CD leftovers or all new songs
Sweersa replied to Gunner Gilby's topic in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
I just wish they would release what they have, Slash or Duff or not (preferably with Robin and Bucket) as an album(s) and then move on to making actual new music. -
Yes that’s the one! It had Tonto, Nothin, and Perhaps too, years before the Village leaks so it’s legit. From January 2008. Also had Catcher. Some songs floated between the first two albums. Also had Thyme, Atlas, The General, Cuban Skies, Monstrocity, TIL2, OMG2, Soul Monster, and more. Interestingly, Eye On You, Berlin/Oklahoma, Seven, Quick Song and State Of Grace were not listed. However, they may be there under different names or at the time been intended for CD1 or CD3 if not discarded altogether.

Someone should just ask Brain if those are his drums on Hard Skool. If they are his, he may not be able to tell based on the awful production. If they were indeed Frank’s drums, Brain may be offended if someone had to ask it was his playing. Haha Either way, the drums and guitars from the 2000 mix are superior IMO, I do like the extended vocals and Slash’s second part of the solo. It’s possible the parts taken from Eye On You were pulled and replaced with different vocals on that song, assuming they were placeholder before and then recycled for Hard Skool. I doubt they would discard Eye On You as it basically needs a little work to be ready for an official release.

Better is the song that got me into Guns N' Roses, before that, I just lumped them into being an old classic rock band with several hits, but I was far from a fan. It was only after hearing CD leaks in 2007, when I took a strong look at them, and their back catalog. As far as Slash and Axl being the "GN'R sound" Not to me, but I understand that perspective as those two are the most iconic members. As much as I hate saying it, the unreleased CD songs have to be dumbed down to fit that perspective. In time, I expect CD to age like the Star Wars prequels. They were appreciated decades after they were available.

While that is possible, I believe the 2000 mix of Hard Skool was much closer to whatever "final" CD era mix they had in 2014 (or whatever). I'm basing that assumption on that most of the other mixes from around that time that were included on the 2008 album were not changed vastly, at least not enough to be considered re-worked, and there was little or no need to, due to the lineup around the time the album dropped. I was actually thinking about how the 2008 mix of Jackie Chan aka Hardschool sounded. If I were a betting man, I'd say it was close to the 2000 mix, with the usual amount of additional or over production the rest of the album suffered from, but still had all of Robin's and whomever else's leads intact, Brain instead of Josh on drums, and perhaps a more elaborate introl so it just doesn't cut in from a guitar. I wonder if they had the extended/repeated chorus vocals in the end that the official version had.
