dambanker
Wow...I just lost a bet with the wife!! I can't believe this is really happening. My only disappointment is with the Coachella line-up....I think it's already been said here...but really who the hell are these other bands?!? I would love to go too this but if I read the website correctly you have to buy a whole weekend pass...there's only one band that I want to see though. Is that worth the $899US they want or do I wait for a stadium announcement and to go to a couple of those shows. Will they make it that far too? Sorry but you have to wonder if they don't blow up after a couple of shows too...you just can't rule that out either. But great news for all GNR fans for sure
Popular Post Powerage5
For the first time in my 3 decades of support for Axl and GNR, I can whole heartedly say:Meh..Why?because some people didn't want the reunion, they wanted more fakegnr...You know what? Don't shit on people just because they have different opinions than you. I've kept my mouth shut on my thoughts on a reunion the entire time the rumor mill has been going since Slash did that interview in August, mostly because I didn't feel like dealing with a shitstorm of posts because my opinion differs from everyone else's. But you know what, I don't give a flying fuck anymore. If I need to read shit like that, I feel like it's time for me to state my opinion on it all. I'm am not particularly excited about a reunion. I'm not vehemently against it, but I'm certainly not all for it. Why? How could someone who calls GN'R their second favorite band not be shitting themselves in excitement over the fact that a reunion, partial or full, is finally happening? Here's where I come from - I became a fan of GN'R in 2005. At that point, NuGNR was in the middle of one of their dark ages. Slash, Duff, and Matt were in VR and had already released Contraband. To me, the old band was nothing more than tracks on a CD. The music was (And still is) incredible - but I felt an emotional connection to the music itself, not to the musicians; not even Axl. GN'R re-emerged in 2006 with that lineup that looked less like a circus act than the 2002 band, they sounded great, and it was the first time I could put any sort of face to the music. Yes, I knew it wasn't the guys who recorded many of those songs originally, but that band is the one I fell in love with. I saw VR too and they were phenomenal, so to someone like me I've always been quicker to associate Slash with VR than anything since that's the first time I saw him live. The years kept going by, CD was released. I embraced it, it was finally a product somewhat by the band I'd fallen it love with. Finck left, I was devastated. Ashba joined, I was okay at first, but came to loathe him over time. But the thing to keep in mind is, in ten years as a fan of GN'R, that was the only lineup change I ever had to deal with - not this revolving door of the turn of the century that people talk about. It got to the point for me, after seeing the band in the ballpark of 15 times, that Axl wasn't even necessarily my favorite part of the band. I loved the other guys too (Barring Ashba). So then this fall the rumor mill started up again about a reunion. It kept building and building, and yes, it's finally happened. But for someone like me that has only known one version of GN'R, this feels...different. I'm not getting something I've always looked forward to, I'm getting a few guys rejoining GN'R that because of when I became a fan and what my story as a fan has been, I associate more with other acts than I do with GN'R. In a nutshell, I feel like I imagine the rest of the world felt when the old band dissolved. This may be what you, and many others, have always wanted, but for me a move like this bears no emotional connection whatsoever. That said, it will be surreal. I'm sure the shows will be good. I'll try to catch one, but it's not a certainty given my schedule this year. But this incarnation of the band is not MY GN'R. I finally put all that out in the open, not to detract from the fact that everyone else is celebrating something they have been looking forward to literally for decades, but to give you an idea that you have no idea what's going through someone else's head and why they feel like they feel. You can call NuGN'R whatever you want, but don't be so asinine as to belittle them just because they like that band and, in a few cases, would rather see that band than a reunion. For everyone else, I'm glad you're finally getting what you crave so badly

Zeppelin
Yes. Let's label over 100 other bands junk. Just like that. "BUT THEY'RE NOT GNR!1!!" As far as I'm concerned, GNR still has to prove themselves here as a functioning unit. A lot of those other artists are already well on their way.

Yeah, if you're an old classic rock snob who never attempts to seek out good, current rock. Not the shit like 5 finger death punch and avenged sevenfold, but there are good, often lesser known bands. Rock doesn't rule anymore. People think Foo Fighters are the best band in the world for rock, that's bullshit too.
