  1. It is really fun hearing other people's interpretations of Perhaps' lyrics and all these different perspectives, it makes you think like, how normal GNR fandom could have been if all these years we had more and more new releases to dissect lyrically like this
  2. Hey Evader! Good to see you around these parts. I myself do want to emphasize, I have always thought your work on your version of The General, especially using the vocal stems to make a cohesive melody line in one key, was super impressive and it sounds fantastic And any points I made here in this thread were in no way a judgement call on the quality and effort of your work on that audio - my points have always been more just that, since the cell phone clip's quality is so bad, there is only so much we can gleam from it with actual 1:1 recreations of the actual song, so that means using what little can be heard, injected with one's own imagination are probably how I figured you made it And I wanted to make the overall point that as cool as your version is, it is hard to make a judgement call on the quality of the actual song without hearing the full audio of the real thing
  3. I think because in the audio of the cellphone clip there is a beat that sounds a tiny bit similar to the BPM to SOG however it is a fairly standard 4/4 groove so as of now I think it is just not enough to go by - especially seeing as the orchestral part and the parts we can make out in the cellhpone recording are in totally different keys
  4. I thought his Hard Skool solo was fitting, the Absurd leads were fun, many of the live leads he does, while some may be shreddy, I think are for the most part fitting (Better, Sorry, CD, etc.) and actually like his Perhaps solo All in all I am excited to hear his work on The General and the idea of Slash being on it entices me still than any of the CD guys personally - and I love Bucket
  5. The lyrics of Perhaps are interesting for sure, like some lines on their own including most of the first verse, to my eyes seem to be about Axl/the narrator shellshocked and then also guilty regarding a breakup he was threatened with but thought wouldn't actually happen (perhaps he was wrong when he didn't see her or believe her, but how is he supposed to know how it feels to be her?). That would make the "harboring this hate for days" and "my sense of rejection is no excuse for my behavior" bits make sense. Even the pulling the gun and crucifying his savior bit, maybe talking about how this person meant so much to him, and her breakup made him feel like crucifying (metaphorically) the one he used to love The chorus however has some lines that are hard to make sense of in that context - I interpret it as Axl/this character rattling off some of their faults that may have caused the breakup to happen
  6. I genuinely think Slash's solo is perfectly fine on this and so far have actually found the hate for it fairly hyperbolic on here tbh lol just as I have a lot of comments about him post-reunion live
  7. I have the ProAudioMasters high resolution file and don't hear any clipping on that, my meter rates it as a DR9 which is not terrible for rock music nowadays
  8. Perhaps, being a piano driven song, possibly Axl thought that there were already enough tunes on there that were piano driven? Prostitute, Street of Dreams, Cather, and This I Love all being very present on the album Edit: Caught_in_a_Coma above me beat me to it lol so my sentiments are not new but I echo theirs
  9. Honestly this is like my biggest GNR fan thing that can irrationally make me super annoyed lol the tendency to like take obvious non-facts as fact. Like whether it is those lyrics, or fans thinking The General is a later version of State of Grace, or how the tiny soundcheck clip from months back is considered to be Oklahoma with no doubt, etc. Or thinking random Village Session demo titles are connected to other song titles Axl listed in the 2008 chats Making shit up and that shit being repeated by people here just means total confusion in GNR fandom lmao
  10. I just think there is not enough audio information to either call it the best epic ever, or not a highlight track lol at least to me personally - I know my ears haven't heard enough to say either way. That said, thankfully in a short while we won't have to worry about relying on 2010 cell phone audio or recreations
  11. I feel a lot better about it hearing the final mix in lossess, it blends way more than the bar phone recordings made me initially think. I think it sounds fine now personally
  12. His mix, although well done, is only an approximation of a barely audible cell phone clip so the quality of the tune as of yet is one I think may be too early to determine It could very easily just be a vinyl B-side for a way to hype up and keep the excitment of yet another GNR song release going for a couple months, and then they release The General as a standalone single on streaming services - not neccesarily because the quality of composition is not up to par in their eyes
  13. Can't wait to hear Perhaps in October! Had a feeling they would play it live right when the song officially came out
  14. I imagine there were contracts in place to where all the material they used in regards to GNR could still be used by GNR even after they left - so I bet at the very least it isn't a suprise for them that since the reunion that would be the case As to their feelings, I can easily imagine Ron not caring, Buckethead not even being aware GNR are releasing things because he is too busy recording 10 more albums, and Tommy being cool about it lol
  15. If rumors are "GNR fans making up random stuff out of thin air trying to connect leaks with other working title names with no evidence" and other GNR fans read it and think it is actual info and pass it on as such, then yes
  16. Sounds much cooler than "written by Axl in 1998 and Slash and Duff writing more to it in 2021-2023"
  17. So far this year we have gotten: - Decent setlist shakeups with PTU, Anything Goes, and Bad Obsession in the mix - Perhaps - Perhaps music video - The General (soon to come) GNR have really stepped up their game in 2023 and kudos to them for doing so, I think moments like this go a long way when it comes to us hardcore GNR fanatics
  18. If you told me in 2013 that we would eventually get the official release of the 16 second mysterious clip that was "Checkmate" as well as "The General", both with Slash and Duff on them, I would have said "fuck off Ashton Kutcher I don't give you permission to use my likeness on Punk'd"
  19. Perhaps has been out in the US offically for 20 minutes as I type this and we already have forgotten all about it because of The General
  20. It would be hillarious if you flip the Perhaps single to side B and its just a bonus audio of the cellphone recording from the Vienna afterparty
  21. Sweet fancy Moses, that just came out of nowhere! Okay I was a "The General" healthy skeptic even with the setlist pics I am now officially f'n hyped
  22. I just find it hillarious they released Silkworms 2 years before a song that actually can pass for a piano driven UYI type of tune lol
  23. Especially when they are not using big Geffen money for promotion to help people be aware of their new single lol
  24. Not trolling or being contrarian, I just genuinely think Slash's solo is fine I respect all opinions including those who prefer Robin's take on it, I see no reason to argue with anyone about our own ears' preferences in that sense - even though I do maintain that some comments about Slash's playing in general post-2016 can get a bit hyperbolic
