axlsalinger
The chorus sounds to me like he's saying "as you're going down" rather than "it's going down".Yep, I changed that already in the lyrics near the top of the first page for the last line of the chorus. For the rest it's debateable. Edited August 20, 2013 by axlsalinger
Gia
You never mean to hurt no oneThey just happen to be there next to you'Cause you're going downI thought it was I never meant to hurt anyone, I just happen to there next to you ?
axlsalinger
I think it's "You never mean to hurt no one, they just happen to be there next to you, as you're going down". He could be saying this person doesn't intentionally set out to hurt others but ends up taking them down with him/her. But I think it's more sarcastic, as in you may not set out to hurt people, but because they're close to you, they end up going down with you and you don't care enough to change your behaviour. He's pretty sarcastic throughout the song, so we may basically be saying the same thing:I think it's "You never mean to hurt no one, they just happen to be there next to you, as you're going down". He could be saying this person doesn't intentionally set out to hurt others but ends up taking them down with him/her. Gia
I think we are saying the same but it's just specifics I guess..I'm saying "I"while you are saying "they"I'm listening to the song right now, and it really does sound more like I (But that's just my opinion )Thanks for the rest of the lyrics
HOOSIER GUNZ
Who did "Tommy" write this song about?
axlsalinger
Pretty sure it's "as you're going down" throughout, as somebody mentioned. It could be "I" instead of "they", a couple are hard to tell but there's one that definitely sounds like "they" or "that" to me. It would make lyrical sense to say "they" in an early verse, and "I" in the last verse, so it could be both. I wonder if it is "do it to yourself". The last one sounds like "owe it to yourself". Changed a couple of words, still a few lines that remain unclear (italics):What we've got so far:GOING DOWN (Tommy Stinson)I've known my share of painIt's a crown of thornsThat never seems to break the skinThere's no lies in the scarsJust your broken fallYou used to be so sweetYou walked (woke) with a smile(Life) tastes funny and the coffee's coldAbuse (amuse) yourself, make it usefulPre-chorus:You got nothing good to sayKeep your mouth shutNothing good to doDo it to yourselfNothing's ever good enough for youChorus:Sick of everything that you sayAs you're going downSorry for everythingSick of everything that you doAs you're going downYou look like a foolYou never mean to hurt no oneThat just happens to be there next to youAs you're going downI know this dark placeI heard these wordsOn the tip of a million tongues (a million times)I heard them yelledI even heard them sungGet into your car and driveJust as fast as you canYou had your 15 minutesYou tried to take an hour butNow no one, hears your callPre-chorusChorus X 2As you're going downYou're going downAs you're going downYou're going downNothing's good enough for you Edited August 21, 2013 by axlsalinger

megaguns1982
I think tommy wrote this for Axl, He has been in the band the longest and they are probably best mates. I think its about management and the record label, Basically Tommy wants guns to be something great but the studio time keeps ticking over. And tommy shares Axls pain about what GnR could have been. Ashtays full , Coffes cold is probably about wasted studio time and "goons who say make it useful" are record execs. We got nothin good to say is about theyre self esteem at being treated like shit, The chorus is about the band telling the label that they are fucked either way cos trends set the way.I know of this shared painIts your crown of thornsNever seems to break the skin as (we) look up to the starsAnd Just your broken fallYou used to be so sweetYou walked with a smileThe ashtrays full, The coffees coldThe goons who say, make it useful. We got nothin good to saykeep your mouth shutnothing good to do... Flayer
I think the first set is a lot more accurate. The first line at least sounds a lot more like the "The world is shaking."And there's no way it's "on the tip of a million tongues." I haven't even heard it as "a million." Sounds to me something like "You've heard these on familiar terms." Also thinking it's "Ya've" and not I've at the start of all those lines. axlsalinger
I do now think it's "ashtray's full and the coffee's cold". Saw someone post that a few weeks ago and it makes sense. As for "tongues," something's off there, may be a rough cut and paste job. You just can't make it out. Still think it could be "on the tip of a million tongues", could also be something like "on the tip of familiar tongues".As for the first line, someone posted lyrics somewhere with "I've known this shade of grey", which is possible, however I still lean more to "I've known my share of pain". This will probably be debatable until GnR finally officially releases the song, and even then if the booklet is anywhere near as bad as the CD one was, then the debate will continue.
