You realize I don’t work for them right

They’ve played a loadagigs in England in the last 10 years. Good few in Ireland also.

And, the lucky dip tickets for their gigs, makes it a lot easier to afford....

Worry not about hotel rooms and other such comforts. Serious gig going is like blitzkrieg warfare. Get into the city, get a cheap ticket, get the shirt, back to the airport, and get the first flight out. Lot easier do it in Europe with Ryanair, but plenty of tactics and logistics go into flying with them fuckers.
I once hitchhiked from Ireland to London for the Sex Pistols gig in 96... Some dedication and lunacy is required to get to gigs at times

    I figure.

Yeah, but not everyone lives in the UK. I'd like to go to a concert by car. I'm not at the point for flying somewhere to see the Stones. Only going for special occasions by plane. I did the 24 hours fly in/fly out without baggage and hotel to see Axl/DC in London (my third and last show). Got there at 10:30, went straight to the stadium, went to the band hotel after the show and back to the airport at 4 am for a 7am flight. And of course from Boston to Chicago and back to see GNR. Got there at 5 pm, did a quick sightseeing of Chicago, went to the show, some more nightsightseeing of Chicago after the Show (it was freezing cold, thank god for 24 hours Starbucks) and back to the airport for a flight back to Boston at 8am.

Since I had a affordable, but eventutally crappy ticket the last time the Stones were here, I finally wanna try lucky dip, even if that means I have to buy 2 tickets, but the last time the lucky dips really were the expensive ones close to the stage.

Stones did maybe 30 dates in Europe in 2017 & 2018. Looks like it’s the states getting the 2 years in a row now. I’m happy to not have to travel for a stones show for the first time in 13 years....

That's 2 years ago. At that age that can decide between life and death. And what Len Cunt said.

Script pages from Duel of the Fates are leaking online now. The dialogue and pacing is terrible. I’m starting to see again why this version got scrapped (some cool stuff with Finn and R2, tho!). Also, this version of the movie takes place “nine or ten years” after Last Jedi, which is too big of a time jump, imo.

scroll down here for twitter links to the screenshots: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Episode-IX-was-to-be-directed-by-Colin-Trevorrow-DUEL-OF-THE-FATES-RIP/id/18137/page/6

Can't be worse than what we got. The artwork looks great.

    From the IORR news today:

The Rolling Stones are working on a tour in North America lasting from May to July 2020, rumoured to be announced next week. Cities rumoured for shows are San Diego, St. Louis, Atlanta, Cleveland, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Baltimore, Nashville, Charlotte, Tampa and Atlanta, all USA, and Vancouver Canada.

Thank fuck for the Vancouver show, I’m not traveling on this leg....

Why the fucking states again? Time for another european tour.

It’s a way to gain extra revenue on top of the band’s fees. Take the difference between face value and the secondary market price. A cut goes to the band, a cut goes to the promoter, the scalper (which is Ticketmaster), etc..

It’s all a racket. Release some tickets, say it’s sold out and then sell some directly to scalpers to help set their market and collect on the difference. Then they release some more and repeat the process.

Now sometimes it’s necessary. Especially if the band’s fees are high. The promoter needs to dip into the scalping market to help make the show more profitable and they’ll negotiate the band’s cut down/or even out of the equation. They’ll do this and sometimes the artist isn’t even aware. They’re getting paid, who cares.

Now if the band didn’t want this to happen, they’d have to ask for less $.....which for many artists won’t happen. So on it goes.

You see a lot of the personalized tickets with smaller shows.

Yeah. At the end of the day it's all a dirty business and everyone is looking for their own best interest exploiting the fan. And the fan is stupid enough to pay whatever is asked.

  6. 1 hour ago, guitarpatch said:

Yeah. They knew what they were doing. Don’t be fooled if they say they didn’t know this was going on. It’s been a common practice for a lot of artists

They hate to see tickets on the secondary market going for high prices. Not because fans are getting ripped off, but because they aren’t getting a cut of that revenue and more importantly, that’s what they should be charging.

So they sell a certain amount of tickets directly to scalpers and take a percentage. They do this to avoid getting blowback from the fans if they had just listed tickets at the true market value. No one wants to see $300 balcony tickets set as the initial price, but for some reason it’s ok if the demand pushes the secondary market to that point.

We’re moving closer to just setting up live bidding for in demand shows. Otherwise, if artists want to set low prices for their fans, they can not only do that, but they can also take extreme measures to make sure there are no secondary tickets available

Personalized tickets and that shit would stop then and there. But really, all of them give a shit about the fan. They only cry about lost revenue/someone else making the money that should be theirs.

I weren't talking about Freddie writing either, I had no idea he wrote that until you told me, I was saying they are the words to a song he sings, same with Elvis, he doesn't get credit for writing them but they are his songs inasmuch as his versions that he sings.  But if he wrote them that makes it worse

Without Elvises interpretations you wouldn't have boys from England and Zanzibar taking on a form of black American music in the first place.  And I don't think not writing songs puts you lower on the totem pole, especially not in rock n roll, which you can't look at like you're talking about painting or poetry, its something you perform, without the performer you have nothing.

I probably shouldn't even engage in discussions here because its unfair, I see very little merit in Queen due to my personal taste, discussions like this you'll probably get more of value out of someone like @PatrickS77 who seems to appreciate both to some degree.

I appreciate Queen more, as they weren't just singers of songs (even though Freddie would put it that way ;)), they also created those songs. But I also appreciate Elvis for what it's worth. In certain ways I do think he is overrated, as he only performed and interpreted songs and (took and appropriated a form of music that was created by someone else) that does rank you lower than someone creating his own songs (and thus didn't pay too much attention to him for many years), but as a singer, performer and interpretator he was great and that can't be denied.

On the count of shite lyrics, I rest my case

Makes all sense in the context of "Don't stop me now", for which you can also rest your case on the count of being one of their greatest songs.

But the point really is, that they created so many great songs that there should be something for everyone.

I have zero regard for Queen and Freddie Mercury, I think they are the most overhyped band ever.  Freddie sang well, yes, in the sense of hitting the notes, depth etc but...he just didn't have an actual nice or interesting voice that sounded good to my ears, does that make sense?  There's loads of people that sing well, very well, exceptionally even...but if there's nothing to the voice, nothing behind it, nothing that draws you in then its just a big nothing to me.  Also, their songs were shite.  Also, the lyrics were terrible.  Musicianship you gotta give em their dues to a point but...the whole image was just a load of effette nonsense.  And I have nothing against effete, when its done well but...c'mon, a burly mustacioed poofter trying to 'bring ballet to the masses', give me a fuckin' break.

Disagree with every word. Songs are great, music is great and Freddie was great. There is something seriously wrong with people, who can't appreciate Queen.

Probably the greatest song he's ever done.

Speaking of Elvis live there is another great CD from his New York shows in '72:

and another cool 4 disc boxset featuring several Vegas shows from over the years (also includes some cuts from '56, but I prefer the '69/70's recordings):

Yeah, what's to say. It's Patrick Stewart back as Picard. One of the all time great tv characters.

The only real negative I can say given it was an opening episode to set things up, is it's paced like a Netflix series that was dropped in 1 day...except Amazon Prime or CBS is releasing this 1 episode at a time. It really would have been great if the whole season dropped at once.

It's a little odd too, especially in this format to go back to 45 minute episodes. I've been used to all my favourite shows being close to an hr or more for the last decade now.

Yeah. That's why, after seeing the first episode, I will wait until all episodes are out and watch them back to back. More enjoyment that way. So far the first episode hasn't really won me over. I could leave it or take it at this point.

I suppose it is because the drummer is the easiest person to eradicate when the other greedy buggers want to increase their fortune. Even if they have him on a salary, you'd have to pay a Kramer, a Criss or a Ward more than you would have to pay a Johnny Schmuck who has been roped in.

Well. Apparently they have to pay him either way, whether he's performing or not, as he is a 20% shareholder.

No, it was later than that. I saw him with them in June. I think it was right before they took off for the east coast shows in July sometime or even August.

Oh, well. So he played 1 east coast show in july. But that was it.

Are you kidding me? They've been in a band with the guy for almost 50 years and they hire a security guard to tell him he's not welcome? Is this a joke?

Certainly looks like it. Like a staged play with bad actors.

  14. 16 hours ago, rocknroll41 said:

Yeah the band claims he couldn’t play well anymore after the injury, but Joey himself claims this isn’t true, from what I gather.

Yeah, all the members have sustained injuries time and time again for the last ten years, mostly due to their age now. That being said, drumming is usually the hardest thing to maintain once you get older, hence why drummers are usually the first to either be fired (like Black Sabbath) or retire (like Rush).

Sounds like the current drummer is still John Douglas, who has also been their drum tech for a long time now, I recently read.

i think the Grammys invited them cause this year is the band’s 50th anniversary.

They invited them, because they still are one of the greatest rock bands.

Thanks for the info. Now I know the name of the guy who has been subbing for him: John Douglas. Looks like he has been buddies with Aerosmith long before he started subbing for Joey on stage last year too. From what I’ve gathered, he has painted personal portraits for Steven Tyler himself, among other things. Wouldn’t surprise me if the band continues to just use him for Grammys, remaining Vegas shows, euro tour, etc.

So does anyone know when Joey’s last show with the band was, exactly?

April 2019. The beginning of the residency.

Yeah I’m really confused. Apparently Joey did have to sit out some dates last fall, I’m reading, and they had a substitute for those shows, but I can’t find any info on who that substitute drummer even was.

Are there any Aerosmith experts on here who can shed some light please?

His drum tech subbed for him and Joey actually paid him. He had to sit out for some injury and never was let back in.

That's kind of the issue here, Kramer can't collect his paycheck.

Apparently that is not the issue. He is collecting the paychecks. He is paying for the substitute drummer. But Joey wants to get back to his daytime job. He is not ready to retire yet.

Nothing new... as people they have never really seemed to get along even from the beginning. It's impressive that they have been together for so long.

Yes. And given the fact that they are one of the rare bands that still has all original members, expect U2, I can't recall any other band, it's even more sad.

I like Billie Eilish.... (runs and ducks for cover!).

Oh, well. You also like the new Star Wars. :P Since I didn't know too much about her and hearing this news, I listened to some songs. Don't quite know whether I like it. It's different-ish, but then again, all she does is kinda same-ish. So I guess that grows old soon. Still shudder though that this brat really is the only option for a Bond song. Does she even know James Bond? ;)
