Of all the guys in the GN'R universe, Axl is one of those less likely to present blunt lies, in my opinion. He might be wrong on when he will be able to do things, but that is not him deliberately telling lies, that is just him bring wrong.
Yeah I agree - realistically Axl is the only one that truly knows what is going on. It’s not to say he’s never wrong, but I don’t think he ever presents anything with the intention to deceive.

Makes the most sense for the time, the general consensus amongst the hardcores here it’s Robin. Robin was also credited for the official Hard Skool. The other possibility is Paul Tobias.
To my ears, the Hardschool solos were Paul Tobias into Robin.

The other 6-8 songs on the eventual album will be mixes from 2014 or before, featuring guitar work by Buckethead and Robin Finck.
I don't think this is that farfetched considering the first notes we heard of officially released music from the "reunited" band were actually from Buckethead's killswitch

Josh fits the role perfectly. Absolutely delighted for him!

Thank you @Blackstar
Only with this band could I still be lampooned with an April Fools joke 17 years later

Stumbled across an article from 2006 that claimed that Joe Strummer recorded parts for a song called "Janky Holocaust" intended to be on Chinese Democracy that was ultimately shelved.
I do not remember ever hearing this story at the time so wondering if anyone else has any more details?
In other news, ContactMusic.com is reporting that late THE CLASH rocker Joe Strummer contributed guitar for "Janky Holocaust", a track recorded for the long-awaited GUNS N' ROSES album "Chinese Democracy", two weeks before his death. Rose has since reportedly ditched the tune from the finished album.

I think it helps that RHCP is still a collaborative band that released 2 albums last year and have their classic lineup. They're a perfect example of what a band 40 years in should be doing.
I normally don't like the comparisons between bands of a similar level of fame and era, but this is so true. I'm a big RHCP fan and an even bigger John fan; was delighted when he joined but his return has been even bigger and better than I could ever have expected. GN'R has never worked on anyone else's behest or timeline but RHCP and Metallica really are putting GNR to shame here.

Personally, to me, that "mystery" thing got old on October 2nd, 2011. That's when I said fuck it
Yeah that date was also a bit of a change in mindset for me too.

Thanks for bumping the thread, I needed a good laugh today and remembering that Ashba claimed he was asked to be part of this tour did just the trick.

Exactly. I was so excited when it finally came out but I can’t listen to the released versions anymore after having the vastly superior Village versions. Other than Shacklers of course. That is by far the best song on the released CD, IMO.
What a claim!

Why did you dig this thread up for an opinion
Isn’t that the whole point of the forum?

The drums on Hardschool are vastly superior compared to Hard Skool.

care to elaborate why?
5 hours ago, Sweersa said:Many (including myself) feel the mixing and mastering on the two tracks are bad. Compare it to any song on the 2008 album, or even a Village "rough mix" from a sound quality standpoint. The songs are too loud, the instruments and at times even vocals are not balanced. Frank's drums on Hard Skool have an awful effect on them making it sound almost like a drum machine, the guitars are loud and overpowering, especially on Absurd and the drums are too low on that track as well.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, @Sweersa

that's a great GNR song
It is - I think my point was more about the quality of production. Love the song, hate the production!

He is the worlds biggest perfectionist, so until every last second on the album is to his liking it wont be released.
I used to agree until Hard Skool was officially released.

Seems half of us think it’s clearly Axl singing and half think it’s not. Reminds me of when that first clip of Atlas leaked.
The second you heard Axl on Atlas it was unmistakably him, with this it’s just so inconclusive.

Apparently TB is going to Carrie Underwood's concert in LA tomorrow - judging by Vanessa's Instagram story. Maybe we get an Axl appearance. Might be his present for her 40th birthday she recently had.
To be fair, he does owe her for saving the day at the London 2022 shows!

Weirdly I was thinking about this song today when speaking to a friend about Chinese Democracy. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this song and I feel it was misplaced on the album; definitely should have been Hardschool as the second song on the tracklist to give the solid 1-2-3 of CD/HS/Better to get people invested. My experience when showing CD to people is that they think the title track is ok, but are immediately put off when they hear Shackler's, which sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Some comments/musings from my side.
- If I recall correctly, the first we heard of this song title was when there was a Rock Band 2 announcement. I don't remember ever before this even hearing the name and pretty sure my cynical reaction at the time was to call it as BS!
- Axl said the lyrics were inspired by the Virginia Tech shooting (April 2007), so by it's very nature the vocals had to be recorded between April 2007 and September/October 2008. Vocal-wise, Axl's voice sounds very similar to how he sounded on Sebastian Bach's album, Angel Down, which was released in November 2007, so it points to it being recorded in a small window between April 2007-Nov 2007. Wonder if there was anything else added in at this point, maybe Scraped?
- One of the big "What Ifs" of this song is "What if it kept the original Buckethead solo?". Now I know if you listen to the RB multitracks you can hear a really faint solo in the background but I'm really hesitant to say for sure that there was a properly mixed/mastered version that included the old one. I imagine if there was, it would've been on the Antiquiet leak?
Sorry for bumping an old thread but for some reason been thinking about this song all afternoon

If you had told me back in 2014 that 2 years later Axl would front AC/DC and absolutely kill it (best gig I've ever seen) I would never have believed you, so while I think its very unlikely it's not impossible.

Anyone here going to Glastonbury? I believe the tickets sold out within hours of going on sale. By the sounds of things, people need to jump thru quite a few hoops in order to buy a resale ticket.
Anyway, I’ve decided to go to Hyde Park, but can’t decide between the golden circle and diamond vip. Anyone help me out making a decision? I’ve never been to Hyde Park.
Lovely place but as it’s bang central London there are noise restrictions so don’t expect your ears to be blown off

Am I right in saying if you didn't get a ticket when they were announced however long ago, there's no chance of getting once now as there's no after market?
There’s an official resale market, believe it is in April.

I tried to buy FOS for budapest but when it was my turn FOS was sold out😭! Only premium ee available and I don t wanna pay 300 euros.. so nothing for me…
At least I scored tickets for the Oslo Tons of Rock festival where Skid Row and GNR will play the same day 🤩
Also same issue - amazed it's sold out already! Even premium is gone now too. Frustrating as I've never been to Hungary before. Looks like it'll just be London and Glasgow for me this leg.

It’s crazy to think the tour starts in 4 days and there is not even the slightest hint of anything. This must be the quietest the forum has ever been on the eve of a tour.
