rap is a completely different thing. It all depends on your connotation of the words. To me, rap is the mainstream "106 and Park" stuff which might include artist such as Lil Jon, Soulja Boy, and whoever else there is. To sum it up, it's pretty much the guys (and gals) that make "dem club joints" and songs that ask you to partake in "supermaning dat hoe."Hip Hop, on the other hand, is the conscious, thought out, elaborate, songs that aims at changing or bringing up an issue, one that may be personal or one that affects the masses. Artists (yes.. artists) such as Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang, Pac, Big use rhetorical devices so well you'd think it's Herman Melville rapping. To me, hip hop is for the intellect and rap is for the fool. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. AxlsAngel Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 So, is there a difference between hip-hop and rap? I don't listen to much of it, but I LOVE Eminem. I've been listening to him a lot lately. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I don't like hiphop.its not really my thing either..well i respect thatas long as you dont bash it for no reasonI usually don't bash music. Since this is genre I've never cared for, I don't know much about it. I've just heard the shit (My own opinion. I think Snoop Dog and 50 Cent and whatever they're called sounds like shit) on radio, but of course I understand that there are more, different and probably better things out there. But since I've got no interest in this genre I wont check it out. And since this is a appreciation thread for this genre it was stupid of me to post in the first place. Now I wont post here anymore. Hip Hop is the entire culture that includes Rap, Breakdancing, Graffiti Art, and DJing. Don't get it confused with the "industry" garbage that they claim to be hip hop. Meaning all of the bling bling, materialistic shit that you hear on your radio and TV. Quote

Actually, it was more like I was exposed to it frequently. I had a couple exboyfriends that were heavily into it - 2 Live Crew, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and a ton of others I don't remember right now. I always enjoyed it for the most part. Eminem is my Main Man now though. Quote
