call it raw rock energy or whatever but the truth is it's just fucking bad, especially in comparison to the recent performances

New GNR - 1

Old GNR - 0

Although the current version of Nice Boys is fuckin great, you could feel in that old performance a sort of raw energy that exists no more. And I'm not just referring to the vocals...

Am I supposed to be surprised or impressed that a bunch of 35-40 + year old musicians can play a song better than a bunch of 22-24 year old kids? Wow....amazing. In other news, Cliff Lee wasn't as good of a pitcher when he was at 20 as he is now.

Not to mention the current GUNS has about three more members. It sounds better because they basically have a producer (sound guy) in Pitman on the stage every night.

Nice post but an obvious one. You can't even compare the current lineup to the original. The new lineup sounds way more precise and professional.

I have to laugh at you fools here...god did you people miss the point utterly and completely...These guys brought the whole fucken silly hair band rock and roll scene to notice with what did ya'll say "raw rock energy'..made a statement that evidently somebody bought into..like number one debut album of all time...with songs that your "precise and professional" fellas can play with..."precision and professionalism"

These guys were just beginning to make thier assault on the world here..and then you say such utter complete shit like you do.Hey if .you like the tamed down nice comfortable clean band who...duh have been at it for 25-30 years as professionals im all for it...but your in two different eras..

clearly a generational argument here..better is a matter of taste.. if you didnt jump on GNRs band wagon when they were prime.. you simply missed out cuz it had more going on than any ten modern bands ever did or ever will.

Yeah, takes all the fun and unpredictability out of it doesn't it?

exactly, and people sticking up for Nu will say that you can't quantify or explain raw, or feeling, or energy, but it's there and it does make a difference. And if you can't hear it, you'll never get why that 80s lineup is so revered to this day...

Never liked the song nice boys, always skipped it.

Live is amazing and it ended up being one if my favourites of the night.

Actually I have two lists of my favourite GNR songs. A lice list and a studio list

You obviously don't know much about the magic of the AFD lineup. The current band's Nice Boys is better than that clip you posted though.

Never saw those clips. Thank you. Great raw chemistry, especially on 'Used to love her'.

It's that sort of thing that turned me into a fan in the first place. Incredible.

Comparing the old and new is like comparing sex when you are a teenager and when you are in your 30's. Sure in your 30's you've gotten a lot better at it, maybe some good technique, perfected camera angles, it's all very professional. But when you are a teenager, your banging girls hoping your mom doesn't walk in and it is filled with lust, raw energy, and forbidden passion.

I respect the fact that you may be a bigger fan of new gnr, but they can't hold a candle to the intensity and vibe of the old band.
