Gibson Guitars Tell Funko POP to Stop the Music

Recommended Posts

Quote

Funko, the manufacturer of the popular vinyl toy line Funko POP, is being sued by guitar manufacturer Gibson over what they see as the unauthorised use of their guitars designs on POPs of rock stars. Gibson has trademarked the shapes of a number of guitars. They are not alone in this, Fender does the same. And it is the use of those shapes, such as the below, to which Gibson objects. The claim names specific toys, based on the likenesses  Slash, Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley, Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield having such guitars as part of their Popness. But it also states that has the opportunity to get a license from Gibson…

Those who haven't got Slash's or Duff's Pop! might need to hurry.. I assume will be vaulted soon.

Seriously? They are that miffed that Funko decided not to use their licensing?  Headstock and body are no where close to Gibson’s contours. They gonna sue ESP and everyone else who does LP style guitars? Those are much closer and create more confusion than a generic guitar shape on a toy

Guess they have to get money anyway they can. Probably doesn't help that kids now are not in to playing or listening to rock the way most of us were when we were growing up. The ones that are, probably aren't starting out with $5,000 guitars. Henry also treats workers like shit. I have known a few people who have worked for Gibson in Nashville and hated it. Check out the glassdoor reviews lol
