  1. I don't even have an Ipod. I'm stuck in the 70's. I have 100 cd changer in my house and I just hear the radio in the car and I have a 8 cd changer in the car that still has the same cds since 1994

Ha ! At least you aren't still listening to tapes. :)

So then the big question is - what CDs are in the car?

  2. Is it really true that Axl fucked Steven's girlfriend at the time in the studio, recorded it, and put it in Rocket Queen (it's what we can read in Wikipedia)? If that's true:

    1. What was Adler's reaction? Didn't he try to kill Axl?

    2. Is it true that that's the reason Steven sank into heroin?

    3. What was other's reaction (Izzy, Slash, Duff)? Didn't they censor Axl's behaviour?

    4. Was she hot?

A couple of years ago I went to a very small & intimate drum clinic with Steven. He was lovely to meet and chat with. Anyway, someone asked him about this very topic and he said he didn't care at all - he said he had many girlfriends and wasn't worried about this at all. :)

  3. Marc--

How does Axl feel about the old band's stuff--from AFD to TSI? I mean, yes, Axl plays them live, but from your experience, does he ever listen to the material sometimes, the old stuff? Does he enjoy it? If an old song were to come on the radio of his car or whatever, would he listen--How does that make him feel? We've seen him be very bitter about Slash and the past in public but are there any times, any memories of the old days that he looks back on with good feelings, with pride, in private? I mean surely he has to have some good feelings about a big chunk of his life, the period of his life that made him who he is today. Surely he has to have some fond memories of the old days and of the old band.

And secondly, how does Axl feel about the UYI albums nowadays? He seemed to be very proud of them around the time they came out, almost viewing them as the band's masterpiece, something better than AFD...What about now?

And what about you? I and everyone else tends to ask you about Axl or the band, but I genuinely want to hear your opinion on this, as you seem to be first and foremost a big rock fan, you love Zep (so do I!) and you know your shit...How do you feel about the UYIs?

I ask because I feel in terms of songwriting and whatnot, that was GN'R's peak. They're my favorite GN'R records. It showed how capable they were of doing great songs in almost every genre, it was basically their Physical Graffiti. I know everyone loves AFD and I do too but I view the UYIs as one of those great sets of albums which shows the full power and range of a band. It's the band's best statement and best expression of both of who they were as individuals and as a band, and the best showing of how talented each member was. It showed, IMO, that they were much more than some sleazy dirty Sunset Strip band. They could've easily made an AFD II and just become a band that did the same record over and over and been a 2 dimensional limited rock group--but the UYIs pushed them beyond that, and I don't think ANY of the old band has done anything as consistently great as those two records ever since. Every album by Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Gilby etc has it's awesome songs, awesome great moments...But IMO the consistency of quality hasn't been the same since the UYIs. That was ALL of their peak. I don't think Axl has written any song that can top Estranged; Slash hasn't written any song that can top Coma; Izzy's songs IMO none of them top his UYI stuff, etc.

I don't know how Axl feels anymore about any of those records. I would hope that he can still see the importance of AFD and I could see him having some remorse on how a few of the UYI songs could have been a bit different or maybe left of the record and used for a different project. I liked UYI and wish some of the songs were more of a team effort instead of recording a song and then forcing some lyrics and melodies to fit it. This was not a bad thing, it was just a bit different then the way they used to do it, by having the band ripping the song apart. I think because they all lived in different places in 1990,1991 is why things were different. In the old days songs didn't really have a chance of being written with out the whole band being involved because as they were coming up with ideas or riffs, someone else in the band was in the same room and they would build on it. However if i was in charge of the band when the record was coming out, this is how I would have handled the record. It would be one record with 12 singles with 12 B sides if I had to put all those songs out at once.

If these 12 songs in this order were on one record and then they put out a single for each song, everyone would buy the single to get the B side and the record would have been as big as AFD or bigger and they would have had lots of top 10 singles because of the sales to get the B sides. The rest of the songs save for a different project or the next record.

Dust N Bones --------B side 14 Years or the other way around

Perfect Crime ---------B side Back Off Bitch

Live And Let Die----- B side Bad Obsession

    Don't Cry ---------------B side Don't Cry ALT

Double Talkin Jive--- B side Right Next Door To Hell

November Rain ------ B side Dead Horse

Civil War --------------- B side So Fine

Pretty Tied Up ----------B side You Ain't The first

    Locomotive --------------B side The Garden

    Estranged ---------------B side Yesterdays

YCBM ---------------------B side Garden Of Eden

    Coma ---------------------B side Breakdown

    Total 75 minutes =

Great idea Marc, I always thought the same that if it were condensed into one regular album, or one double album it would have been as strong and successful as AFD.

Everyone would have their own different opinion but here's mine -

A fast song to kick off the album, maybe Perfect Crime.

Don't Damn Me and Bad Obsession definitely on the album and not as B-sides - they're great songs. Maybe even Dead Horse and Yesterday's too. But then again that might fuck with your concept too much? Maybe 14 songs with B-side singles ???

    Anyway, great idea. :)

  4. there goes the excuse of axl singing badly because he is nervous. even on rehearsals he sounds like crap sometimes.

Do you really think he is going to give it 100% in rehearsals? He's just going through the motions. Practicing the structure and timing with the band, that's all. He's not going to risk his voice by belting out a song.

    Don't be so fucking stupid.

  5. Also to Marc. I'll be in LA in a couple of months and I'd fucking love to buy a signed copy of Reckless Road and say hi if possible? :)

Just let me know when you get here and I will meet you at Canter's Deli.

    Marc

Dazey - your'e in for a treat ! Marc's an absolutely sensational Bloke and I cant thank him enough for my catch up with him at Canter's Deli. I still drool over my signed copy of RR and love wearing my Canter's Deli T-shirt :) Enjoy dude!

Oh, and Marc - Welcome to the Forum. We got Fun' n' Games... :)

  6. axl's voice.

This. And Axl's amazing lyrics and his all-encompassing Fuck-you-all Attitude!

It's a great topic & thread. Hard to summarize it completely. I think most people's responses are great and most definetly valid.

It has to be the blues-based hard rock foundations and multiple classic influences. The song structures including some phenomenal outros (as others have already mentioned). And last but not least Axl shagging a chick on RocketQueen.... :)

  7. Good thread!

I think if there's one song that summarizes the "GNR sound" in its entirety it's Locomotive. To me, it has everything that the OP listed. It's ambitious, epic, blues based but guitar driven, multilayered vocals and guitar, but also has a softer side as heard in the outro. To me, it's the epitome of a Axl and Slash collective work.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

    No Izzy. So not really.

    Cheers,

    Stop always signing your name.

Stop always being a Prick. Cheers, Scott...

  8. Threads being deleted here is a common thing or this only happens if a topic, theoretically, could annoy Axl? I'm just curious...

As far as I can see the threads deleted are personally attacking people in Axl's life which is uncalled for and quite rude. It would be similar to someone attacking your family and friends, calling them names plus posting photos of them on here to make sure everyone knows who they are.

They serve no purpose plus, don't know how much the gnr people see these posts or how the law works in the USA, they could get so sick and tired of seeing these posts and have the whole site shut down.

Well said. Too many disrespectful ignorant wankers on here getting away with shit. Delete threads and ban the dickheads.

  9. 1. Someone who wears trendier clothes than you do.

Example: Kid A calls Kid B a hipster for wearing plaid, chucks, and a beanie

Kid B calls Kid C a hipster for wearing moccasins, strange glasses, and a deep v-neck shirt

    2. Then you apply this to giving off a vibe of stuck-up-ness - when compared to you.

Example: Kid A calls Kid B a hipster for listening to music

he hasn't heard of and not being into football

Kid B calls Kid C a hipster for playing a moog synth, hanging out in coffee shops with a laptop and scoffing at bands like Metallica

    It's a silly word.

Ok, thanks. I got it - I think??? I'll just substitute the word Hipster for Arsehole or Wanker...

  10. Sucks is too strong of a word. Sucks? No. Boring? Absolutely.

Yeah, you're right. It doesn't exactly suck. But it does suck having had to wait 15 years for an album that's just ok. :rofl-lol:

Especially when you had everyone close to the band calling it a masterpiece and saying it "rocks." It is definitely not a masterpiece and I'll take what Bach and the others say with a grain of salt from now on.

What is the band gonna say anyway? They're not gonna say Hey Axl, you made your fans wait 15 years for this? :rofl-lol:

Truth is I'm listening to Slash's eponymous album as I'm writing this, and man... it's 1000000 times better than CD. Catchy and with great hooks and solos  Someone should learn a thing or two

Yep Axl needs to learn a thing or two about putting out a mind-numbing boring stock standard Hard Rock album. I'm listening to Slash's latest and sadly that is just what it is. Unimaginative to say the least. But I'm Sorry for you, Not Sorry for me...

  11. 4 CD songs in a row with Tommy and Dizzy solos sandwiched in the middle = one patient audience!

I'd be just fine with it. An average concert goer? I wouldn't blame them for being a little annoyed right around the 3rd minute of "Baba O'Riley".

I don't know, Better and Shacklers always seem to get great reception from the audience.

Anyone who goes to a GnR concert and doesn't appreciate the privilege that is Shackler's does not deserve to be there...

    I agree.

  12. Nice thread. Positive for a change.

I've seen many live shows for a couple of decades. Over just the past five years I've seen Slayer many times, Slash many times, Metallica many times, Chilli Peppers, Anthrax, Janes Addiction, Faith No More, Iron Maiden, Chris Cornell, blah blah blah, the list goes on and on. In the past five years I've seen GnR in 07' and 2010 and they were absolutely the best of the bunch. And no, it's not just coz' I'm a big Axl fan.

GnR would be bigger on a global scale but unfortunately people can't seem to let go of the past...

  13. 2nd clip is a lot better then the first. Thought Axl sounded perfect at the start of the song, and pretty good though out the rest. Izzy, as stated earlier obviously spends his time in a cryogenic chamber. Other then a few flubbed lines when figuring out what verse they were on I thought the performance was really good. Just brings a smile to see these two standing at the same mic together. A little odd

though that Axl is fond enough of this song to add to the set list, seeing as how the lyrics are almost entirely about him in a negative sense. According to Marc Canter at least.

I'm not sure if you have that right. I don't think Marc ever said that. Possibly that the song is about some of Izzy's family members that wanted nothing to do with him - until he was famous... I could be wrong , does anybody out there have any other ideas???
