  1. This is the first Prague show (not counting the one in 1992) that I'm gonna skip.

  2. Beside the singing: He's real. Genuine. True. No bullshit. No money/attention whoring for fortune and fame. Doesn't roll over on command. One of the last true rock stars. Stubborn bastard, too. And there was a time when he ruled the music world. That doesn't just disappear.
When you do something truly and with passion and go public with it, it resonates with people on a level no money can buy.
Plus he’s a funny guy. E.g. I remember he concluded one of the 2009 shows with the words "From the bottom of our hearts and from the heart of our bottoms, good night."

It's all about expectations and perspective. If you expect the band to operate like most other bands then you are bound to be disappointed by the low output and idiocy decisions. If, on the other hand, you expect next to nothing, then all that comes along is good. I mean, we should know by now that GN'R is massively dysfunctional and operates in what can best be described as absurd ways. Getting two new songs is by GN'R standards, pretty amazing. But sure, people can go around and continue to be disappointed that the band is not operating like other bands. Some fans will never learn.

And there's nothing to defend here. It is not even our job to defend the band. They are not us.

You use this "disappointment" strawman and then basically tell people it’s their own folly, but that’s a logical fallacy. It is not about disappointment, which you keep attributing to people. It’s about frustration, meaning folks will naturally bitch about these things on an unofficial fan forum. One could hardly expect things to happen normally with this band, but it is absolutely natural to vent the fact that pretty much nothing at all is normal with this band.
Especially when they don’t even go by their own half-assed promises (a new album in 6 months etc. - plans changed, huh). Add the sub-par performances of Axl, the lack of any communication whatsoever, and you’ll arrive to a pretty understandable attitude of these fans. People don’t really count on anything, but if all they get is mostly bullshit for too long, they’ll naturally get pissed off.

Why would he play Prostitute instead of Better? Prostitute is one of the least popular songs from Chinese Democracy (unfortunately). And he certainly wouldn't sound raspy on it. So for people like the swedish reprter, it would be just another Mickey sounding song, except Better is one of the biggest hits from CD and Prostitute is one of the least popular songs from that album.

But this is a weird topic to even discuss cause it's so subjective. What counts as Mickey and what doesn't really depends on who you ask.

Does Walk All Over You sound like Mickey? It's clean and high pitched for sure. Does the 2022 version of Back in Black sound like Mickey? I don't know. He's screaming his ass off, so I don't think it's exactly the voice that people have traditionally called the Mickey voice.

So I don't even know what the bad sounding songs and the good sounding songs are supposed to be. What songs should be replaced with what? This is all so subjective that it shouldn't be surprising that Axl doesn't sing exactly the songs that you would want him to sing.

Least popular by what, Spotify? I don’t even use that shit.
No, he wouldn’t do it with rasp, since there’s originally no rasp in the first place, which is why I suggested this song. It sounds good as it is, plus include those few raspy seconds he’d sometimes do live at the end, and you have at least a great alternation, if not downright replacement. Better is better as a song, but not when it sounds like this (one of the worst, so why keep playing it if he struggles so much?).
Also, I don’t give a damn about a Swedish reporter; he was clearly biased and set to hate that performance in general. This is about us here talking.
I’m not getting into that tired old "mickey vs. clean voice". It doesn’t matter after all. It doesn't sound as it is supposed to, which is understandable with the age - and hence the need to reflect that in the setlist (which will get stale pretty soon anyway).
I don’t care which songs exactly he sings. WTTJ/SCOM/PC is what needs to be played every night, I suppose. Plus NR and KOHD will always be played, whether we like it or not. Anything else can alternate, whether on the basis of what was played the gig/week before or on the basis of Axl’s current form. Trouble is, they keep playing the same stuff, and we're so used to it that we think anything else is impossible. Not true, look at other bands.
But if he’s surrounded by yes-men only and Slash with Duff don’t give a shit, then I guess it’s hard to expect anything. And no, I’m not one of those ever-complaining negative Nellies, I just see how some of you keep arguing with this same old crap á la "You want some changes? Wait, so you actually want them to change everything? That’s ridiculous!"
Their catalogue may be small, but it's not that small, and we have every right to evaluate all this, especially when they currently come off as just a professional cold money machine, ever since 2018.

Did it ever occur to you, that to there ears there is nothing wrong with what they are hearing, you know those musically tuned ears of a musician. Maybe take a step back and see it from another perspective..

Justin Hawkins as a fellow musician and admire voiced his opinion and summarised things perfectly..Case solved..

Oh I’m all about seeing things from different perspectives, don’t worry about that. But it’s impossible not to hear Axl’s struggles in those songs if you actually take time and listen to them; maybe not live, but they have recordings. At least someone must have made and approved the Selects, no?

Better sounds pretty much the same as most of the other songs they play. Getting rid of one or two songs won't change anything.

If your solution is that they should replace most of their songs with something else, then what would the replacement songs be? Axl sings with a high voice on most of their material.

There's like Bad Obsession and what else? Down On the Farm maybe? Sure they can replace a couple of songs, but at the end of the day what would be the difference? As long as songs like WTTJ, SCOM, PC and NV have no rasp, people like the swedish reporter will say that Axl sounds terrible. Replacing Better with Bad Obsession won't change that.

Besides, when they release new material, I'm sure that there will be plenty of songs that Axl has sung with a high voice. Should those songs never be released or should those songs never be played live? Or should Axl re-record all the vocals and sing them with a low voice instead before they release them? I certainly hope that he doesn't re-record all the great raspy vocals with some low voice shit just to please some random people on the internet.

There may be some very minor things that Axl could do with the setlist, but overall these demands are pretty unrealistic. Even if he would bring back Bad Obsession and Down On The Farm, that wouldn't be a permanent solution. People would get bored with those songs quickly and they would start complaining about the setlist. So eventually they would have to replace those songs with something else again and they don't have many songs that can be sung with a low voice. Axl always sounded good on The Seeker, but tons of people wanted him to sing something else instead.

I didn't say most songs, I'm saying adjust the playlist to the current abilities as much as possible. BiB probably still could have been done in 2017, yet he waited for his 2022 form. Why? Why not play Prostitute instead of Better? People may get bored, but Guns keep playing the same songs anyway, so that's nothing new. It's not black or white, like either keep all or lose all.

I don't get this mentality. What exactly do you think is the solution? Axl can't get his old voice back. He won't have rasp in his voice no matter what he does, so what exactly are Slash and Duff supposed to say or do? What is Axl supposed to do?

Should they just quit? Is that the solution? There's tons of people who still want to see them live, so why should they quit just because some people have an issue with the fact that an old man can't sing like he used to.

Some people have suggested that they should replace difficult songs with songs that suit Axl's voice better. But they can't stop playing WTTJ, SCOM, PC, NR etc...

Some people have suggested that they should play the songs in a different key, but that won't change the rasp issue. As far as I can tell Axl can only really sing with rasp when he is using a low voice. You can't sing songs like WTTJ, SCOM, PC and NR with a low voice. You can maybe sing them with a mid voice, but that is raspless as well.

So I don't get this mentality. Do you just want GNR to quit? Do you want Axl to use playback and lipsync instead of using his real voice? Is that the solution? I feel like the simple solution would be to just stop going to the shows if you don't enjoy the performances. Nobody is forcing you to watch the shows.

Or are you just concerned about Axl's reputation? There's always going to be people like the swedish reporter. There's always going to be people like Justin Hawkins who appreciate the fact that an old man like Axl can still hit the notes. So I don't think you need to worry about Axl's reputation. If you don't like the performances don't go watch the shows. But let others enjoy it as long as GNR still exists.

Jesus Christ, nobody is asking them to stop playing Jungle, SCOM etc., there's nothing you can do about that. But the solution would be "Hey Axl, why the fuck do you keep insisting on doing songs like Better etc., when it's clearly a pain to do and listen to?" Case solved, but I suppose that takes balls.

I just got confirmation from Sebastian Bach,!I was drinking at a hotell bar (worktrip) n' all of a sudden Bach parks his ass next to me, lifts his hand and gestures with his hands that he want a whole bottle of Patron.

So after med being starstruck and acting like a dork, we shared the bottle.

The new song, will consists of remastered vocals from the old cassette Slash heard of Axl the first time, the vocals are AI separated so it is a pristine vocal stem track. That is Axls performance of this track. Then there are some unearthed takes of Slash laying down guitar tracks for "My World" (Slash was so high he forgot he ever actually laid down some tracks for the song). The tracks from Duff are from a late session before he left the band, he played some palm muted section for an early version of Cuban Skies that Axl actually had laying around since 1985.

Mellisa of course brings the meaty sound that is so very low in the mix.

Also Frank plays on the first bar, while Freese plays on the rest with a very intricate percussion part with Axl and Steven Adler plays in the last chorus.

Also Fortus play the jewharp all the song.

Fink and Bumblefoots parts are all intact.

DJ Asha provides a whammy bomb in the outdo.

You had me in the first half, ngl

  9. Since they’re deliberately obscure about everything (like it’s still 20 years ago), I wouldn’t have expected the new single(s) to drop or be played right at the beginning, just because the tour has started and it’s June, as per Slash’s words. They don’t work like that, do they. This would be too easy, too predictable, too compliant with what was... not promised, but vaguely outlined. The only let-down for me will be if the setlist keeps being the same again, which is quite likely.
The disturbing thing indeed is that nothing new is on the alt. playlist or has been soundchecked. Of course, it doesn’t have to be, they can rehearse it privately, as they know people listen and record outside, but still, it probably doesn’t bode too well for new songs to be played at any imminent shows.
