I don't post that much anymore in forums, I actually had to log in and create an account to write this because of how nice Jarmo has been to me..Am a big fan but the boards don't run my life as I got tired of fighting with some "know it alls" on another forum..I definitely miss the news, the leaks etc, but I am 42 now and frankly GNR is my favorite band ever and will always be, but they don't exactly dominate my life anymore..I will see every tour that is close and buy a lot of shit, so financially they have me, but I don't rush to the boards to find out if there are leaks, even though I am dying to hear them..
That being said, I met up with Jarmo in Camden in November (we had "met" online like in the 90s and in person once before in Baltimore like 2006 maybe)..I spoke to Jarmo about his role and I hope I am not violating any confidentiality by saying it, but I think Jarmo sells himself a little short when he relays what his role is..
Clearly he isn't being "given tickets" to get into the show..He travels on the bus and has a laminated backstage pass and stays at their hotels, watches every show from the side of the stage as well..That being said, he works before and after the show so it's not like when Axl and the boys are chilling at the hotel Jarmo is pounding Beluga Caviar and doing shots of Patron..
Being that I am old, when I went backstage (he got 3 of my friends to the meet and greet), I am not as in awe of rockers as I was when I was 20, so I spent a good portion of the time just talking to Jarmo..He said he is just a poor student that is a jack of all trades for the band and gets to just see the shows live..I don't know if he is paid or not, if he is, I don't think it is a hundred grand..I get the impression he just doesn't have to spend any money to see the shows, to travel or to eat..
He is living a dream and say what you want about his site, he is a pretty decent fellow to talk to in the times that I have met up with him..
On a side note, there are not 2 rockers I have met in the world (and I have met a lot) as kind as DJ Ashba or Bumblefoot..Each of them came up to us and spoke to us at length as if they knew us for years..VERY impressed..
Good on you for sticking up for him. He sounds like a decent Bloke.
He obviously loves Axl & GnR - absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's like sticking by your favourite football team. You take the good with the bad and stick by them through the good times and the bad. From what you said he sounds like a loyal and hard worker. You don't like his forum - don't go there.
Personally I would give my middle testicle to do his job for GnR !

ill seeya back on negative boulevard in 73 hours then :xmassrudolph:
Fuck you Skippy!
Dude that was crossing the line. Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was a national treasure. He saved many human lives in his humble life. You can call us England's convicts, say we have funny accents, even call our Prime Minister a bitch - but I won't put up with disrespecting Skippy.!
-
Of course this is true. They put on a brilliant show if you're lucky enough to be able to get to one. Hundreds of Thousands of people have enjoyed GnR recently - the greatest live rock band on the planet. If they ever release a new album then Millions of people would be able to enjoy that too. Patience my young Padawan...

Screen just goes blank after it loads, and I can't order it. I hope they get that fixed!
I have the same problem...

Received my two Tshirts today, would have been cool if they had a female style instead of just the youth/man standard one.
You got two tshirts???
-
Bunch of whiners.
Be happy that they're actually touring and that this isn't the
silent years from 2003 - 2005.
This. So few bands mix up their setlist at all, so there's no reason to complain over that.
Hell, 2003-2005 was a cake walk. Try being a 14-16 year
old kid in 1994 and your favourite band said they were going on a short hiatus and would soon be back with a new album.
Anyone thinking 2003-2005 was a bleak period obviously
did not live through the devastation of 1994-2001 (with the brief moment of hope when "Oh My God" was released).
Cheers,
Andrew
Ha ! Well said dude. I was 21 at the time when GnR went missing and imploded. I entered a deep clinical depression soon after !!!

Enjoy the show all you lucky buggers!

Karma works in mysterious ways and you meeting Axl is her way of repaying you for your kindness in picking up the merch for the members
Exactly what I was thinking Teejay ! And don't worry SLAA - you look fine to me :0

Not like people here set themselves up for a disappointment or anything...
Ha! It happens all the time. I'm hoping for Axl to announce that the follow-up to CD , a double album with DVD, will be released this Monday...

The two times I've seen Slash & Myles lately - crowd about 1500 each time. last time I saw Axl live in Sydney 2010 - crowd 61,500. That's Sixty One Thousand and Five Hundred people to watch him & GnR.
Exactly
I can be mistaken but that wasn't a festival, was it?
No not a festival. I will concede that it was affiliated with another event - the V8 car race at the same venue, but it was shitty rainy weather and 61,500 people went to see a brilliant show from GnR.
The fact is that both are unbelievably amazing musicians and phenomenal contributors to the Hard-Rock musical landscape. Like I've said before - they both can do whatever makes them happy. Even Adler's entitled to play AFDC songs - it was a group effort...

if slash has put out six albums in the time that axl has released one, shouldn't appetite songs make up a smaller percentage of his set than GNR's set?
Fair point...
Where's the fair point? So he shouldn't be playing songs he wrote and/or co-wrote with other musicians while in Guns? He's playing his whole catalog and using songs that he thinks Myles can do justice (whether you like it or not).

I'm not talking just about Appetite, I'm talking about the whole heyday. The whole nine; Appetite, Lies, and the UYIs. Axl milks the glory days with Slash way more than Slash does now. Fact.
When Axl starts playing just 5 songs to relive the glory days, and 15 songs from his post classic band career, than we can start talking apples and apples.
He would NEVER do that. Otherwise he would be playing in front of 300 persons at max.

Did you read my post?
Yes. It was kind of ridiculous.
-
Wicked. That was cool.
Ashba is a godsend to this band. Dude was exactly what they needed post-Finck (and post-Slash, really) and has been nothing but aces. If I had a stitched-up top hat handy, I would surely tip it--
Well said - Fuckin love DJ. He and Ron are class acts !

I've seen Slash & Myles live twice in the last couple of years - both times amazing. Slash can do whatever he wants. As can Axl - including carrying on with the band that HE created...

Have fun everyone attending!

Can I please get one tour programme and one each of the Axl poster and Band pictures poster?
Thank you
Oh, and have a bloody good time!

I moved back for pc, was my 11th show so had a good idea where it go.
"Shure beta 58a" mic if anyone wants to know the model.
£150 online but the setimental value is beyond.
Dude - i want to know EXACTLY where you stood for future reference! I want it in distance from the front rail (to the exact centimeter) and the direction of the throw! Also the height and the fuckin' curvature of radius of the throw! Then we here on this forum can calculate the spot on the floor that has the highest probability of being the G-Spot to catch Axl's mic. Ok! I'm counting on you dude.
-
Thats very nice of you to offer this SLAA. Very kind indeed.
-
Caught the mic tonight, look out for my front row pics tomorrow.
Axl fractured shoulder, torn legiment from previous ingury had an mri in newcastle. Great show,
Fantastic - would be just about everyone on here's dream to catch that friggin' mic ! What a cracker of a souvenier - well done dude

Thanks to all you Pommy bastards for your input & reviews! From an Aussie Bastard.

Guys, official thread first up.
Second, my hometown gig (GNR have only played there once before, you may recall some twat kept on throwing coins and Axl walked after Nightrain), 2006. Anyway, problem with my Iphone and I cant update, dont want get get slaughted in terms of "OMGAWD, New adman not updating!!!" Anyone who can do updates?
If not, my mates phone will be stolen before the concert
Don't worry about updates - seriously - its not like it is a live football game and people are keen to know the score. The emphasis on setlist updates are not necessary. While I
must admit I do often follow them and appreciate people's efforts and especially their own personal reviews of the show I reckon just go and have a fuckin' good time mate!
-
They didn't play Madagascar??!? Sorry, but that song deserves to be in the setlist as much as anything. Great to see TWAT thrown back in, though.
Agreed Dude. Madagascar if brilliant - the equal of TWAT. Anyway, so many great songs for a setlist and its hard to fit em' all in. Cant please everyone im afraid!
-
Its an amazing song - a Guns classic in my opinion. Good on ya Axl for having faith in your CD songs!
