In regard to Axl’s voice.  A few things.  As a musician and singer myself your voice is never the same every night.  The caliber and amount of touring bands did in late 80’s and 90’s damaged a lot of singers voices.  Add in smoking, alcohol, soda, and other things that damage your vocal pallet.  The voice is a muscle that wears over time.  Bon Jovi has discussed this.  If he wants to sing however he can, then cool IMO.  He’s worth 200$ million he can do what he wishes. There’s reasons there is a saying of “rock n roll is a young man’s game.”  Corey Taylor even said “you think I’ll be able to scream the song people=shit at 70? It’s just not possible.”

In regard to new song(s) I think Hyde park would make sense as a single release.  Given the show day/time and volume that will be there but I could be 1000% wrong.  I assume they’ll follow same model and we will see 2 songs.  Probably no more than that this year.  Annoying but eh.  I think Fortus sitar pedal would be relevant for Atlas.  I’ll have to match his settings on my same ravish sitar pedal and see what it does. I really hope they release Atlas, Perhaps, The General, and finalized state of grace.

The fact they’ve released locker leak songs makes me really question if there is even many more completed songs.  If there were your think they’d release something nobody’s heard.  Anyone else a bit surprised by Atlas? First time I heard that I was like (it’s cool, but not as epic as I thought it would be.) I am wondering if we all may feel same about the general when we hear it.  What if it’s 1:30 seconds of that intro and then just 45 seconds of singing?  I always thought Atlas would be more estranged-ish based on discussion.  I’d really like to hear a confident and finalized version of state of grace.  That curly shuffle song would be cool to hear.  I still think that song could be a mid 90’a pre slash exit song.  I think a few songs on the lockers could be.  Obviously Oklahoma as well.

I think Atlas was just described wrong by the people who heard it. Classic Rock described it as glam rock November Rain which was way off. The 1st minute of the songs is incredible with the Sitar, Drums, and acoustic guitar but the other 3 minutes are just ok. There is a very good song in there but the back half needs a lot of work.

Unless they re-mix (to correct) Absurd and Hard Skool and properly master them, I hope they leave them off a future release, unless they plan on mixing new songs in the same awful fashion... which would be upsetting.

I hope Slash's influence on The General, Perhaps, etc. doesn't take it down a notch or two.

I would also like it if half or more of an eventual new album has songs completely untouched by the NITL lineup. Songs like Shackler's Revenge, Slash wouldn't fit well anyways. I wonder what will become of the Bucket-heavy tracks.

It’s crazy that those songs don’t sound right when Chinese sounds so good with the same team. People complain about the layers but the mix and mastering on that album is superb

It’s actually interesting to me that they’re going with the General over Atlas Shugged.

I think Perhaps and Atlas are a bit too similar. Mid tempo guitar rockers. I’m assuming the General is going to fall into the Epic category. So a totally different kinda song. Sort like how Hard Skool is a more straightforward rocker whereas Absurd sounds like AI created by Aliens decided to make a rock song with Axl Roses vocals and Slashes blues based tone spray painted on.

Prostitute is my favourite song on CD but the reaction when it finally leaked was definitely mixed. We've built up songs before (Sorry is another example) and then people are let down when they finally hear it.

The cell phone clip of The General sounds cool but I can't form much of an opinion from it. I don't think SOG has anything to do with The General though, who knows why it wasn't listed in the 2008 email... it could've been replaced by Cuban Skies or something else :shrugs:

Sorry was another song that was described nothing like it sounds like.
Forgot about Cuban Skies. There has to be at least ten more songs with vocals.

I'm definitely curious to hear it but I don't know if it's the holy grail lol. Just keep in mind how hyped up Prostitute was, and then lots of fans hated it. Atlas was a 'big gun' and ended up being mediocre. What we've heard of the General sounds cool, but so does Me & My Elvis, Circus Maximus, Zodiac, etc.

I'm just glad they might release something that, for the most part, hasn't already leaked.

Prostitute ended up being awesome. Checkmate/Jackie Chan/ Hard School ended up being really good especially the 2000 version. The General is an epic style Axl Rose song. TWAT, Prostitute, Maddy, are all good. Epics are what the guy does the best. I think it’s a good bet it’s gonna be awesome. The crappy cell phone clip sounds like an awesome song.

Side Note- are we sure SOG didn’t morph into the General? I think it’s very odd that it is basically a complete song and was not on that 2008 leaked email list.

Guys, I wouldnt get too excited for this.

We’ll be waiting a long time till these guys release anything

It’s hard not to get a bit excited when they are sound checking unreleased material and the General is on a set list sheet that’s real.

The General is the absolute holy grail of the CD era. The thought that it could be officially released in the near future is about the most exciting thing that could happen other than a new album being released.

Just spent several minutes explaining to my wife that there is a 20 year old song called the General named after some Chinese food that we may have heard on a dodgy phone recording a few years back and it's supposedly the holy grail of GNR.

Fast forward several years and a photo of a set list shows up and if you zoom in closely there is clearly a 2nd page underneath with some text coming through that seems to say the General and it may or may not be legit but seems to be...

    She wasn't too excited.

My wife has been through the whole Chinese saga w me. I rarely bring anything up anymore unless something has actually happened lol.

It's right below Civil War... given the fact that DOTF, Bad Obsession, PTU and Anything Goes all got given a ride about, I'd like to think so

Wow that’s great news. Hopefully a live performance with a single release like the other 2
