I think that those who lived in Europe in the 1940's will disagree. That's why these folks are still chilling outside in groups.

    They survived the Nazis.

What a stupid saying. Not many of those left. And those who really remember are mostly not chilling.

not wishing this on anyone, but it's ironic that BJ is one of the few leading politicians who implemented "herd immunity" at the start of the epidemy in the UK, and now he's struggling with this disease.

BJ is a victim, just like any ordinary citizen who gets this virus and needs to be admitted to intensive care, or worse. Hope he gets well, but he being the prime minister is of colossal symbolic importance to politicians everywhere.

I hope, inadequate politicians / presidents all over the world (we know who they are), will take this example as a "wake up and smell the coffee moment" NOT to take this virus lightly.

it is not "like the flu", its not "only marginally more deadly than the flu", and young people as well as middle age or older people can all die from this.

it's now too late to act though. you can't stop this machinery of nature that has been put in motion. the dice are thrown, and the results are coming in. Day after day.

    stay safe, everyone

What exactly does it change though? It's been said from the beginning that people with underlying medical conditions are more likely to be severly affected by this Virus and obviously also younger people can have those.

Anyway, watched the local Dallas news today. People have been putting white ribbons and bows around their trees or outside their homes or apartments in support of all the medical workers who are on the front line of defense against the virus.

I made a bow out of a white sheet. People seem to be doing this around my neighborhood.

How about all of you begin to do this and maybe it'll go around the world as a hopeful sign for everyone?

Also you can make homemade masks out of any cotton material around your house. Just make a big enough strip to cover your nose and mouth and put a rubber band on each end. Just remember to wash them after you use them outside and wash your hands and use santizer.

I get the sentiment, but really, do you need bows out of sheets to get hope or show support?! Seems like an irrational waste of effort to me. Talk to other people instead. Have fun. Don't do something that at the end of the day really helps no one.

As for the masks… those are kinda useless too, as they don't protect you and to be safe and protect yourself, you still should keep the distance and once you do that, they are useless to protect anyone else. It seems more of an alibi move to me. To make people "feel" more safe.

So stop worrying. Nothing good comes over being stressed and afraid. In fact, it just fucks up your immune system making you more prone to diseases. And it reduces your quality of life. And it shouldn't. There is enough things that shields the beauty of life from us, let's not add one more.

Yeah. Even Axl said over 30 years ago:

And I don't worry about nothing, no
Because worrying's a waste of my fucking time

We've also been singing that a Million times. So now is the time to heed to it. ;)

I agree with you on that one. It annoys me when they say that since it's a new virus. I yell at the tv saying if you're an expert why can't you stop it or know what the fuck is going on?

My friend texted me and said NYC's cases dropped a bit. That's great news. I hope she's right.

After watching the news yesterday telling us how many more people will get the virus in the next two weeks and many more people will die, I couldn't sleep at all last night. I feel like I can jump out of my skin at any moment.

I am taking a day off of the news today. Everyone I know is well, so I'm going with that.

Stay inside and stay well guys!

Why get so worked up about that shit? There is nothing you can do anyway. Worrying and getting upset won't change a thing. Whatever happens happens. Keep calm, think positive and ride it out. If it gets bad, it gets bad without you worrying and getting worked up and you've wasted the last time you could feel somewhat good. If it doesn't get all that bad, then all the worrying and getting worked up about it, was all for nothing and just made your time miserable.

Meanwhile, everyday I check the news and no good news. They say another month or two, I say longer than that. It's not just about America. The whole worlds needs to get well. We all are one planet and we are all connected in one way or another. I'm grateful to come on this message board and talk to all of you. It helps for a bit.

Yeah. And at least here you can talk without cunts getting all emotional and blocking you because you said something she don't want to hear and because clearly doesn't have a clue.

A women wearing a mask and gloves just walked into me as I distanced by walking onto the middle of the road to avoid her. She had to do a 90 degree turn and rush to make this happen. But her car was nearby so just 'fuck me' I guess. WTF is that?!?! When I flipped her off she looked deeply offended, too. :lol:

But straight couples with young children are the worst for feeling entitled to not do their 50/50 part in distancing. Im gonna start carrying a hockey stick and next family that walks directly at me, Dads getting a tap in the five-hole... like from a safe distance. :headbang::lol:

Yeah. It's also so funny (not) when I'm riding my bike on that pathway, which is probably 1,5 m to 2 m wide and the people who walked together can not both stand on one side, so I can pass on the far other. No, one of them stands somewhat to one side, while the other stands somewhat on the other side, so I have to pass in the middle, making it impossible to keep the suggested distance.

I simply said I was "surprised" that people would be making that choice/priority right now. So Im a little bit at a loss as to why you first thought that was me calling for an end to traveling (lol) and now have further issues with my comment. But okay...

The possibilities you laid out are not the only possibilities. There is more than a little talk of possibly another outbreak in fall, should we get this one under control, for instance. But also, to part with cash at this moment in history for a trip that likely will not take place is also at odds with what I find to be prudent. Therefore I personally find it "surprising." The conversation I was having was in reference to people having been stranded and the potential impact that has on consumer choices, dont forget. Peace :)

And I'm surprised why one would take issue with making plans. Isn't it the best Thing right now to look forward to a time when things will be better? Think positive and don't lose all hope. I'm also looking forward to travelling again. And like I said, if there is another outbreak/shitshow in the fall, things will get cancelled anway and you get your money back (unless they have changed the fine print for travel that is booked right now). And well, some people simply do have some savings, so they can spend money for some travel at the end of the year.

    No??

So what is wrong with booking for the end of the year. Either things are somewhat back to normal and you got cheap travel or it's the same shitshow and things get cancelled.

About leisure travel... . A goal I have is to never be surprised by people's decisions or the the human condition. But still, sometimes Im surprised. I wish them all the best.

Why? Do you suggest that all travel is banned until all eternity?

I'm sure they still had more than most of us. If not in cash, then certainly in assets. So what's the point of this thread?

It’s both amazing and unsurprising to watch the UK do a complete 180 on its original strategy to manage the outbreak.

Wasn’t the approach to not bother with containment or social distancing in the hopes of creating a large enough herd immunity?

I assume the politics, regardless of the science, became untenable with mounting COVID-19 related deaths.  I wonder if this switch in strategy will result in a bigger spike early on and larger spikes later on with success waves of outbreaks as society starts up again.

Seems like it was a waste of two weeks.

Well, I guess the strategy to not bother doing anything is a hard strategy to keep up when around the world everyone is advising to shut everything down and when people are dying.

Why are people doing this shit? Do they not have any sense of self-awareness? Like "Maybe we're being complete morons" of course you look like a tool buying 500 cans of Mountain Dew - you'd look like a tool buying 500 cans of anything! See if everyone just bought what they normally buy, there would be no problems. I can't honestly fathom these people's thought processes.

Yeah. And really, when they really absolutely need 500 cans of that shit (seriously, who drinks that? It's not even that good), why didn't they just go in seperatly and bought seperatly. Nobody would have said anything, although the partnerlook, both in cloths and body type, would give them away. But I guess they would have to have some selfawareness and some sense of what is going on, to be that smart.

I am not the norm, but isn't home delivery quite well-established by now? Regardless, even in countries where it isn't, stockpiling is not advisable. It is rarely needed (as long as supply lines and production is intact, stores will not run out of stuff), and in those cases where there is a limited supply you risk some people not getting what they need (for instance when people stockpile paracetamol, resulting in some people having too much and some too little). Solidarity means to not hog stuff.

I don't know. I don't think it is. It definitely isn't when you're fully able-bodied to get your shit on your own. Yeah, getting 500 rolls of toilet papers sucks, but getting 3 10 packs is totally okay. Over here they have an offer every couple of weeks, where you get 3 10 packs for the price of 2. So that's what I'm always doing. Today I only got 1 10 pack though, as I was running low. And when everyone is stocking up in their usual amount at the same time, in order to minimise trips to the shop, they are out soon. So it's not just senseless stockpiling. But whatever. It's not an issue here. We got plenty of toilet paper.

  17. 1 hour ago, SoulMonster said:

Not an excuse where I live, we have home delivery.

Right. Because you are the norm for how it has to be? It's easier to buy your shit yourself than relying on somebody to deliver it to you.

  18. 5 hours ago, SoulMonster said:

Or they are just stupid cretins who try to hoard all the shit paper for themselves.

Or they just try to limit the times they have to run to the store, which makes sense when you try to isolate yourself. All this judging without really knowing is a bit stupid.

Speaking for myself, Ive taken to structuring my news reading/listening time regarding the virus. I feel like this helps reduce anxiety.

My City and Province both make their own daily updates, so Im sure to consume some version of them each morning. I keep up to date on when there will be major announcements from others in Fed, including the PM. So I listen to or watch those press conferences. Then I read that days "Covid-19 around the world today" and any other noteworthy updates in a few minutes. Trying to keep all of that routine to no more than 30 minute in total. The last daily update is at 10:30am so thats usually the cut off for the day.

Beyond that, as a public radio junkie, if the subject does come up with out me planning to hear about the Virus, I try to discern if I should turn it off. Luckily for me, the news I consume is honest, avoiding hysterics and propagandizing. So sometimes getting further info randomly is totally cool.

Like I say, thats just me. But Im aware I need to do more for myself as I had no appetite and didnt eat at all yesterday. So far only ate once today and its almost supper.

Comedy Bang Bang is a guaranteed cure for virus anxiety, btw. :headbang:

Good for you. Because reading too much stuff about it, just makes you go crazy. I've been catching myself lately, paying way too much attention to all of this, just because of the stuff I've been reading. I mean, I see 2 people walking together and in my mind I go 'Are you crazy? How can you do that?', which really is ridiculous. All your senses are heightened when you read too much of that stuff and you lose all perspective.

yeah, in belgium they only do consult via telephone as a reaction to the epidemy. it's probably for the best.

if you have mild symptoms, like me, you stay home 7 days. If you have fever too, you're urged to go to the hospital.

I just checked my temperature, and no fever luckily. God I hope it stays this way. but this cough, it's a dry tickling cough and it sucks

I get the feeling you are a bit paranoid. You have been since you started posting about it. Just relax and you will be fine.
