I always found it way more likely that the lyrics were "from the character", not Axl's personal view. Is there anything known that indicates something else?

I mean, his favorite singers were always Elton and Freddie. Can't think of anything racist either.

This. I never thought this song in anyway was reflection of Axl’s or the band’s view on race, sexual orientation, or immigration. Instead I believe it was supposed to be told from the perspective of a character who was probably based on people Axl grew up with in rural Indiana. The lyrics are highly controversial but were not as controversial in 1988. Younger “woke” people would be offended by the song but they are offended by everything anyway. The music in the song is absolutely incredible especially Slash’s guitar solo.

Most likely hacked twitter: (36) 30. MARCH-DECEMBER 2010 - TOURING EUROPE AND REUNITING WITH DUFF (a-4-d.com)

I always assumed Axl had cancelled the tour over twitter, it seemed like such a rash, emotional thing to do and typical of him. But the arguments in favor of his twitter being hacked were surprisingly strong.

It was not a hack. It very difficult to hack companies like that and they hacked to say nugnr is canceling a tour that hardly anyone was aware of? I think not. That is management playing spin control of an excessive and compulsive emotional response by Axl

Do we have any concrete evidence regarding the alleged rejection of the follow up to Chinese prior to Reading/Leeds? Was it around this time that Axl had put up the tweets cancelling the tour/dissolving GNR? Fernando denied it ever happening on either the Discord Q&A or Reddit, but then again...

He 100% cancelled the summer 2010 tour on Twitter. It was in May. I remember because I completely freaked out because we had just booked a trip to travel to Paris to see them in July.

  4. I love the digital drums on the 2006 versions of Better, IRS, and TWAT.  In 2000 music critic David Wild described the CD songs he heard in November 1999 as Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti remixed by Trent Reznor and Beck. When I heard these songs with those digital drum intros and the synth effects I thought that his description was spot on.

  5. Axl came on this forum and talked about recording the vocals for Soul Monster. Did he just make that up lol? Chinese Democracy had 2 parts. Multiple people have heard the second part and have talked about it publicly. Axl wanted the second part out for 2010 European tour. The label did not want to do it. He went on Twitter and canceled the tour via his personal account and then reneged (probably bc he would have been sued for millions) the idea that only 3-4 more songs have completed vocals is ridiculous. It’s most likely 8-12 more tracks.

So scheduled interview with Sean for me on 2/6

    Questions?

    @Gambit83

How many songs were originally slated for CD in 1999/2000?

How long was the time period in which Axl recorded his vocals? Was it a few days, a few weeks or a few months?

How was the decision made as to which songs would receive vocals first? Was this a team decision or an Axl only decision?

Were Axl’s vocals completed over many takes or single takes?

  7. I have no further expectations. If Mexico and Australia were still happening I feel like we MAYBE would have gotten another single or two. But I don’t care if anything else happens this year. They released two new songs. Things are heading in the right direction for the future.

Actually, Beltrami said they had no vocals when he worked on them in 2003.

    https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/film-composer-talks-about-his-work-on-guns-n-roses-chinese-democracy/

""That was sort of just work for hire," Beltrami explained. "I guess they'd heard some of my orchestral music of mine. I met with Axl [Rose] and he played me these songs, asked me my ideas about them, and I told him what I thought they needed. They gave me four songs to orchestrate. A couple of them I did more than orchestrating, I actually wrote some melodies and stuff. It was a fun project. I really enjoyed it. The music was eclectic and at the time that I was doing it there were no lyrics on the songs that I was working on. People ask me about the album and I really have no idea about the release. I thought it was coming out last September. I'm the wrong person to ask about that."

I stand corrected. Thanks @ShadowOfTheWave. But we know the General has VOCALS. Axl himself said in 2006 that 26 of 32 songs were done or nearly done. In the 2008 chats he talked about recording the VOCALS for Soul Monster. The guy who hung out with Axl in 2003 heard Cuban Skies with VOCALS. This idea that no vocals were recorded past 1999 is preposterous.
