I really should've thought of this first:  1000 Island Dressing

I live pretty near one edge of the 1000 Islands.  Whereas Maple syrup is common in many places here.

Some love it, some hate it.  Lines of salad dressing companies sometime discontinue and re continue distribution of it even.

I like it a lot, even though I kinda forgot it exists for a bit.  It was made somewhere somewhat near here but there doesnt seem to be a regional pride for it and I dont see it used in restaurants or anything much.  No festivals in its honour I dont think.

isn't 1000 Island basically what McDonald's "secret sauce" is? :P never heard of some of the things they mention in any 1000 Island i have ever had...chopped nuts?? ranch dressing is the #1 salad dressing where i live. dang i even dip my fries in it sometimes! :D

Yeah, I very bare bones version seems to be the Big Mac sauce.  I wonder which cm first?  Ive never seen it with nuts in it either, but am used to it having finely diced pickles in it.

I love Ranch too!

i think 1000 Island came first. there is a place called Bob's Big Boys that has a similar sauce but the burger is wayyyyyy better than Mickey D's :P

And I think different places in the South have different BBQ sauces, is that right?

Yep. It's like Bubba Gump with shrimp. We got hot bbq . Blazin hot bbq. Thick bbq. Sweet bbq. Honey bbq. Vinegar bbq. Mustard bbq.

Well the health inspectors were involved

To be fair if I'd've ever worked in an eatery as a youngster I probably would've had a go for special customers

On a side note, to make life more difficult for the natives, gravy don't fuckin' count, thats just pissed people picking up one thing and adding it to another, that ain't a dedicated condiment

I saw the thread and thought:  What an awesome idea for a thread!  Then I noticed I'd started it... what can I say, I know what I like :)

As i type Im making a jalapeño bacon popper dip.  Im making some breaded poppers and some of the it into dip with bacon.  Definitely not a signature here, but it should be!

Making lots of Chimichuri, pesto and marinara as the harvest comes in too.  Im near an Italian neighbourhood so the pesto and marinara is regional too, so to speak.
