"I don't think there are any singles on the record," Slash told Rolling Stone

Lol Slash was a liar!11111!!!

Yeah strange thing to say

An "opinion" isn't a lie though. It's his opinion.

Slash has proven to be utterly hopeless at picking singles so this quote would not surprise me...he'd have probably picked Get In the Ring.

Haha this is one criticism of Slash I wholeheartedly agree with

Sometimes you try to hard, bub.

What could possibly be wrong about my statement?

Slash said he didn't think the album had any singles.

A poster said that Slash was a liar because of that comment.

I pointed out that Slash wasn't lying, he was stating his opinion.

What is face-palm worthy about that?

I realize you need to bash Slash in every topic, but come on bub. Sometimes you try too hard to find dirt where there isn't any.

Leave the GIFS to people who actually know how to use them properly!!!!

Slash was just saying that the record has alot of great tunes but none that would work for radio or MTV today in terms of what they are playing. The stuff on UYI had 7-11 minute songs. Radio was more into 2-3 min songs.

Great article. Sounds similar to what NuGNR was facing in early 2000. The Illusions record was just better than CD though and that made the difference in how they were recieved. Also CD took much longer and came out in only one album. Illusions had a tour to back it up and plenty of good material on it. Also a band in their prime. People were anticipating CD like they were Illusions then, so the difference in sales and reception were simply the quality of the material.

Even in 2000 it would nt be received like UYI.

Not the same line up, instead of hype probably a backlash.

But it would have sold better than 2008, like 5 mil. The expectation from label was prob 20 mil.

But it's funny how so many elements are the same long wait, no singles, not making it on radio.

Nailed it with Slither though when no one in the band was impressed when he already had the riff and was really digging it himself. Slash said he played the riff for the rest of the band and said "check this out!" but the response was lukewarm. (not sure who thought it would be a good single though, maybe not Slash)

Edit: found it:

An example of this scenario is the first single and video from Illusion, a track called "Don't Cry." Written five years ago, the song appeared on Guns' first demo, back in 1986. This now-legendary tape also contained "Welcome To The Jungle," "Back Off Bitch" and "Anything Goes." In the club days, "Don't Cry" was a show-stopper. Kids were mesmerized by the intensity of Axl's lyrics as this intense ballad swirled off the stage. But a half-decade later, when the band finally decided to record the song for release, Axl reexamined the lyrics and decided they needed "updating." Somehow, there will be three versions of "Don't Cry" - the original demo version, an updated demo version, and the 1991 modernized edition with new lyrics, which will be the first single and video.

The vicious cycle :D

Its just every time I have an opinion about Slash, I get brought before the council of Slash defenders and browbeaten.
