Slash badmouthing Axl in the press - questions...

The narrative goes that Slash "waged war" against Axl after leaving GN'R. This is why Axl supposedly grew to resent him so much, and he singled out Slash as the reason why it took him so long to get GN'R back together when Kurt Loder interviewed him.

However, in all my years of watching GN'R/VR/Slash-related interviews, I think this is the worst I've heard him say about Axl:

Doing the rounds for Contraband he still seemed a little bitter but by Libertad it seemed like he'd stopped bad-mouthing Axl at all and started defending him. He defends him a lot in the book too.

He's had a lot of chances to take pot shots in recent times with the Hall of Fame stuff, the release of Chinese Democracy, etc., but he's always remained quite mum on the negative stuff and extended a peace offering of sorts when he went on Letterman.

Soooo, just curious... Does anyone have specific examples of Slash talking shit on Axl to the extent that it would justify Axl claiming he badmouthed him for years on end to the press?

Not trying to start an incendiary thread here honestly, just always been curious what these supposed interviews were. I feel like perhaps the idea that Slash 'waged war' on Axl got a little overblown and exaggerated over the years but I could be wrong, I'm earnestly curious to see if there are any other interviews out there that I've never seen/heard where he talked shit.

There was an awesome thread about this once. I think it was moved to attitude. Maybe you could merge them here?

On topic: seem to me that axl has talked way more shit over the years. Even twenty years later. but axl is sooooooooo sensitive about stuff.

If you can find me the thread I'll happily bury this in it and merge them, I've never really seen the subject come up before though! I mean people reference Slash talking shit on Axl as a reason for their feud but it seems to just be accepted as fact and i never find a whole lot of examples when i search tbh.

Didn't slash say axl was a cancer?

And it was so inconsiderate of Slash to call Axl a cancer... especially after all of those internet rumours that Axl suffered from the disease. So wrong of Saul. Hope he can't sleep at night.

Valiant effort, but we've tried this before, ER. The anti-Slash brigade never comes up with anything. :shrugs:

Yeah, I have yet to see something that makes me go "oh wow, what a dick" or anything other than critisism that was by all accounts pretty valid on Slash's part

Actually, I have answered it many times before.

Go through and pick your own worst. Not saying there's anything majorly bad, but there are a lot of things that Axl probably took very personally.

when Snakepit came out, I had the tape. Slash was interviewed on Rock Show by Mary Anne Hobbs. You could hear the ice cubes clinking round his glass. Great interview. He picked Downpayment blue and Memo from Turner to play.

Anyway, the question came up about Axl not wanting ex-members to profit from the GNR name, something like that and Slash called Axl "a little bastard" and said "at least I'm working you know"

I think overall it's been more subtle, more like the guys playing along with interviewer questions. HOF was another example of how they could cleared the air but chose to throw Axl under the bus. Slash could have worked to get current Guns to play. Share the stage.

Slash said in early Contraband interview a lot of fans don't think this is the real GNR, and I can definitely understand that.

Both Slash and Duff books make it out as Axl forced them to sign the name over.

You've seriously never seen this subject brought up before here? Seriously?

My thoughts exactly.
