GivenToFly
I read this article. I haven't seen any of the movies but reading the descriptions the only thought that comes to mind is 'what the fuck?'. Can anybody explain? What kind of enjoyment does one get out of "an extreme close-up on a rusty pair of scissors cutting off a clitoris"? I can't read the link you've posted but I'm guessing it's about Lars Von Trier's Antichrist? It's actually an incredibly powerful movie to give it it's dues. Guest Len B'stard
Perhaps its not about enjoyment.I seen all of those except Gozu and Nekromantik, the latter i've been trying to find for ages. In fact i'm glad you posted this because i couldn't find a copy of it anywhere, was beginning to doubt it's existence, i think part of the problem was the person who reccomended it to me spelt the name wrong. Powerage5
Off the list, I've seen Cannibal Holocaust, Eraserhead, and The Exorcist. Cannibal Holocaust is the most fucked up movie I've seen, and I don't really care to see anything worse than that. The turtle scene is just terrible. Eraserhead is fucked up, but in more of a "I can't believe someone actually thought this shit up" kind of way. I've seen it a few times, and still don't have the slightest clue what it's about
SunnyDRE
Cool thread.Seen A Serbian Movie (It is on Youtube), it doesn't get "bad" until about the last 30 minutes.I'd also like to add La Bete (The Beast) to the list. I kinda want to see that movie but I heard it's incredibly boringOh it's fuckin' brilliant, it's the most unforgiving relentless movie i've ever seen in my life. Gordon Comstock
It took me a long time to work up the courage to watch Cannibal Holocaust, can't say I enjoyed or that I'd watch it again.Martyrs is another one I've seen, watched it a couple times. It's brutal, but it's one of those movies that leaves an impression that sticks with you for days afterwards.

izzygirl
I don't think The Exorcist was so distrubing to be in that list. I would add Irreversible too and some other such as The Human Centipede. You've seen Salo? I kinda want to see that movie but I heard it's incredibly boringOh it's fuckin' brilliant, it's the most unforgiving relentless movie i've ever seen in my life. It's so fucking like...bleak the whole way through, you expect some sort of let up or humanity or something...none comes. It's a boring movie and not very good. I wanna see some kind of metaphor with the Nazis/fascism and values going to shit or I don't know what but no. It just uses some of the most controversial sexual taboos to impact the audience. The only part of it I really think it was indeed amazing was the last part, when they are watching the kids through the window while...well, I don't wanna spoil it, but whoever saw the film knows. I expected more of it.
axlfan88
Well, Pasolini said that Salò wasn't really inspired by the fascist era. It was more about the present society.Presciently, Pasolini warned that television generated both demand and need, and existed primarily to create visual excrement. Specifically, Pasolini noted that globalized economic power and cultural domination were the products of televisual culture. Salò was his response to that.He described the coprophagia scenes in Salò as a comment on the processed food industry (industrial food=shit). He often described consumeristic culture as "unreal", as it had been imposed by economic power and had replaced Italy's traditional peasant culture, something that not even fascism had been able to do. In one interview, he said: "I hate with particular vehemency the current power, the power of 1975, which is a power that manipulates bodies in a horrible way; a manipulation that has nothing to envy to that performed by Himmler or Hitler."" I have done a film called Salo, in which one sees terrible things, which in reality, taken one at a time, would be pornography, taken out of context; but in context I believe that they are not, because the context is that of the commodification which power has made of bodies, that is the reduction of bodies to things. "In my opinion, Salò is a masterpiece, really a great movie. Edited August 12, 2013 by axlfan88

Lithium
I don't really see how people enjoy watching this stuff. I mean, it was cool when I was 13 or 14, but after a while I realized that it doesn't really demand a lot from the film-makers to create some sort of shock effect, and thus it stopped being fascinating to me.
