  1. It is about appropriateness. Adjusting the playlist to the current form. If he wants to do Back in Black, why didn’t he do it back in 2017, where he probably still could have reached the necessary rasp? (not like 2016, but still) Why now? Why not play low-vocals songs and insisting on stuff like Better instead? Nobody’s expecting a 30-year old Axl form, that’s a bullshit argument, but there should be some self-awareness, as somebody said above. That’s why people will always be complaining – cause he apparently doesn’t give a shit about logical choices and then we get corresponding results...

Axl could sing BIB with rasp if he wanted to but then it would pose two things

    1) Why would he risk losing his voice on 1 song, it's pretty common knowledge that he uses his clean voice to preserve it

    2) People would start questioning why he doesn't use Rasp on the Guns songs

So maybe the smart thing then would be to drop it (or not have brought it up at all) and play like Bad Obsession instead.

Casual casuals who just arrived from a different planet after 3000 years and never heard of music, let alone rock music, let alone GN’R? Don't worry, we accommodate for every and anyone over here at HTGTH!

Damn… am I the only one who thinks he sounds killer on Reckless Life from this show? I’m too scared to watch him butcher Back in Black tho

No, there was some rasp in Portugal, while this time there was none.

As for Back in Black... wow, what a difference from 2016 huh.

I sadly think you're right - I was hoping he could maybe find a way around it or address it in such a way that implies it's been resolved. I'm dying to read it though. Less because of the original band fallout and more for the CD era stories - it's a shame that so much will never be revealed. I tend to find too that while he remains silent on a lot, it casts him in a worse light than necessary. Then when he does speak out it adds a lot of clarity and he seems far more sensible. Just a shame if he never puts anything out - it's in my top three desired books to read.

Hey, hope dies last, and what do we know, maybe he will find a way around. Anything is possible if he thinks it through, maybe with some pro author to help out. Or - since they always boasted they liked doing things a different way - they could write it together (Axl + Slash), sort of looking at things from both perspectives, as wiser and older friends. Sky is the limit.

What happened between December '10 and October '11?

What happened between December '02 and May '06?

What the hell was going on in GNR world in November '08?

How pissed was the record company at Axl?

What exactly happened on December 6th, 2002 - the night of the Philly riot. I know he explained it and I believe him, but I still want to know more (I was there).

When will Axl write his autobiography and answer all of these questions?

What would have happened if Axl went solo with that band instead of using the name? How would things be different?

I think he’s answered your penultimate question (at the China Exchange interview). If he published something like this now, he would basically either have to lie / suppress his opinions or risk that *someone* will get pissed off. They have buried the hatchet, why would he try to ruin Slash’s public image now. It makes no sense, which is why I don’t expect anything like that to be published in the nearest years. Maybe when he’s like 75, when nobody gives a damn anymore, and after a bit of polishing, then maybe. Otherwise it would end up like Matt’s book, the one officially released as opposed to the leak, i.e. everything self-censored.
Would I like to read Axl’s autobiography? Fuck yeah, why even ask.

And ISE probably lubes Axl's voice and gets him warmed up vocally. I don't obviously know for sure, but I guess that could be one of the reasons they keep it as an opener.

According to Duff, Axl does 1.5-hour warm-ups and warm-downs before every single show. Whether we believe it or not, he definitely does some vocal exercise, so I don't think the needs an extra 3-minute song to lube up or whatever. But yeah, he's been known to generally have used first gigs of tour legs as public rehearsals, no doubts.

The thing about the setlist- yes it is repetitive but GN'R have so few songs. They aren't like other bands that can vary things up. They're already playing for around 3 hours with all their big hits included and a small bit of rotation on deeper cuts.

They essentially have 3 full albums from the classic era and Chinese.

This topic tends to be recurrent here. Yes, their catalogue is small. But there are still quite some songs left that could be played. But the main thing is: it’s about alternation. There are probably some 5 staples that will always be played – WTTJ, SCOM, PC, plus NR and KOHD (they’re not going anywhere, are they). Then also probably ISE and Brownstone will be played. Anything else can alternate. RQ or YCBM could alternate with something else. DC with Patience. There’s no reason to keep playing CD when it could be switched for a different song (Prostitute? Shackler?). There are songs on UYI and Lies (or at least Spaghetti, instead of those stale covers from NITL) which are not played. And if you mix it up like this, you keep the excitement and the element of surprise, as people won’t know what’s gonna be played that evening, yet the band doesn’t have to add anything new just to achieve this element. Include some covers and there you go with a fresh set that won’t get boring within a few months.
Even if they come up with something new (like now), it gets flat if it’s played round and round. No, I’m not asking for a completely different set without the basic staples, that’s not possible for a band like GN’R. But slightly more changes would do it. Do you remember the beginning of 2016? They kept adding/alternating songs, and we didn’t know what the hell would be each night’s surprise, while we (and the casuals) still got to hear the biggest hits. That’s what I’m talking about. But I guess they’re usually too lazy to do that. It is exciting now, but so was NITL when it started...

Edit: Plus, bands tend to stick with more rigid setlists when they release a new album and want the tracks to be heard, which is understandable. That is, however, not the case of Guns N' Roses, is it.

Well, there's not a whole lot on CD that's easy to sing. Almost every song bar the title track is crazy hard.

Be that as it may, Better is downright one of the most difficult ones. Shackler’s Revenge comes to mind. It’s the high rasp Axl would handle. Then again, maybe it’s too "NuGNR" for Slash to like, who knows. Then there are songs at the middle level / clean voice, like Catcher (not that I’d be too eager for them to include this one, though). Or there’s Prostitute, which would be cool to hear, and it’s not too difficult, just a few raspy moments at the end. But Better? That’s a clear struggle!

Thought Axl looked and sounded great. Was full of energy in the first part of the concert too. He’s clearly much more prepared going into this leg. Vocal off at times and clearly winded but overall a solid performance. Drop Coma and Better where he clearly struggles - drop Slither which adds nothing to the set list - and replace with a couple of easier deep cuts and it’s all good. KOHD needs to go too - never liked that song live. It’s rather listen to a mid tier song like Dust N Bones over that

Pretty much, yeah. I seriously wonder why he keeps insisting on playing Better, when it's clearly past its prime and contribution. Why not just pick something else from CD??

  11. TBH he sounded great on Reckless Life! There was a moment where it looked like the voice was collapsing, but after the solo not only did he come back but started to sing better and went to all the heights.

I hope we'll see more videos from the gig, You're Crazy in particular. Looks like playing the fast songs with high vocals is the way to go - that's where he can nail it. Great first gig. Better needs to fuck off, and Coma should alternate.

Also, people, please stop asking for Maddy and Seeker and Wichita and god knows what. They're not gonna play 40 songs, which means they'd have to drop the new stuff they're playing right now and revert to previous, boring setlists. Be glad they do something different now and stop bitching about missing songs, for Christ's sake.

We need some pro-shot from TV. Even if just one or two songs - but not the usual SCOM/NR etc.
