  1. Gilby's playing has that less is more charm to it and it's tasteful with a warm tone. he can play lead too, but he is a true rhythm player at heart. Richard has a lot of control on the instrument but he's more of a lead player
  2. do promoters really give a shit about new material? idk. what I'm mainly driving at is that as far as speculation goes, I think Axl cares very much about the legacy of Gn'R and that is naturally tied to the Gn'R catalog. with Slash and Duff back in the band, he will need to present at least some new material that will be a part of the meat of a potential final Gn'R album, and I think Axl got the time to make that a reality, if he's still interested. with Slash and Duff it can be done imo. what's stopping Axl from releasing an album with some reworked 90's ideas and new material 8 years from now? there is a lot that can be done in a studio with that kind of time. just thoughts.
  3. I think Plant always was honest enough to express mostly his real opinions and Prince was a musical genius. I imagine if you connect with the music like Plant did with Prince's, it's easy to recognize and admit the sheer level of talent that someone like Prince had. it's like B.B. King saying how the only other guitar player that made him sweat was Peter Green cause of his tone or some shit I'm rambling but I hope you get the idea.
  4. imagine your surprise if Axl decides to take his time and release a studio album of original material years from now. stranger things have happened.
  5. I think Kurt had another Nirvana album in him, just based on this tune. such powerful shit.
  6. there was Jimi, Prince, and MJ as far as I'm concerned. even just the enterntainment vallue of it was unmatched in my book. (maybe Page came close with Zeppelin)
  7. let's face it, no Axl, no Gn'R, no Slash, no Gn'R, not really. I love Izzy and I love Duff and Steven, but the essential ingredients are Axl and Slash if it's gonna be Gn'R imho.
  8. I didn't feel like you were attacking, you seem like a very polite poster which I appreciate, so I felt comfortable discussing this topic with you. It's just music as far as I'm concerned.
  9. yes, it's shocking that Prince was a diva
  10. they don't like it cause they're not you, they are other people. what people like is determined by so many factors. not every listener that is not into Prince is not into Prince for the same reason. what is soothing to you in Prince's natural singing voice is annoying to someone else. some people are not into really popular shit like pizza, sex, and music (any genre) for the reason I've specified. I don't see it as a problem, it's just listeners that are not compatible with this type of music, it doesn't turn them on emotionally. doesn't mean there is any issues with the music itself or the listener. I'm also a Prince fan and this is an appreciation thread, so my intention is not to point out the flaws, just to explain why I think some of his music is not easily accessible.
  11. extremely versatile, I don't get why you think I said that, but anyway: my point is that you can like the singing voice of one raspy, or screechy singer and dislike another raspy or screechy singer cause there are many qualities to a singer's voice so for example you can be into Axl's voice but not into Prince's voice. always thought Prince was a fantastic singer and personally I don't find anything annoying about his voice but I understand how many would find it not pleasing to the ear just like a lot of people find Axl's singing voice nowdays and in his peak off putting.
  12. just joining in on the fun cause it's an interesting thread. I think I get what you meant, but what I was kinda trying to highlight is that yes, Axl's voice is "screechy"/"scratchy" but that's hardly all there is to Axl's singing voice, it's quite versatile, there are a lot of other qualities to his voice to like or dislike and the combination of the screech with other qualities of Prince's voice are a turn off for some people and I don't find it surprising cause it's also how it sounds to the listener as a whole imo.
  13. it's just one factor though,. Prince and Axl sound very different with a different vocal timbre. what is similar is that both singers could sing in a very deep voice but also extremely high notes. Prince was always considered to be a great singer. (among other things) in general, I think Prince was a musical genius, but especially his music is not for everyone. I know personally it took me a long time to connect to his music beyond the hits and a few other tunes I related to. seems to be an acquired taste for many. the many styles of his music and over the top personality seems to be a turn off for a lot of people as well. personally, I really like a lot of his music/albums and a lot of it doesn't do much for me, but I consider myself a fan of his music. there wasn't anyhing he couldn't do really, but if you don't relate to his style, you don't.
  14. nicknamed "shank" by Axl, Bumble once pulled a knife on a dude that refused to pay Bumble what he was owed for his work. When the bullying by Tommy and I guess maybe some of the other guys to a lesser extent got silly, Bumble made some threats that it could turn violent if they didn't stop giving him shit and then I think they stopped giving him shit.
  15. ah I wasn't sure which specific part you meant. personally I like that part but Atlas is one of my favorites from the locker leaks. I think there's probably a really strong version of the second half of Chinese in Axl's hard drives and some of the tunes that were officially released post reunion. just cause you've mentioned it, I think the strongest tracks from the leaks/official releases with full or close to full vocals are Atlas, SOG, HS, and Monsters. I'm really fond of The General, I just don't think it's as strong as those 4 tracks. Absurd and Perhaps are also cool imo, but I prefer the live versions of Absurd. I wonder if Axl is interested in Slash and Duff rerecording more Chinese era tunes for release and if Monsters was the last tune that was worked on by Slash and Duff as in there's nothing else we haven't heard from Chinese era with Slash and Duff contributions.
  16. it worked sometimes, many other times it didn't work. depends on the band. in most bands there are always members you can't replace. I think that in Gn'R for example,. you can't replace Axl and it was a failed attempt to replace Slash if the goal was to experience success that could have been as big with Slash in the band or create new Gn'R music. when you bring too much musical personality to the table and your image/sound are unique, it's almost impossible to do it imo. a good example is Iron Maiden. once they found a guy like Bruce which was a perfect fit for what they were trying to do, replacing him was not easy when he bailed and eventually they failed in replacing him properly until Bruce came back. replacing Axl would have turned Gn'R to a different band that is not Gn'R at all, kinda like VR sounded like,
  17. Melissa seems like a very kind person and a real friend to Axl. it's cool to see that band members get along like this. happy birthday to the mad ginger bastard. may he live long and dress sharp.
  18. nothing and nothing. what you said was just a fact. some people sometimes confuse stating a fact with "defending" Axl and his horrible crime of not releasing more music, so when you mention that Gn'R just released recently 2 songs maybe they see it as an attack of their butthurt about Axl's choices.
  19. not really to my ears. a lot of singing parts with a lot of power and a few high pitched screams as well plus the last chorus until the song ends are not "talk singing" imo.
  20. it's not a Gn'R show without Axl singing most of it. It's not like Axl got that option, even with Melissa in the band. people pay for a ticket mostly cause they want to hear Axl sing and Slash play his guitar. in The Conspirators it's possible to let Todd help out when Myles needs it. Slash is the main attraction to most Conspirators fans I think. anyway, for most of the show Myles was fine. He's not 20 years old anymore, and he seems to do everything he can to preserve his voice, still seems like a fun show imo.
  21. I don't consider Chinese Democracy as a Gn'R album. I think most Gn'R fans, at least hardcore Gn'R fans, consider AFD to be the best Gn'R album, but maybe cause Chinese was released under the name Gn'R, it's possible that new fans to Gn'R who discovers AFD/Lies/Illusions would also discover and decide to check out Chinese. "stand the test of time" was used by me more to express what I think Axl's goal was with Chinese, as in not be disposable and really taking the time and making the effort to come up with something that you can go back to. I didn't mean 500 plus years from now, but it's an interesting question. nowdays, in modern times, we still listen to music that is hundreds of years old, I know I do and a lot of people do, even if most people probably don't. technology has made it very easy for algorithms to make quick suggestions that are based on what you like so you can go back in time now musically as a listener without much if any effort so who knows? I can see AFD as one of the albums that could be remembered for a long time. Master Of Puppets for example, was selected to be preserved in the national recording registry by the library of congress. about Beyonce, I don't think the performer, especially in the pop genre, must write their own materiel for their album to be considered great, but maybe the award should be given to the people who made that happen, just as much if not more compared to the performer. it's an award for a product that was more the work of a big team so when you lump in that category other artists that actually do write and compose the material or all of it, the meaning of the award kinda loses its meaning imho.
  22. just my opinion, but I don't think the same can be said about Chinese Democracy. you don't tinker with the same material for years and release it after a decade for it not to stand the test of time, artistically, not commercially speaking at least. from various music sites with communities the opinion seems to be, even with non Gn'R fans and those who dislike Axl that Chinese is a good to great record and I still personally listen to it as well. Beyonce doesn't even write her own material for the most part. she has a team of writers. her talents lie in her singing and dancing ability primarily so even if she won album of the year, is it really a win if she didn't actually wrote the lyrics/composed the music.
  23. the band sounds great, Bent To Fly was great and Rocket Man is a fine cover imo. Slash on the pedal steel. very talented even if I prefer him on guitar.
