  1. Yeah, they're a product of their time and if Axl said that he thinks they're stupid or corny, I think that he's being stupid. I thought the videos were very important to Axl at the time and then to say almost 20 years later: Meh, they were corny...

Because of this thread I just watched some videos again from that time: George Michael's supermodel videos, Aerosmith's Alicia Silverstone's videos, the Beastie Boys' Fight for your Right... What a trip down memory lane...

  2. Really? damn... when I started listening to GN'R in spring 2004 I scraped up all the money I could get (Being a normal 13 year old) and brought Welcome To The Videos... I watched that fucking dvd every day for about 3 months haha :P

Some videos are a little corny.. I don't really like SIDHY.. but The Garden video is immense! I don't know how any GNR fan can't like that one :P

Another Edit...: The video for Mr Brownstone is awesome too :D

I rarely watch them now, but I've literally watched WTTJ, DC, NR, SCOM, PC, Patience, LALD thousands of times, in 1991, 1992. I used to have them all on VCR and would watch them all day long... If I watch them now, it's kind of creepy, because after more than 20 years, I still remember almost every frame, every move and glance of them. Estranged I didn't watch so much, Since I Don't Have You I thought was lame. I still enjoy the videos when I see them, but maybe that's a generation thing, and they were such a huge part of my life then, it's nice to revisit that now.

Have you seen the video for LALD ? Maybe you'd enjoy that more, if you liked the Better video... That's a great video as well, I think.

The Garden one was pretty cool, but I didn't like the song itself enough to sit all the way through. Same with LALD, one of those songs I think worked much better live than on the album (and one I think the nuBand does better than the old).

I bought the Garden of Eden VHS a few years back because I saw it in a charity shop for £3. Never watched it and I don't even know if I own it any more, may have donated it back to the same charity shop!

But yeah, overall, I find them pretty corny. YCBM isn't bad, the last bit is fun in a cheesy way, but it's not on Welcome to the Videos because of the Terminator footage.

Yeah, I think it was a different time back then. We had no internet, no YouTube, so we just watched MTV all day (and night). Like I said (edited previous post), I don't particularly like LALD on the album, but the video made me like the song more, because of the concert footage.

  4. Slash might have done you a favour there, by denying you the opportunity of listening to William Bailey's painful vocals.

If everyone gets the right to listen to Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, One Direction etc, I want the right to listen to William Bailey! Equal rights for all!

  5. So, do we have a (any reliable) source that Slash is blocking the DVD? Or just rumors?

I am curious to this as well

So, do we have a (any reliable) source that Slash is blocking the DVD? Or just rumors?

LOL dude, don't you know that everything negative that happens to Axl and his version can be traced back to Slash somehow?

    Everything is always Slash's fault.

To be a real Axl fan.........we must hate Slash.

UK Subs reported yesterday that he has two sources saying that Slash is blocking the release because (a) he doesn't get enough money, or (b) just to spite Axl. And, no, Groghan, I don't think UK Subs is an Axl-nutter/Slash-hater or whatever.

And like I already said.............even if that is true, we have no idea what the numbers are - so automatically speculating that Slash is evil is just wrong.

    But I'll do it again.

    Slash wants more money.

That statement has a different meaning depending on how much money Axl offered him.

If Axl offered Slash an amount that is 90% lower than the industry standard - then Slash isn't the dick, Axl is.

If Axl offered Slash an amount that was more than the industry standard - but Slash is wanting more just to spite Axl - then Slash is the dick.

If Axl has made Slash's financial life miserable in the past - say he blocked songs from being used on Slash's dvd, he called Slash a cancer, and we have no idea what has went on behind the scenes. Maybe this was Slash's chance to finally give Axl a taste of his own medicine. Maybe Beta presented Slash a contract that was a lower amount than what the two had already agreed on.

The fact is that NONE of us know the true story.

So to automatically blame Slash for all this and to portray him as a evil, lying, cheating, sleezy dude who portrays himself one way but behind the scenes is a true rat........is just idiotic. And that's what several people on here are doing. It's funny, the same people who always whine and moan about those who make assumptions about Axl and Beta, are the FIRST ones to do the same things about Slash.

I think we all should wait until we hear the actual facts before we start blaming people.

Daedalus and WhazUp asked it it was true that Slash was blocking the release. No one in this conversation (Daedalus, WhazUp or me) speculated that Slash was evil or said that we hated Slash.

  7. again with this bipolar shit? Axl took the time to explain that shit to us in 2008, why do we keep to discussing that shit? We don't believe in the guy who actually it's the only one who can tell us the truth on that kind of info?

Axl ADMITTED he was diagnosed Bipolar/Manic depressive in earlier interviews. But of course you can't stand for the truth to come out so you can keep pointing fingers at Axl for his bipolar symptoms. Blame the disease, not the person.

The truth? If Axl doesn't know the truth then you lost me right there. We have to search the chats from 2008 to shut you fingers? Really?

I already looked that up. (Previous page or so...) :shrugs:

  8. The thing is there's no blood test for being bipolar, so Axl backtracking on his admittance that he was professionally diagnosed is all he can do at this point.

OJ admitted he murdered his wife while being chased by police, but his lawyer had the audio recording thrown out as evidence. Doesn't mean he didn't do it!

People with money can have their lawyers change the meaning of words to hide the truth.

I only put in this quote because truadmirer is going on about FACTS and the truth that he's proved. I don't know if Axl is bipolar or not and I don't really care. But don't go on about facts if you base part of your case on the assumption that he is bipolar, because that is something we don't know for sure. As for the rest, I won't be dragged in this discussion, as I don't know Axl personally and can't comment on his being an asshole.

  9. No, the truth is coming out about Axl. Most of the negative things said about Axl are NOT true. But Slash on the other hand, has many negative things that have flown under radar, to refresh your selective memory, remember this about Slash? A case of NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE involving Slash?

Look, I'm not trying to big time you here. I'm really not.

But your initial post in this thread states you've been a GNR fan for almost 18 whole months now. With all due respect, myself, and a lot of others around here have been in the game since 1988.

I bring this up only because it would take someone such as yourself to make this argument that Axl is a great guy and this is all just a misunderstanding.

Axl is a hell of a frontman, but a pretty nasty human being. Is there a story or two out there that might be inaccurate. Obviously. But there are FAR more stories out there perfectly accurate that show Axl to be petty, vindictive, hurtful, and with a temper not to be believed.

Well let me inform you about something, the truth doesn't have a shelf life, and never goes extinct. What I've stated about Axl is the truth, and I've PROVEN it. You being a fan longer doesn't make what you say more truthful. It just shows how ignorant some people are, that they have been "fans" for so long long, yet didn't know the simple facts, the truth about Axl, and let themselves be brainwashed for so long. The truth is, Axl is a SWEETHEART. Sure he has moments at times, mostly due to bipolar, but that isn't his general character.

From every celebrity/musician that has spoke of Axl in interviews, they say he is a great, nice human being. Chris Cornell said he is the nicest person he has ever met.

    From the Axl Rose chats:

I've not been diagnosed as being bipolar though many misconstrue statements I made earlier as alluding to such and unfortunately there's been an abundance of misguided or unqualified speculation of various events but I definitely can relate to needing my own space.

In my world all bi polar means (and not to offend or make light of those suffering from a genuine condition or involved with those who are) is that someone can try to take cheap uneducated shots or try to claim I'm bipolar thus justifying why they should get paid a financial settlement for whatever nonsense they're up to. Fortunately that hasn't proved successful.

  10. It really is an awful shame that relations between the two parties are the way that they are.

Not liking or wanting to associate with one another is one thing... but taking malicious action against the other in 2014? It's just so disappointing.

Do we not have a contact with Slash or his camp? Have we at least tried to reach out for a statement on the issue?

I think rocking the Slash camp's boat (even just by asking more questions) would be a bad move for the negotiations, in all honesty. The fact that we're all sitting here discussing it might sound trivial, but I have a funny feeling it's not going to help the situation.

Uh-oh, I hope we're not starting WW III by discussing Putin and the Ukraine situation in AG

Seriously, people on a forum merely discussing this won't be of any influence for sure ? I agree with you about the asking Slash though. Let's give them some time to work it out... Who knows...

  12. Some questions,

If Axl prevented Slash from releasing GnR songs on a live DVD............why wouldn't he expect Slash to return the favor? If that really happened, why would fans on here bash Slash for doing the same thing that Axl did?

My exact thoughts/questions as soon as I heard that Slash was holding up the release.
Slash has publicly insisted that he doesn't have any problem with Axl and doesn't want to get involved in any mindgames. Whereas Axl has been very clear that he hates Slash.

By deliberately dragging his heels in relation to Appetite For Democracy, Slash is contrasting his public stance on the GNR feud. He wants to be the "chill, over it" guy - yet he isn't.

This. They both obviously haven't moved on and keep trying to make each other's lives miserable. Pretty pathetic, if you ask me.

  13. Good on Slash. After the shit Axl has pulled over the years and the embarrassment he has made of GNR I'd be going out of my way to shit on him from a height. I hope Slash keeps this up and prevents Axl from releasing anything from this new band under the GNR name.

You reap what you sow. And Axl has sowed a lot of shit.

Well, I don't get this, I have to say.

If I'm a huge Slash fan, and I'm convinced Axl is the devil incarnate that took it all away from me, how am I better off if my guy sinks to his level?

Because they're exactly the same as the so-called Axlites ? Everything Slash does is cool, doesn't matter what.

  14. From MSL

Heard another thing the other day that I thought was interesting. We already knew that publishing issues had been holding up the Vegas DVD. That info came directly from somebody in Rock Fuel. We'd speculated that the problems may have been with some of the cover songs played during the show.

However, now I'm hearing that the publishing issue actually had to do with getting Slash and Duff to sign off on the release. So that was the big hold up. You can't sync the classic songs to video without their permission. It just sucks all around for GNR fans because the GNR songs were cut from the Velvet Revolver DVD, the second Velvet Revolver DVD wasn't even released in the US, Slash's DVD couldn't be released in the US, the GNR songs were cut from Slash's bonus DVD, and now GNR's Vegas DVD has been delayed repeatedly.

Hopefully we still get it at some point. I thought the trailer looked awesome.

So Crash Diet was right all along?

Thanks for looking it up. I knew I'd read something like that somewhere...

  15. So, really, what actual information do we have at this point as to why this is cancelled? Any?

Rockfuel: we cannot comment, except the matter is being resolved with reps of original members.. more to come

OK, so we have a vague quote about original members. And did they use the plural "members" or the singular? The less psychotic will of course notice that no one is yet mentioned by name - I am of course not denying that Slash could be involved - and nothing is said about why there are issues with original members. The more psychotic will make themselves obvious with their posts.

I copied and pasted it. So, plural, and quite vague, yes.
