Lio
He's not telling. Did you miss that? He was obviously bribed with an admin position.(j/k, of course, Downzy!)lukepowell1988: Five years ago this day, Downzy partied with Axl Rose and he was supposed to tell us the story today. Alas. Popular Post downzy
Wow, didn't realize it was the 28th already. So here's the deal, yes, I partied with Axl and other members of GNR after the concert in Toronto. And yes, I did promise to tell my story five years from the date of it happening. Two reasons why I decided to do that was because a) everyone was really cool to me and I didn't want to run home and "dish" on everyone and everything; b) the kid from Europe had recently posted his story and I didn't want to try to upstage him or anyone else who happened to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So that was my thinking about it at the time. But here's the thing, as an admin of this forum I don't feel it's appropriate to tell the tale in full detail. Why? Those who have heard the story understands why. It just wouldn't be appropriate or respectful. No, no one "bought me off," as I'm fairly certain no one in GNR or management has the slightest clue who the hell I am and have forgotten all about me (it was five years ago and I was just some random dude who partied with them for one night). This forum still has ties to the band and management and I wouldn't want to hurt those ties by transcribing my fifteen to twenty minute story (that's the average run-time when I explain it in person). Full disclosure: Subs asked me first to be a mod back late August, and at the time I told him the particulars of the story and that I had planned on sharing it with the forum. But I told him that if I were to become a mod, such a story might cause problems for him and his connections with the band. He agreed after I told him a very short version of the story but he still left the decision up to me. And having been a mod and then an admin for the past five months, I'm more confident that my decision to withhold all the details is the correct one. But to avoid leaving you all with nothing, the sanitized version is this: a friend of mine managed a supper club where GNR had requested to use as their after-party destination. She owed me a favour and knowing that I was a huge GNR fan, she agreed to let the band party there (this was a huge favour on her part, as it meant she had to come back extra early to setup the bar/club for the brunch crowd and there was a ton of cleanup). I wasn't automatically let in, but I'll save the details on how all of that happened for another time. Six months previous to this night I was singing karaoke and met a dude who claimed to be good friends with Sebastian Bach. So when Baz walked in and started hanging out at Axl's table, I initiated conversation in the hopes that the guy I met six months previous wasn't full of shit (he wasn't, Baz was friends with the guy). I then proceeded to stand at Axl's table listening to the guy for several hours while talking to a lot of great people. Nobody asked me who I was, no one demanded that I leave. Eventually security asked that everyone leave (there were about 50-70 people there) and that they had set up something for Axl and a few other people in a club that was situated directly below the one we were in at the time. Next thing I know I'm in a room with Axl, Tommy, Vanessa, Fernando and maybe five or six other people where the good times continued until 8:00 the next morning. There's a lot more to the story but like I said, I don't feel comfortable with sharing all the details (for privacy and security concerns and to respect those who were there). I didn't get any info on new music or GNR's plans, so don't think I'm withholding on that front. I'm just another GNR fan who happened to be at the right place at the right time and was graciously included in a private party. My friends often liken my story to the movie "Almost Famous," but sadly that's perhaps a tad exaggeration as I don't recall getting to sleep with any groupies. Anyway, going to lock the thread as I won't be answering questions on this. I've moved this thread to Support as I feel like it has more to do with me than it does GNR (there's no GNR news to discuss from this post). I wasn't going to say anything about it but figured a very small run down of what happened wouldn't be inappropriate.
