I noticed in the Swedish show thread people also said not to take the bad reviews seriously... :shrugs:

I'll translate the one you posted in a bit.

Btw I think Deepl.com is a better translator than Google, but maybe see for yourself, some may prefer Google.

REVIEWS: The Guns N’ Roses concert dragged the bottom of the falsely whining Axl

Going to a Guns N' Roses concert is like a lottery bet. You can rely on instrumental performances, but when it comes to the voice condition of frontman Axl Rose, we can only be surprised how he will do.

And it didn't work out in Letňany. Rumors of Axl's poor form had been going on for some time before the Prague concert, accompanied by recordings of performances at the Rock Sweden festival, in which Axl's desperate attempt at singing provoked an incredulous shaking of his head at best.

In Prague it was wall to wall. At times, Rose's singing was perfectly fine, at times his ears ached and he looked forward to being overwhelmed by the guitar solo. Or keyboard, bass, whatever. Just to stop the suffering. "I wanna hear you scream!" Axl shouted at Welcome To The Jungle. "We wanna hear you singing!" He called in response. Because this is exactly the stone he plowed almost exemplary.

What is true is that the duo duo Slash and Richard Fortus acted absolutely sovereignly, that Duff McKagan once again proved to be a great bass player, whose relaxed yet emphatic playing, in favor of the overall sound, forms an essential part of the unmistakable sound of Guns N’ Roses. Drummer Frank Ferrer, the reliably working keyboard section Dizzy Reed (the Prague concert fell on his birthday) and Melissa Reese also tried.

All their skill and effort was to culminate the moment the frontman grabs the microphone and spins his second-famous vocal circular saw. But there was little left of her. Here and there, Axl screamed as he had before, but more often he stumbled in an effort to at least consistently intonate, and he was often completely false and out.

Perhaps the worst was the songs from the (?) Last album Chinese Democracy. The title bar just whizzed around, Better Axl walled up completely, and Street Of Dreams didn't turn out much better. It was touching to watch the singer be out and Duff McKagan and Melissa Reese doing their best vocals to make sure it wasn't a complete fiasco.

One well-sung song - Dylan's Knockin 'On Heaven's Door - turned out quite acceptably - had two setbacks: Sweet Child O'Mine or November Rain, in which the vocals dropped out in places.

This has long been part of the Guns N’ Roses concert. As well as the fact that the performance, thanks to frequent several-minute breaks between songs, doesn't go down much. The fact that the band somehow doesn't deal much with the creation of new material, is confused about a possible new record and relies entirely on nostalgia after the times when the opulent two-album set Use Your Illusion reigned supreme for the charts.

On the other hand, the songs from him, and of course from his debut Appetite For Destruction, are so strong that you just like to succumb to them again, even though you prefer to play a studio vocal line in your head instead of the principal's desperate whining. And that even the devout Chinese Democracy brought some really strong songs that don't have to worry about the notorious and many times played hits.

Being a Guns N’ Roses fan is a full-time chore. One has to clarify a lot of things, regret a lot and tolerate a lot to enjoy the rock circus one hundred percent. In the end, the most pleasant finding for a person who likes to listen to them but doesn't live in a band from morning till night was that the concert started for a minute precisely and there was no tiring waiting for the master to finally get down to the plebs.

  3. I don’t really care, to be honest. He likes to improvise, and it’s not like we’re talking about Sweet Child here. If they play it again in Poland, he might take a whole different approach for all we know. I perceive the improvisation to be meant for those people there – it’s not like they’re recording it on a DVD or something.

I think in the world of Guns N' Roes where new music is such a rarity, we can still allow ourselves to be excited about the two new releases we got last year, and which are also testament to the band working on new music.

But isn't this subjective? You don't have to be excited. It's all good. We will still continue talking about the new album as the European tour continues, either because we get more news about new singles or because nothing happen and Slash's words didn't come to fruition.

    "New"

I didn't say anything about why he was banned. I'm simply stating an observation that now since he's been banned, I'm seeing a lot of comments from people using his exact opinion on what's going to happen next via new music

Which, nevertheless, doesn't mean he was right. We're still in the same situation: we don't know.

And let's not forget that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

when I consider the factors of current technology and Axl's distaste for the hassle that comes with a release, it's like what Merck once said about how we might get CD by it just appearing one day in music stores and the release of Absurd and HS digitally and performing it live without too much fuss reflects that approach and to me seems like in the best case scenario, Axl doesn't mind releasing chunks of his reworked CD ll with Slash and the order of the releases is simply dictated by which songs Axl wants to release first.

I believe Slash when he says he worked on a lot of songs. We can't speed up this annoying process or get brand new songs or get CD era tracks all at once which would have been ideal, but maybe Axl is not hell bent on proving anything anymore or sell copies with monumental promotion so he takes his sweet time and cand release a couple of tracks from his favorite project when he feels like it, making it less of a big deal and milking and linking it to live shows.

Axl seems to be happy and content so my guess is we'll eventually get the full reworked thing like Slash described but until each song is released, Axl can still not release it and no one will know about it which means it could take years for us to get the full album imo.

Yeah, maybe he wants to sort of dilute the pressure of the music world on what will basically be a follow-up to UYI in a way, so this may be the way to do it. But it still sucks, I think their output (and legacy) deserves something more...

I can totally see Slash and Duff liking and wanting to do Absurd. Plus, they knew Axl could sing it live maybe :D

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised either. But they still should have started with HS. Then again, given there was no promotion, no real video, no interviews or an album behind it, in short nothing, I guess it doesn’t matter. The first "return" music could have been big. Should have been. And that’s their story – what could have been, but wasn’t. "Wasted opportunity" should be the name of the new album, if there’s one. Every time I hear the beginning of Atlas Shrugged, I get these sentimental fantasies about that mysterious era 20 years ago, the expectations, the tons of material, the Axl the recluse, the bright future of what was to come... I don’t know, the beginning of this song somehow evokes these things in me. But Axl said no, I’ll keep messing with ya for another 15 years and then we’ll see. And now he’s essentially back at it again.

True - I probably just used my last like of the day on your comment... though in fairness he also posted with an aggressive, almost pathological need for people to admit he was right.

Which he was, of course, there clearly is no new material ready or near-ready for release; if anything existed they would have released that instead of a slightly reworked 20+ year-old joke song about maggots and stuff.

No, he wasn't. And there's nothing clear regarding GNR's shelf material. They allegedly used about 15 studios, we've heard the results from one.

Along those lines, when you think about the entirety of the CD recordings which includes material conceptualized long before the road to CD was even started, there’s a certain connotation attached to “Chinese Democracy”.

When the title first materialized, it just sounded like a prelude to something epic, something inherently magnificent. As the years passed and all sorts of track titles emerged, along with demos and concerts, false starts, false leads, CD grew to the status of mythical. It was something you may have envisioned was greater than the sum of all its parts.

Which brings me back to the problem I have with the album itself, it just doesn’t relate to the title or theme of the album. Especially if we are to believe there were tracks available that may (at least by title) have fit the theme of CD far better than what was released. I imagine a CD where we have The General, Cuban Skies, Oklahoma, Berlin, Ides of March. I wonder why we don’t?

Well it was supposed to be sort of a double album, so maybe the sequel would have had these tracks on it, along with HS. I wonder why he didn't release it back then.
