Georgy Zhukov
Ennio Morricone takes the top spot for me. I know most people know him for the whip crack and whistles for The Good, The Bad and the Ugly but he's done so many wonderful scores. This he should have won an Oscar for. More composers to come. wasted
everytime a movie comes on it's music by Marc Beltrami. and he does those tracks that follow every move of the movie, so he might be the pick for me.

izzygirl
Danny elfmanAs a fan of Tim Burton and The Simpsons I second this. Ennio Morricone takes the top spot for me. More composers to come. The Mission's soundtrack and Cinema Paradiso are my favourite ones. My favourite from the Dollar trilogy is this: Also Williams and Horner (especially because of Braveheart). Georgy Zhukov
Horner was great for Glory, Legends of the Fall and Braveheart. But a lot of his stuff was recycled.
Amir
Horner's been pretty crap recently. I can't remember his scores for Avatar or for The Amazing Spider-Man.
Graeme
Mark Knopfler's done a pretty good job on some Scottish films:Local Hero A Shot At Glory (note this is a totally different "Sons of Scotland" to the one from Braveheart) I don't think a film music post without mentioning Williams is fair, the man's an absolute genius, the Jurassic Park B theme just gets me in the gut and gives me goosebumps every single time. Snake-Pit
The BBC in the UK at the moment are doing a shout out to epic movie scores.Including Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries (used in Apocalypse Now); andthe Stealer's Stuck in the Middle With You ( used in Pulp Fiction)...http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2013/sound-of-cinema-vote.html... Nino Rota gotta shout out... I swear they done the Godfather theme, like, composed it or something. IDK, never heard of 8 ½ ‘Otto e Mezzo’. GivenToFly
Danny elfmanAs a fan of Tim Burton and The Simpsons I second this. My favorite movie soundtrack (for Midnight Run) is by Danny Elfman.
luciusfunk
John WilliamsFuck Danny Elfman. He didn't score any Simpsons episodes or the movie. He wrote the main theme, that's all. Hans Zimmer did the movie, Alf Clausen does the series.
emilyslovak
John Williams and James Horner are my two favorites. Someone above mentioned "Avatar"...that one is beautiful. It has some breathtaking moments.Hans Zimmer is very good, too, although familiar themes of his seem to come out in every score. James Newton Howard has a few good ones. Alexandre Desplat needs to be mentioned; his scores for the King's Speech and Benjamin Button have a very simple beauty to them. Nicola Piovani wrote a beautiful score for "Life is Beautiful." Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings soundtrack needs a mention here as well. Finally, Randy Newman wrote a pretty powerful score for "Seabiscuit."Ok, I love movie soundtracks a lot. A lot.
