Classic Rock: GUNS N’ ROSES FOCUSING ON WRITING NEW MATERIAL

SMG

Recommended Posts

If Axl says "jump like a bunny" to the band as a whole, and any of the members feel they have to do it for fear of being fired, that does not = a band.

But how does this relate to realities?

Because that is reality, no matter how much Jarmo or cupcakes like you try to spin it.

They are hired hands masquerading as a band.

They write songs for GN'R, they record songs for GN'R and they perform songs for GN'R...They are band members in GN'R.

They write songs...when Axl wants.

They record songs...when Axl wants.

They perform songs...when Axl wants.

In a real band, if 7 out of 8 members wanted to record new material, it would happen.

In this "band", 1 person out of 8 with absolute control dictates the entire operation and can prevent recording from happening.

What's with the Robin love? The guy sucks.

The guy's alright. But that's all he is. Been in two different HUGE NAME rock bands for over 18 years and has ONE songwriting credit released. Good song but ONE song. That's like being a one-hit wonder.

one hit wonder?

robin's the lead guitar player on TIL, SOD, TWAT, Chinese Democracy, IRS, Madagascar, and Better

one hit wonder? more like a 7 EPIC hit-makin' genius

Songwriting one-hit wonder, yes.

They write songs...when Axl wants.

No, they write all the time. Some songs might be chosen to end up as GN'R songs, some not. Axl probably has the final say here, like many strong frontmen in bands tend to do. Nothing dramatic in that. Mick Jagger probably has the ability to veto any songs for Rolling Stones, too. We also know that Axl is open for suggestions here and might even be swayed by other band members when it comes to album songs (i.e. This I Love).

They record songs...when Axl wants.

Uhm, is there anything dramatic about a band only recording new music when all band members agree? The fact that Axl must be onboard doesn't make the band less of a band. Do you think Rolling Stones would record new music meant for a RS album without Mick Jagger's consent?

They perform songs...when Axl wants.

Again, how can the band perform Guns N' Roses without the de facto frontman? And how can a band demand to go on tour without having this frontman agreeing? It's absurd.

In this "band", 1 person out of 8 with absolute control dictates the entire operation and can prevent recording from happening.

Yep, and again, it is not uncommon for a band to have one or more members with the ability to veto any decision, with this absolute control. Is Rolling Stones less of a band because Mick Jagger can control everything by refusing to let it happen? No, it isn't. You seem to belong to the naive group of people who thinks a band should consist of people with equal power and standing. It rarely is like that. Guns N' Roses is just an extreme example of a band with a strong, powerful frontman. But we have plenty of evidence of the composing being a team effort and that every band member is invited to bring his skills and abilities in and let it influence the final product -- just like we expect from a band.

What I find disconcerting is more the fact that the rest of the band appears to be completely ignorant in regards to future plans, signalling that many strategic decisions are taken without them being consulted. Hopefully I am wrong, but so far it doesn't look like that.

Isn't that how classic GnR generally worked? Or was slash lying when he accused axl of being a dictator?

what a shitty answer. everybody knows axl is the owner of the band and the guys will do what axl tells them to do. your excuses were just trying to make gnr look more like a normal band when band members and axl himself will admit it's not a normal band. good effort and good use of words, but you just gave a terrible answer. one things is to have a diva as frontman, the other is others members of the band having to do solo projects to get some of their music released.

Serious question.......do you say stuff like this, and all your other over-the-top Robin praise as a joke - or just to add some humor to the forum? Or are you really serious? Are you trying to make people laugh - or do you really believe all the things you say about him?

what else would he play on GnR tours? Sixx AM songs? get a grip of your fantasies Ashba also plays WTTJ, SCOM, Nighttrain, PC, Etc etc etc, and the songs mentioned by the original band sure get a hell of alot more enthusiasm during live shows than anything robin ever played lead on

Before you make an allegation, you might want to check your facts. If you did, you'd find that the credits on CD are wrong, Robin actually has SEVEN credits on the album according to ASCAP.

True, and he's written more with GN'R, and he contributed to the 2008 NIN album The Slip - although what exactly he did do is unclear

I expect the new Dj and Axl song to be a heavy dark rocker.

4 a dark rocker you need written lyrics

Watch Shame then scrawl down some words on the tube to the studio.

dj hasn't written lyrics yet

That's Axls job?

No one wants to hear a DJ Ashba Bumblefoot gn'r album. That's not even a discredit to them, we want to hear the rest of the Buckethead Robin Finck album.

exactly

Not, imo.

Actually, few people outside the hardcore fan base care if GnR releases an album at all by this point <_< Most don't even know who Finck, DJ, Ron or Buckethead are
