  1. Yeah they should have just removed it completely. Slash's solo gives the song a good Guns vibe and doesn't need it
  2. Down to just 1 CD song in the set. Makes sense when you're including the new songs
  3. People only like it because it's called "The General" and someone said it was epic. This one is really built up for a big fall. Like Atlas.
  4. Good to see Slash's solo getting the love. It definitely gives it the GNR vibe
  5. My wife is a casual Guns fan and normally her opinions are very close to the general public. I got her to listen to Perhaps and asked for her honest thoughts and she said "Shite". Have to reluctantly agree. I remember listening to the leak and just thinking it was really boring and there was obviously nothing Slash/Duff could do to make it less boring
  6. If Axl really liked Robin's solo he would have requested Slash to play the same solo or at least shelved the song. He obviously likes it more.
  7. It's actually essentially very similar to Robins at the start. He's playing the same notes but a lower octave.
  8. Robin had some nice notes at the start of the solo but his version just fizzled out. I kind of prefer Slash's solo also. In the CD era though, it is hard to actually tell who played what. Really it is Axl creating solos by copying and pasting parts.
  9. It's a shit song. Definitely has b side/leftovers feel to it. Just really boring. Hopefully they release whatever they have soon so maybe a few years from now we'll get something good.
  10. It's actually baffling that they're going to release this now when the tour is coming to an end and then there is Christmas holidays and Slash solo career early next year. I'd love to know what logic they apply...
  11. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Both bands had a very short successful period that defined them. 73 - 77 for Skynyrd and 87 -93 for Guns. Both bands are still going today mainly as touring acts with many line up changes over the years. Although to be fair, Skynyrd tried to keep it legit. It was mainly death that led to line up changes and they always admitted they were kind of a tribute act.
  12. I agree with the vast majority of that. Axl and Slash are both well past their peak years. They probably reunited for several reasons, money being one. Axl is obviously hung up on these songs and the only way to release music is to rework them. I imagine Slash and Duff would much prefer to do new stuff than this. They might have even rejected some of this stuff in the 90s. Now what we get is a lot of compromises. I'm actually most excited about Slash's solo album. And I wish Axl had of got this stuff out before the reunion.
  13. It's not a guitar driven album. There isn't really any riffs or solo's that stand out. Most of the solos are just kind of shredding for the sake of it That doesn't mean there isn't some ok songs though.
  14. The complaints about Slash are ridiculous. He's a blues based rock n roll guitarist. He quit the band in the 90s and one of the main reasons was creative differences. So of those creative differences are essentially not wanting to do piano based stuff, Industrial, grunge etc When Axl had no band left in 2015, he contacted Slash. Slash could have easily insisted on doing no Chinese stuff at all. Or at least just 1 or 2 songs. Instead he goes and learns almost the whole album and was even open to reworking some of these leftovers. Despite this stuff being far removed from his style. People should be thankful. Without him doing this, you probably wouldn't have CD songs in the set at all and these leftovers would be shelved.
  15. Not really. His last 2 solo albums still had plenty of excellent guitars, granted they were rushed due to Guns commitments. I'm sure his solo album next year will be really good. He quit Guns in the 90s because he didn't like the musical direction along with other reasons. I doubt he's too inspired with not writing new material and just been asked to slap a solo on a 20 yr old song that didn't make the cut for CD.
  16. Perhaps doesn't sound like Brian May to me at all. But with Axls style of recording, it's hard to be certain what you are listening to. There could be a lot of copy and paste going on. It wouldn't surprise me If guitarists listened to the finished product and didn't remember playing that solo at all.
  17. It's a typical CD era song. Quite boring and plods along with piano and no real interesting guitar parts. Robins original solo started off quite nicely but failed to go anywhere. Slash starts off pretty much the same but in a lower octave and then gives a better ending. Neither solo is particularly great but it's a song that doesn't really lend itself to an epic solo and can't really be saved. This band could really do with having a strong manager to just tell them it's boring and write something fresh.
  18. Shredding is not part of the Guns N Roses sound really. I'm sure any songs with that sound have been shelved. It seems like most of Nu Guns hated Bucket anyways so probably best to move on
  19. If they were meant to remain there then Axl would have released them years ago. He obviously wasn't comfortable to do so for whatever reasons and has asked Slash to do his versions which Axl seems happier with.
  20. I listened to the solo a few times now and I definitely prefer it to the original. It actually goes somewhere. I like how Robin started his version of the solo but it quickly fizzled out and ended. Slash plays more or less the same part at the beginning but in a different position and then adds some chunky parts and nice little run to end it.
  21. I don't really like the song or the original solo. But this solo also sounds to me like Slash has gotten the Axl treatment. It doesn't sound like something that Slash actually played. Several different parts copied and pasted together in a Frankenstein type of way.
