Kittiara
Regarding Axl's hair, it looks to me like he's growing it. When you're growing your hair, you have to go through some awkward stages with it. I've had shorter hair in the past, and yeah, it's no fun trying to get it to a decent length again. It's going to look less than great at some points. Worth it in the end, though. Or so I hope, because right now I'm at a stage with my hair where it's curling in all the wrong directions. And trouble is, I can't keep getting it cut and layered over and over again, because that way it will never reach the length I want it to be! It wouldn't have worked within the style of the band or their music, but it might have been intriguing to see what he could have done if he'd done some goth stuff on his own. I'd love to see what he could do with, say, Bauhaus or Sisters of Mercy songs. He sounds great when he's down on that end of his register and I could see him really rocking the '92 version of "Temple of Love" or "When You Don't See Me."

I think he only did that Gothic kind of thing for the "It's so Easy video". Not sure if he was into music of that genre, this was a sado-maso idea he got for the video and also made Erin dress like that too.

I know that's where it was from - he didn't do it again; I just thought it was an interesting and not unpleasant style choice for him and I would have loved to see him explore more of that genre or do some of those songs (it's still not too late for the latter). There are some photos of him back in the day with a Bauhaus shirt and in an interview he said he was listening to The Cure, so he likes or is at least appreciative of some goth stuff. He did wear the biker hat quite often; Freddie Mercury liked biker hats too and we know Axl was a fan. Edited June 17, 2016 by stella

I don't know much about the 80's goth stuff, too young to remember because the only goth stuff I remember is post 2000's but I guess real goths get offended by that so I won't dig there.

I'm just guessing it's where he got the hat from - but it would make a lot of sense to me because he loved Freddie, and he did pick up fashion ideas from people he liked and admired (it's been said that he started wearing the bandanas after touring with The Cult; Ian Astbury was wearing them about two years beforehand). What goth music do you like or remember? The endless debates about what is goth and what isn't do get really tiresome, I agree. I was an 80s/90s kid (I am guessing we have a 10 year age difference or so) and even in the 90s there were these battles about what was authentic and what was not...there are people who will get into fistfights over whether The Cure or The Cult count (Cure yes IMHO; Cult up until Electric but not after, IMHO) and some of the bands seem to shy away from that label themselves. I dont think I like any goth music.. or.. I just dont know who's goth and who's not You say The Cure are goth so I guess I do like them but I don't know much about them. I have the Greatest Hits album and an acoustic one and that's all. Never heard The Cult, I know who they are but I couldn't name one song by them and then I dont know who else... My Bloody Valentine? Evanescence? I'm sorry, Im very ignorant with this type of music, hehe

I'm sorry, Im very ignorant with this type of music, hehe Haha, no worries. The Cult are weird, in a way - they have totally changed tracks a number of times and have gone through a lot of personnel changes, like GnR, and there are a lot of people who don't really like everything they've done but like one era or another. After Love they pretty much totally went hard rock and didn't look back. And coincidentally they also had a pretty contentious feud between their lead singer and guitarist, who wouldn't work together for IIRC ten years. I don't really like much of their stuff past Love, but that's a great album. They did a Ritz gig a few years before GnR that was also taped for MTV. I think GnR opened for them on the Electric tour, which was the first album where they'd totally changed their sound and moved to hard rock, away from what they'd done before. These are the two songs people usually talk about from the Love album. Their videos are incredibly bad IMHO so here are live performances. Ian Astbury (lead singer)'s tradmark is the tambourine; he usually throws a few of them into the audience during gigs, even now.

I was merely replying in kind to your statement about Axl "NEVER" wearing make up. I disagreed and since you were stating your opinion as fact, I went ahead and did the same with mine. And for the record, I think Axl with his natural look was gorgeous as well, but he was one of the few guys who could pull that glam look off and he rocked it. They're a bit too manly looking for that. Slash always looked best with minimal styling imo. Jeans or leather pants, no shirt and long curls flowing in the wind. The type of "gothic" thing I grew up with were bands like HIM. @-W.A.R- I like that picture as well, he's really cute there. But I'm always distracted by the little furry animal between his legs Anyway, I remembered some more of my favorite glammy Axl pictures. Look at how young and innocent Axl looks in this one!
