Orsys
Outside of the world of narrow stereotypes where guys are 100% motivated by pursuit of mindless fucking and women are all delicate flowers who have to be pursued and coaxed into performing such a debasing act. In the real world where people are complicated, layered, shaped by experience, have varying perceptions of what is attractive and what is not... of course. What? I'm NOT a delicate flower? Are you freakin kidding me??I think it may often be a factor when you first meet and you're determining whether you could be interested in someone. But as relationships mature, some will settle into friendships, for sure. I have a couple of close male straight friends, At first we wondered about it, considered it. But the non-sexual aspects of the relationships kind of outlasted the initial attraction, and lasted as valued friendships. Or at least they haven't mentioned bangin' me lately. 45miles
One of my best friends in elementary school was a boy. He ended up asking me out a couple of years later, though, after puberty and all. I ended up saying no because it was just too weird. But one of closest college friends was also male. We never banged, I never wanted to, and he never hit on me, even though we spent a lot of time alone. He was my "surrogate brother" when I was missing my own sibs, and he introduced me to his mother as "the sister you never had for me." I think it helped that he was always crushing on someone else, though.Jess

Guest Len B'stard
Quite apart from anything else, most men can't afford to be like that, most people need the friend angle over a broad spectrum to then even get to finding one out of the many that they connect with. I'm sure there's a handful of drop dead gorgeous motherfuckers out there (or drop dead rich) that can be like 'can i fuck?...no?...here's money for a cab, see ya later!', to even encourage this sort of ideology in lads is to limit their pussy-getting potential hugely. If you can't be friends with a girl, unless you're some Johnny Depp Marlon Brando lookin' cool motherfucker you're gonna have trouble getting anywhere with girls in life, most average looking lads don't have that thing where they are SOOO fuckin' attractive to birds that they could cop a shag despite having a shit personality...and thats what not being able to be friends with a girl amounts to really, a bit of a shit personality, I mean you're literally saying that you can't hang with half the population of the world...and thats not including the members of the male species that you think are cunts. There are no broad universal truths relating to this shit where it's like guys are like this and girls are like this and therefore, logically, x, y and z and the likely outcomes in range of possible situations, people are just people and we're all different and we connect to what we identify with in people or what they offer us emotionally...and thats different every fuckin' time, no broad principle like that is ever the truth, it's contrary to the nature of the human condition, we are not stock pink or blue characters. Might be due to the fact that most of us are in relationships, so it's not even a thought, but there's no difference in feelings with my single friends either. Bono
Well my best freind right now is a girl. She's obviously an attractive girl but there is zero sexual attraction between us that I can tell. We hang out all the time and get along great. She's my best friend where I'm living now for sure so I say sure it could happen. My friends think it's weird cause they don't get why we're not actually dating or at least sleeping together but honestly as attractive as I know she is I'm not attracted to her if that makes sense. We just hang out. Nothing sexual ever even remotely happens. I don't know. I'd say it's pretty rare but it can happen I guess.I'm not sure I'd ever be BEST BEST friends with a girl though. My best life friends are all guys.Would any of you ever consider having someone of the opposite sex in your wedding party? Can you be married and have a best friend who's the opposite sex? I guess people will say sure of course but how does that affect the relationship with your partner? Edited May 31, 2014 by Bono

I guess people will say sure of course but how does that affect the relationship with your partner?I was the witness to my male friend's wedding. I was honored, of course, but I didn't think it was weird, because we've been through a lot together. His wife didn't mind and neither did my husband. They know we have a special connection. But I got a lot of strange comments afterwards of people saying: Why did he choose you ? Why did he pick a girl ? They didn't understand. I think it's like that with you and your female friend. It's often other people that don't understand it, make a big deal out of it and they ruin it, because I must admit I don't go out alone with that friend anymore. We used to go out for dinner or a drink lots, but now it's like we're all friends and we just go with our spouses. I miss that, just the two of us going out for a drink. Other people thinking there's more to it means it's more difficult to just go and have a drink with him. And by other people I mean other friends, not my husband or his wife, because they'd be okay with it. (Maybe not if we did it every week though.)

Her and I got for drinks and to movies and stuff together all the time. It's no big deal. But whenw e're out with my friends the second she leaves the table they get all weird. Last week for example my buddy says "Oh my god why aren't you fucking her?" and I just said "we're just friends man, there's nothing more to it than that". But what's weird too is although I wouldn't be jealous I'd be very protective if he or one of my friends tried to hook up with her and that in itself makes it weird. It's not jealousy it's just don't treat her liek some random hook up or I'll kick your ass kinda thing hahaAnother weird thing is I live ina small city(25 000 people) so you see a lot fo the same people out and I do think people who don't know me but recognize me think her and I are datng. So in a weird way there's the perception that I'm not single. Does that make sense?Definitely a guy and girl can be best friends but it comes with other variables that don't exist when your best friend is the same sex as you haha

We weren't single when we met and became best friends, but soon after we both were single, so people jumped to conclusions. I get the protective bit. My friend is not the easiest to get along with and I find myself often defending him. Can't stand it if others speak ill of him.Just let them think what they want, as long as you both now where you stand and you enjoy each other's company, it doesn't matter what sex you are.
