Just got home.

Axl sounded absolutely killer from Jungle on. I really can't compliment his performance enough, he was stellar. Full rasp and control, crystal clear in the mix all night.

I do have to admit though, 11:30 - 2:30 I can handle. 12:30 - 3:30, even on a Friday night in Hollywood, was quite the fatiguing challenge. I was amazed some 60% of the crowd was still there at 3 am. I realized, in 2006 when they went on this late, they weren't doing three hours, so staying the whole time wasn't quite this crazy. I'm loving the long shows and I'm grateful they more than give everyone their moneys' worth, but 3:30 is preeeeety fuckin late even for a rock show.

My only other gripe is actually the setlist. And I'm at the shows so I'm allowed my two cents. Very simply, if you're gonna play the same city 2 months later, more than 10 of the 190 minutes should be at least slightly different from the last time. Even little things, like Baba O'Rielly, Motivation, Richard's solo, and Another Brick...for a band who keeps saying they want to change it up more, they could start with their own showcases.

Other than that, for anyone who hasn't seen the show already, it's a pretty amazing show and I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone who digs rock music and can stay up late.

Pretty harsh review... I thought i read all the LA Club shows have sold-out, is that not the case? 12:30 AM start is a bit late but why are people surprised? One thing the writer forgot to mention was/ is GnR played a damn-near sold out show at the forum a few months ago. I agree this version of GnR will NEVER sell as well as the original... But its still a VERY good show and Axl and the guys give their best, if its not what you want to see then dont go. If you cant write a non-bias review then don't write one.

Prince played 25 shows and only charged $25 a ticket? I find that hard to believe... Hell small shows in Jacksonville, FL cost that much

I have to agree... I just saw the show in Orlando and was happy to hear songs like Civil War, Use to Lover her and You're Crazy which I hadn't heard live before. BUT this was the 3rd time I was seeing GnR since Oct. IMO the easiest things to change are the solo spots. Pink Panther has been BBF's solo since 2009, at-least DJ mixes it up between ballad of death and mi-amore. Orlando didnt end until 3:30 as well. Was a rough drive home the next day

Thanks fumardude and I see you purely magnetic hehe!

I bet Axl's still partying, drapery collecting or whatever :tongue2: just, and I'd never thought I'd say it this way but Axl RUNNNNNN from ole' Charlie Hustle :rofl-lol:

I'm home from the show. Can't remember the setlist but if you look at the Miami Fillmore show, they played the exact same songs except the order a few songs were changed. One example was Shackler's Revenge was played between Civil War and KOHD. But yeah, all the songs were the same. We left before the encore because my lady friend was passing out and I was tired of holding her up, so I don't know what was played in the encore.

Few notes from the VIP Balcony:

- Didn't see Charlie Sheen. If he was there, he wasn't in VIP. The entire VIP seating section was annoyingly reserved for what I believe to be a gigantic group of people associated with Fernando. A bunch of young 20-somethings, women barely dressed. Just about everyone drunk before the show started and they all took FREQUENT trips to the bathroom throughout the show. For what? I dare not speculate. I only saw Fernando (or who I believe to be Fernando, could be wrong) near the end of the show when he went up to talk to a few people.

- Nikki Sixx showed up with Ashba while the opening band was playing. Sixx disappeared before GNR came on, probably went backstage. Aside from that, biiggest celebrity sightings in VIP were....wait for it...Simon Rex and the lead singer from Puddle of Mudd (if it wasn't him, it was his twin brother. Dude looked EXACTLY LIKE HIM. I could be wrong though, but if that was the Puddle of Mudd dude, he's is looking a bit haggard these days). Yeah, not exactly A-listers.

- Axl made a joke about how he put a sign on his hotel room door that said "Don't bother, I'm already disturbed" or something like that. Couldn't quite make it out. Also, he said "fucking" a lot tonight. He introduced everyone like...DJ FUCKING Ashba, Ron FUCKING Thal, Frank FUCKING Ferrar, and joked after the introductions that everyone's middle name tonight was "fucking".

- Stop bitching about new songs. Almost nobody at the shows wants to hear them. This I Love and Sorry couldn't have possibly been met with anymore silence than they were. Even songs that they've been playing since 06 (Street of Dreams) just don't garner that much of a reaction. People want to hear the old songs and Axl seems much more comfortable singing those.

- The band was OK, not as good as I've heard them in the past, but they all look like they're having fun. That's been the case at every Nu-GNR show I've been too. I think DJ Ashba has been a great addition for band chemistry. He seems to get along really well with the guys (BTW, he did make a couple of appearances in the VIP Balcony, once before the show and once during Dizzy's solo to talk to his girlfriend or whoever).

- Despite that, I can say with some certainty after seeing Slash perform it twice and Nu-GNR perform it twice, that Slash's band absolutely destroys Nu-GNR when it comes to playing Civil War.

- People really started filing out after November Rain. By the end of Nighttrain, a big chunk of the back of the floor was empty and people were just scattered about. Can't blame them. GNR didn't take the stage until about 12:30. Ridiculous.

Would be great to see vid of this!

Maybe GnR should have booked a show in Irvine, a show in San Diego and just have a day off in between, then hit up LA for a couple of shows. I just think it was too soon after the tour to go back and see them again in the same area. I guarantee the San Diego HOB would've sold out fast, and don't think playing late would've been an issue.

Hey guys - For those of you who went, was The Palladium selling any cool show posters, aside from the one with the snakes?? I know with The Wiltern (which I'm attending tomorrow),they usually provide a one of a kind print.Any idea on other merchandise? Pics would be appreciated.Thanks. :)

Edit: Ali, I totally agree with you. That review was crap. This band, even on a bad night could not possibly have been that bad.

Why are positive reviews considered quality reviews, but if somebody gives a bad review, then it is only because they re biased and they shouldn't be allowed to write a review at all?

And people are actually being smartasses to people complaining about a show getting over at 3:30 AM? Seriously? Everybody knows that Axl sometimes goes on stage late, and that they are playing a 3-hour show. There is a lot of difference between a show getting over at 1 or 1:30 compared to 3:30 in the morning. Throw in drive time, unwind time and you aren't getting to sleep until 5 in the morning. Which might be fine if you have no job.

Nutters are funny. They can't even admit when the band does things that aren't cool.

Glad to hear that Axl and the band sounded good. Sounds like the actual show is still top notch!

The review was factually inaccurate, Groghan. It said GN'R hadn't played LA since gas was $2/gallon. Not true as I was at the Forum show. Besides that, it wasn't exactly coherent or well-written, all opinions aside.

The show was sold out from what I read. This drunken guy should wait until he's sober to write his reviews.

Ali

Lame, grouchy review.

that review is not to be taken seriously.... since the blog name is "busblog - nothing in here is true." On the other hand that blogs title is not accurate either since gnr actually played that show... :D
