You know, it's not like they give you one. You buy one (or your fan club buys one). They cost to get one, and you have to pay every year to maintain it. It's not like you're being honoured, it's that someone or yourself put up some money. Seems Slash is doing the 'awards' circuit to drum up promotion for his new album.

So its like having to pay for your own table at hall of fame?

It's like paying for your own table, the award to be made, the cost of the realestate of the wall they hang the award on - all at extremely inflated prices that translate into profits for the group running the racket.

If I'm not mistaken, to get one of these you have to apply and then pay for it.

I guess it's like booking a reservation at an exclusive new york or hollywood restarurant. You are a customer, that's the relationship really, you are a customer - but you are a certain type of customer the business owner wants to attract. They don't let you in and let you eat for free because you are special, they let you in and charge you big $$ because you can pay it, and can attract others who will pay big $$$ to be 'special' too. Change plate of food to hollywood star, same thing, different product.

some people buy stars in the walk of fame, some buy out of this world unbelievable expensive jewelry (just to be stolen).... it's their money, they can do whatever they want.

Huge difference. The hollywood walk of fame folks and people behind it, work very hard and very purposely to deceive people into thinking its an 'award'. Someone bying jewelery, whatever, they bought jewelery, no deception there. The more you look at these things, the more you have to admire Axl for turning down the hall of fame.

On that jewelery thing and the value of it...I really doubt they cost him that much to buy as is being reported. They are likely reporting the 'appraised' value. If you've ever seen jewelery prices, you see the sticker price, and then you see the 'appraisers' note inside it. That's a piece of bs paper about how much some independent company says the jewelery is 'worth'. It's often 10x what the piece is actually worth. I wouldn't be surprised if he was wearing a couple of 10k necklaces, maybe 20k neckaleces, which when you think of a how much diamonds costs and gold costs these days, for a guy who's sold millions of albums isn't as extravagant as the reported 200k.

We need the mods to be on the ball with this stuff in the future.

It's nothing against Slash, it's just that every time a Slash topic shows up on the main section of the forum, it turns into a bitch fest.

I don't see how discussing the credibility of an 'award' that by many sources isn't really an award is a bitch fest.

Do you mean you want to limit thought on this discussion board, and just have everyone read and accept what is a publically held belief - without the ability for discussion regarding the truth of the matter?

That certainly makes things easy doesn't it. Here is your water fountain for you sir, here is your water fountain for you sir. No discussion, that is messy.

Relax, I'm just having a laugh :tongue2:

But when people talk ill of Slash you dont relax. I doubt you're laughing either. If you dont like people ripping on Slash then maybe you shouldn't rip on Dj. That's all.

if it's one one person it's the other, the cycle continues

He doesn't live in the past but wears the same clothes & top hat, plays the same kind of music... double talking jive

BTW, wrong section

Sort of like a singer and band that are making a living touring off of songs created between 1986-1993!

And have you seen how Axl dresses?

They are all "rock stars" who dress the part. Just like DJ dresses like a complete douche.

Take of your Axl Worshipping Glasses and get over it.

Those people who downgrade the band/players that made the music that the current band is making a living off of are no better than the Axl haters who post here.

Usually someone with deep pockets sponsors the star, in this case, Charlie Sheen (& Robert Evans) prob. sponsored Slash. Kind of surprised GNR didn't get a star, but after the RRHOF induction, knew this was coming. Slash wasn't on the list I saw for 2012, sounds like it was a last minute decision.

Slash is hyping "Anger Management", must be something in it for him... .

yeah.... maybe part of the money goes to charity or something.... maybe it's a better way to spend your easy money than buying jewelry.

It supports the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. It's part of the draw to visiting Hollywood, but someone should hook Ron Jeremy up with a star, too. Charlie Sheen's had his share of porn stars, so has Slash, yet none of them have a star.

I really doubt that Slash nominated himself, and funded it himself. Seriously, why would he waste his money on that. It is probably a promotional thing from his record company or management.

and for the idiot calling this an "award"... it's not like Joe Sixpack can just nominate himself, pay the $30k, and get accepted. Do a couple minutes of internet reading, and you'll know what is required to get a star. I think you best go back to lurking.
