Who has the lyrics for Going Down?

The chorus sounds to me like he's saying "as you're going down" rather than "it's going down".

Yep, I changed that already in the lyrics near the top of the first page for the last line of the chorus. For the rest it's debateable.

I think it's "You never mean to hurt no one, they just happen to be there next to you, as you're going down". He could be saying this person doesn't intentionally set out to hurt others but ends up taking them down with him/her. But I think it's more sarcastic, as in you may not set out to hurt people, but because they're close to you, they end up going down with you and you don't care enough to change your behaviour.

I think it's "You never mean to hurt no one, they just happen to be there next to you, as you're going down". I think he's saying this person doesn't intentionally mean to hurt otherse but ends up taking them down with him/her. That's my interpretation anyway.

That's a good interpretation, but mine is he's saying he hurt people because he happen to be next to the person going down....

Ended up refining my point, just in case you didn't see it, here it is. He's pretty sarcastic throughout the song, so we may basically be saying the same thing:

I think we are saying the same but it's just specifics I guess..

I'm saying "I"

while you are saying "they"

I'm listening to the song right now, and it really does sound more like I (But that's just my opinion :shrugs: )

Thanks for the rest of the lyrics

Pretty sure it's "as you're going down" throughout, as somebody mentioned. It could be "I" instead of "they", a couple are hard to tell but there's one that definitely sounds like "they" or "that" to me. It would make lyrical sense to say "they" in an early verse, and "I" in the last verse, so it could be both. I wonder if it is "do it to yourself". The last one sounds like "owe it to yourself". Changed a couple of words, still a few lines that remain unclear (italics):

What we've got so far:

GOING DOWN (Tommy Stinson)

I've known my share of pain
It's a crown of thorns
That never seems to break the skin
There's no lies in the scars

Just your broken fall

You used to be so sweet
You walked (woke) with a smile
(Life) tastes funny and the coffee's cold
Abuse (amuse) yourself, make it useful

Pre-chorus:
You got nothing good to say
Keep your mouth shut
Nothing good to do
Do it to yourself
Nothing's ever good enough for you

Chorus:
Sick of everything that you say
As you're going down
Sorry for everything
Sick of everything that you do
As you're going down
You look like a fool
You never mean to hurt no one
That just happens to be there next to you
As you're going down

I know this dark place
I heard these words
On the tip of a million tongues (a million times)
I heard them yelled

I even heard them sung

Get into your car and drive
Just as fast as you can
You had your 15 minutes
You tried to take an hour but
Now no one, hears your call

Pre-chorus

Chorus X 2

As you're going down
You're going down

As you're going down
You're going down

Nothing's good enough for you

I think tommy wrote this for Axl, He has been in the band the longest and they are probably best mates. I think its about management and the record label, Basically Tommy wants guns to be something great but the studio time keeps ticking over. And tommy shares Axls pain about what GnR could have been. Ashtays full , Coffes cold is probably about wasted studio time and "goons who say make it useful" are record execs. We got nothin good to say is about theyre self esteem at being treated like shit, The chorus is about the band telling the label that they are fucked either way cos trends set the way.

I know of this shared pain

Its your crown of thorns

Never seems to break the skin as (we) look up to the stars

And Just your broken fall

You used to be so sweet

You walked with a smile

The ashtrays full, The coffees cold

The goons who say, make it useful.

We got nothin good to say

keep your mouth shut

nothing good to do...

Going Down

T. Stinson/A. Rose (?)

I've known my share of pain

It's a crown of thorns

That never seems to break the skin

There's no blood in the scars

Just your broken faith

You used to be so sweet

You woke with a smile

Life tastes funny and the coffee's cold

Amuse yourself, make it useful

Pre-chorus:

You got nothing good to say

Keep your mouth shut

Nothing good to do

Do it to yourself

Nothing's ever good enough for you

Chorus:

Sick of everything that you say

As you're going down

Sorry for everything

Sick of everything that you do

As you're going down

You look like a fool

You never mean to hurt no one

That just happens to be there next to you

As you're going down

I know this dark place

I heard these words

Heard them from familiar tongues

I heard them yelled

I even heard them sung

Get into your car and drive

Just as fast as you can

You had your 15 minutes

You tried to take an hour but

Now no one, hears your call

Pre-chorus

Chorus X 2

As you're going down

You're going down

As you're going down

You're going down

Nothing's good enough for you

I think the first set is a lot more accurate.

The first line at least sounds a lot more like the "The world is shaking."

And there's no way it's "on the tip of a million tongues." I haven't even heard it as "a million." Sounds to me something like "You've heard these on familiar terms." Also thinking it's "Ya've" and not I've at the start of all those lines.

The world is shaking

To find out why we never seem to make love to the stars

And miss you baby

We used to be so sweet

Walk with a smile

The taste is sour the cup is cold

Use this thing to make so good

RISE

You've got nothing good to say

Keep your mouth shut

Nothing good to do

Mirror talks to you

Nothing's ever good enough for you

CHORUS

Sick of everything you say as you're goin' down

Sorry for everything

Sick of everything that you do as your going down

Look like a fool

Never Meant to hurt noone

just happened to be there next to you

As you were going down

I know this dark place

I heard these words

I've heard them a million times before

I've heard them yelled I've even heard them sung

Get into your car and drive just as fast as you can

You had your 15 minutes you tried to take an hour

Now Noone needs your call

REPEAT RISE

REPEAT CHORUS

As you're goin' down

As you're goin' down

goin' down

BUMBLEFOOT SOLO

CHORUS

As you were goin down, goin down (x4)

Nothings good enough for you.

Lyrics may be slightly off.

Slightly?

I do now think it's "ashtray's full and the coffee's cold". Saw someone post that a few weeks ago and it makes sense.

As for "tongues," something's off there, may be a rough cut and paste job. You just can't make it out. Still think it could be "on the tip of a million tongues", could also be something like "on the tip of familiar tongues".

As for the first line, someone posted lyrics somewhere with "I've known this shade of grey", which is possible, however I still lean more to "I've known my share of pain".

I posted that in a hurry after hearing the song maybe 3 or 4 times on crappy head phones. Gimme a break. :max:

Anyway, after a few months, this is what I think they are.

The world is shaking

It's a crown of thorns

Never seems to break the skin

No blood in the scars

And just your broken faith

We used to be so sweet

Walk with a smile

The ashtrays full the coffees cold

Abuse yourself

Make it look so

You've got nothing good to say

Keep your mouth shut

Nothing good to do

Keep it to yourself

Nothings ever good enough for you

Sick of everything you say as you're going down

Sorry for everything

Sick of everything you do as you're going down

Look like a fool

Never meant to hurt noone

They just happened

To be there next to you

As you're going down

I know this dark place

I've heard these words

I've heard them on over a million toungues

I've heard them yelled

I've even heard the sung

Get into your car and drive

just as fast as you can

You've had your 15 minutes

You tried to take an hour

Now noone needs your call

And, the rest is pretty simple. This will probably be debatable until GnR finally officially releases the song, and even then if the booklet is anywhere near as bad as the CD one was, then the debate will continue.

Never ceases to amaze me how people write out lyrics that are grammatically wrong and just make no sense at all.

Here are the lyrics about 99% accurate give or take a word:

i know this shade of grey
its a crown of thorns
never seems to break the skin
there's no blood or scars
just your broken faith

you used to be so sweet

you walked with a smile
ashtray's full and the coffee's cold
recuse yourself
make it look so..

you've got noting good to say
keep your mouth shut
nothing good to do
do it to yourself
cause nothing's ever good enough for you

i'm, sick of everything you say
as you're going down
sorry for everything

sick of everything that you do
as you're going down
looking like a fool

and you never mean to hurt no one
they just happen to be there next to you
you're going down
(as you're going down)

i know this dark place
i've heard these words
i've heard them coming from familiar tongues
i've heard them yelled
i've even head them sung

get into your car and drive
just as fast as you can
you had your 15 minutes
you tried to take an hour
now no one hears you call
