EvanG
I'm in the market for a Fender HSS or SSS, but I can't decide. I play mostly rock. I know everyone says that a strat HSS with coil split is the best of both worlds, but I don't know how different one sounds from an SSS, apart from the humbucker. Suggestions? AxlisOld
You want a humbucker.

Rovim
I honestly think you should play both at the store and see what you prefer when you actually hear it cause those configurations are different and it's all about how much you need the fat sound of a strat humbucker compared to the SSS configuration which also gives you something that in my opinion you don't get even with the coil split. EvanG
Yeah, that's always the best option. I've already played the SSS that I have my eye on, but they don't have the HSS in the same price range in any stores near me, therefore I've been listening to a lot of videos on YT. Another factor is, I already own a Les Paul and an Ibanez HSS, so I'm not short of humbuckers, but if the HSS strat with coil split is almost the same as the SSS, but with a humbucker as extra feature, then it's nice to have it all in one guitar. ZoSoRose
SSS for a classic Strat. HSS for a super versatile Strat. If it’s your only strat and you have another guitar I’d get SSS
EvanG
I bought the SSS and I'm happy with my decision. It sounds great. Haven't brought it along to band rehearsal just yet, so I don't know how it will hold up to the more heavier high gain songs, but I'm sure I will make it work, or else I still have my two guitars with humbuckers. El Guapo
I got two American Standard Strats with the Fat50s, these pickups are great for rock. I use a Carcosa fuzz with a TS9 for boost, never missed a bucker!
